This is for me, the most interesting Delboy series yet. Thank you.
My God that was satisfying to watch. Nothing quite like pulling off the protective tape to see all the end product unravel before your eyes. mmm
Excellent camera work and editing as always my friend. Top notch.
lots of love to Penny. Take care mate, Dai
Thank you Chef, that's very kind of you...! Easy stuff really, as I've said before, I'd swop all my bike skills for half of yours... specially those insane knife skills! Take care and have a wonderful week, guard the family and keep safe, love D&Pxx
Delboy's Garage that’s funny because in my eyes, you’re the man with the skills.
Knife skills are simple muscle memory, whereas your knowledge and experience comes from years of tinkering, research, learning, and trial and error.
Take care
Awesome And Beautiful Work 👏👏👏 You Del & Penny Ride Safely And Stay Healthy And Have A Wonderful Week.
Thank you Paul, great to hear from you Sir, wishing you the very same, let's hope we can all get back to normal before the summer's out, ride safe, D&Px
I put that paint can in warm water between coats , or just before I use it , you made a great job of that .
Great job that few amongst us would ever bother trying. The bikes next owner would be getting a bonus from this job, securing the next few decades. Onya bro.
Thanks Volvi, good to hear from you brother.. yeah, while its up on the lift and the knackered old exhaust is off, why not clean up the 20 years of decay.. Have a good week mate... Del.
Really enjoyed this one, above my skill set but I enjoy watching an expert like you make these repairs/refurbishments look easy.
Glad you enjoyed it Davie!
When cleaning a nut, run it down a bolt. Makes it far easier to hold and apply pressure.
Great idea!
'Can't recommend Tough Black enough, fantastic product.
Hi Del, I was surprised just how bad that engine was, filthy thing. Look much better now and no doubt even better once the pain has cured. Loving the idea with the exhaust. Good luck my friend.
Hey Andy, good to hear from you, thanks for your kind words mate, it wasn't hard to make an improvement on that aye? Thankfully the rest of it isn't nearly so bad (well, the wheels are, but can deal with that!).
Looking good Del. Those are the type of hours people will look right past when they check out this bike, but it's very satisfying when its all done. I also hope you put some anti seize compound on those exhaust studs. Ya never know if you'll need it. Ride safe, stay well.
Hi Joe, always great to hear from you... I have your tiny cocktail glass video still to watch (silly busy week!)... the studs are only thrown in with fingers for now (for the main reason that I'll know where to find them in the future!)... but will double nut them and torque them in, was thinking of using Wurth AL1100, which is an alu-ease or alu-slip, and apparently more appropriate than copper between steel and aluminium, and it has the same melting point as copper. Take care and have a fabulous week, watch out for those spiders!
If your gonna tig weld stainless I highly recommend using a gas lens kit even the cheap eBay kits are fine, but if you really wanna make a good job the fupa12 is what you need, it’ll change your welding all together and get you the pretty finish you see on all the expensive stuff
Thanks for the heads up mate, I'll add it to the wish list!
Wow what a difference! Super job sir! Can't wait to see what you do with the exhaust.
Don't worry about Stainless bolts in Aluminium. Use Tef Gel or something similar. Just uploaded a video all about it. Take a look. 🏴🏍️
Brilliant video. I intend on doing this with my 04 Bonneville. You have saved me a lot of money.
Danm that is a lot of work. The dental thing didn't bother me ,I've had dentures for 40 years. But that poor compressor. I'll bet it hates you for making it work so hard.
When I take my header off for any reason I use HAND BALLS to plus exhaust ports. I have a 77 kz650 . Never tried it without the studs though, might not work as well without them. But they are pretty cheap, they are reusable and you don't have to worry about water intrusion. As always great video Thanks
It's like picking scabs off @5.35......Sooooooo satisfying!!!!
pro tip: use as wire wheel brush on an angle grinder and die grinder to strip paint, rust and oxidation down to bare metal
super pro tip: use paint stripper first
Chemical strippers can be your worst nightmare, one tiny scrap of it left on (IN) the surface and it will come back to haunt you by wrecking the new paint.
It might have been easier to pull the engine and bead blast it. Then you could paint the whole thing.
Don't forget to copper slip the studs. It might prevent a replay of your nightmare in another 20 years, if we are still allowed to put petrol in. Keep up the good work👍.
Sure thing mate, there will be something there to stop them sticking for sure!
I've just used Simoniz Matt Black Engine Enamel on my Bandit engine, and it feels powdery. I've got a can of Satin Black Tough Paint on the shelf, and after seeing you use it on your engine, I'm thinking about going over mine with it.
Answered your comment over on Facebook mate!
Thumbs up for each of the videos in this project series. Looking forward to the next one. I understand as you apparently do that being organized and tidy makes things easier. Owned a 2011 Bonnie SE for a while so have a soft spot for Triumphs.
Cool, thanks for the support mate, glad you're enjoying it.
I used the gloss black on engine case super glossy hope it stays like it will use matt for engine thanks
It's a shame you didn't make this video earlier, I just painted the whole engine of my Bandit 600. I used Simonize as well but the Engin Enamel instead of Tough one. I was not sure the Tough paint will be heat resistant enough. Black Enamel comes comes only as gloss or matt so I settled for matt. On all the cover including rocker, i used the Tough Satin through, it looks great. Now i have to cut out all the cover gaskets and will start putting the bike togethers
Great job mate, the engine looks 100% better painted. Enjoying the series so far as I'm a bit of a Triumph fan boy... 👍
Glad you like the videos mate, plenty more to come!
Lovely job!!! Watching that knackered paint come off was so satisfying. Can't wait to see the plans for the exhaust and I bet you are well up for trying something new! 😉
Sure thing mate, almost as satisfying as peeling a scab (only boys would understand that of course, as Penny's just given me 'that look'!)... still nervous about the exhaust but it's gonna be a great challenge.
You legend, I have to do this to my r6 2003 race bike. Thanks for sharing 👍.
From shabby to looking good 😉 if it's worth doing it right and it looks 💯 times better. Great video sir. Thanks Andy
Thanks 👍
This brings back memories, I did a complete gpz750 engine in this manner ..several steel wheels later and a lick of paint got it looking great 👍
i enjoyed that nearly as much as i think you did , Glints back in your eyes ,
I didn't realize how bad paint was until you sanded it ...looks great now Dell ..and am sure exhaust will look amazing.too ..can't wait
Nice work del! I think the exhaust sounds like something you will refuse to give up on and it Will be amazing! And its Always healty to challenge yourself and learn.
That's the plan my friend, I appreciate your faith.
Love these triumphs! Enjoying this project!!! Those stud bolts coming loose last video was nerve-racking!
Glad you're enjoying it mate, any project is exciting and and adventure to enjoy...
@@Moonfleet41 No doubt. They’re all exciting but there’s a special place in my heart for the Triumphs and the Harleys..
@@morrow.m Kindred spirits there then mate.
Perfect timing, Del. I'll be doing this myself very soon. My ZZR needs fork seals so while the front end is out I might as well drop the rad and downpipes and get it done.
As a friend of mine would say when I tell him how dirty his bike is : "Ahí no se mira, hombre"... You don't look there, man.
Fantastic work!!!
I've used Simoniz UHT matt black on my radiator and oil cooler and oil lines.
Let's hope it will stand the abuse of the elements on the uk roads
Nice work Del. Very satisfying to see that old paint come off.
Having just finished a cosmetic restoration on a 20yr old j1 zx6r I'm watching you and thinking about what I've just done leaving me asking the question of all here yourself included " why do we all work on old bikes so often and with such passion ? "

Del, thanks I find your videos most entertaining, please keep them coming, I cannot wait for the next Wasteland episode.
Very smart finish Del.
I've never owned a fully faired bike or even a liquid cooled one either, so I know how cacked on that stuff can get.
Cheers

Thanks Nick, this was a gift from our wonderful salted roads in glorious damp Blighty! Nothing lasts that long over here... I'd swop our road salt for your red dust any day!!
Nice job! I would use matt black spray
I did buddy.. it was just wet ! dried satin like the rest of the engine later on.
I like how it turned out. Hope that paint sticks to the aluminium block well with no primer. Paint look thick enough to withstand outside conditions. Good luck and keep us posted :)
Used it for a long time, it's designed specifically to use on bare metal!
Hiya Del don't always comment on your vids but watch and enjoy them all. Really liking this project 👍
Cheers Dave, great to have you aboard mate, really appreciate your support!
What a sod of a job, nice work.
Please use a high temp anti seize on those studs, aluminium, heat cycles and stainless steel can and do stick together. Anti seize will orevent that. Gloves are a good idea with degreasers, but youre a big boy and know this anyway, I just hope you dont end up with the hands i have, 40 plus years of being covered in oil, grease and mank and until realitively recently no realy effective gloves that protect you that you can actually work in.
Please sent the name of the beer you were drinking when you came up with the idea of the busa....
Love your work
Cheers
The studs are only finger spun for now, so I know where to find them... they will be double nutted and torqued in place and indeed I shall use either some AL1100 or at the very least some copper anti-seize... thanks for your support mate.
why did you tighten up those two nuts, if the paint was still wet?
My nan told him too
3 into 1.....TURBO!!! ;-)
'Stumpy', the blown Leg end . . .

Thanks for sharing Dell.
It's going to look stunning.
I'm looking forward to seeing the exhaust fabrication.

Thank you Clive, it's a daunting task, but I can't wait to get started!
Looks neat and tidy and great job done as always Del 👍. As always keep safe and ride safe to the pair of you .
Thanks, will do, you too, hope you're recovering well!
El video más satisfactorio que he visto en tu canal, saludos bro
Gracias por tus amables palabras hermano, ¡viaja seguro y disfruta tu semana!
Just a little bit of Elbow Grease & look what you have achieved! (Well actually it was quite a lot of Elbow Grease). Give yourself a pat on the back Mate.
My Suzuki has gone just like that. I'm not looking forward to doing it but it's so rewarding & i reckon just by doing that it's as good as adding £500 GBP to the value.
Good luck with yours mate, taking good care of a bike will always retain your investment, that's for sure!
Top job , that air powered Dremel is a great little tool, all the best to you both x👍
Jice as usual ... studs arevthe way to go fir exhausts ..im using said studs given ive just had to rebuild my gsx 14 abive crack case ..mission all over heafer studs ..engine is in tv's to go in and rig rest if it up ....been to long lol
Have been always amazed at the results you get with a rattle can.. top shelf mate.
Thanks buddy, just gotta take your time and get it thick enough (but not too thick!).
Delboy's Garage cheers mate, but I’m completely rubbish with them. Lol
Looking forward to the exhaust build. Can't wait to see what challenges it presents and more importantly, how you overcome them!
You and me both mate! It'll be new ground for me...
I have ridden one of them I have to say it was one of the best bikes I have test rode. Would I own one heck yeah. But there far and few between here.
Every day i look and i enjoy you beautiful nice work
I am desame guy i want it do good , i dont like half work,, good work Del 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Nice job young man, pleased to see craftsmanship still exists. I am renovating my stepsons bandit and have just used wrinkle finish heatproof paint on the engine. Looks great and contrasts well with the black gloss on the rest of the bike. Thanks for the vid, stay safe, all the best.
Hi there, that sounds like a good project and I can imagine that came out pretty well... good luck with it, and thanks for your support.
Yes! A three into one 'Brooklands Can'. (one inch thick, two feet tall, & loud 'Moggie 1000 fruity-trumpets' on the overrun)
Absolute doddle - Buy Penny a BIG Toblerone, pantograph up some card templates, & hit the chip-shop with tinsnips : ) x
Nice vid, Del. A big old compressor is on my wish list. Oh yeah and some proper pneumatic tools!
Still in a heatwave here but still alive! Stay well both of you!
🏍👍🏍
Cheers mate, I put off buying a proper compressor for many years, and the need for it never goes away, and the reasons to buy it get more and more logical, once you finally do, you wonder how you lived without it, a world of air tools opens up to you and life gets easier! Stay chilled and cool there both, move slow and keep in the shade... stay well, D&Px
Delboy's Garage I’m sure, Del! What a nice addition to the garage... thx, and take care. 😎
That last part number should read SIMVHT51D.
I have a black engined triumph and the engine paint is intact but dull. Is there a cleaning agent or spray that will get me back to matt black?
I use harley engine brightner . Just spray on works a treat .....
Harley Engine Brightener like Pez says, and also H-D Denim Paint cleaner, or at a push, even dashboard silicone, but it does dull away quite quickly and GT85 works quite well to make a black engine look really nice.
@@pezb1 Cheerz, I shall give that a bash.
@@Moonfleet41 Cheerz, I shall give them all a try.
Cant beat a freshly painted engine ;-) great job as always
Thanks 👍
My Teeth hurt now😂 you have given that little red and yellow driver some stick 😀 .bikes coming on nicely
Cheers buddy, someone sent me a boxful, so I have to use them, they're a genuine multi-purpose tool! Hope you've been playing out on the Enfield, I expect 1000 miles by Sunday, then you can rip all the sad bits off and start TEC-ing it!
Miło się ciebie ogląda, jesteś debeściak. Pozdrawiam
I use that paint on all my bikes, it usually dries to a satin finish quite fast
Man i like how you keep everything organized when I’m working on my garage damn i live a miss all around lol
excellent paint use it a lot at work
do many colours nice job👍

a lot of technique out there
Hey Del I haven't been around to watch your videos lately. Catching up to them now. Looks great as always Del.
No worries, good to hear from you, hope life is good... have a great week and ride safe!
Great video! Super job in removing paint. Could you tell me what the add on piece is called? I am looking for the same to clear my engine.
Just a safety comment... When wire wheel cleaning nuts.... At least screw them onto a bolt, this will give you extra grip, and versatility, and... save your fingers from a woopsie moment... lol 🤔😎
Cheers mate, good advice indeed!
Yessss Del! - Been dreaming of making my own high exhaust for my GSX750 for ages! I'm buzzing to see how you get on :D :D :D

Thanks, you too!
Good job gives me ideas for my old girl
Cracking job there. Looking forward to the thingy. Thanks :)
You and me both mate!
Unbelievable transformation , excellent series .
Many thanks!
Tough black doesn't say anything about being a high temp paint you sure it will hold up?
Proof of the pudding and all that, the bike's still on the road in regular use, and the paint's in fine condition!
Awesome as always!
That will be a ‘Legendary ‘ underbelly!
Pardon the pun hehe
As well love the witty terminology ‘bracket thingy’.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Delboy's Garage
Yup:-)
Nice job Del, always better when you have the right tools. Looking forward to the exhaust build mate, you will just have to learn to tig weld lol. Penny and you have a good week. Cheers
Del, what is the difference between Simoniz paint (tough satin black) with the green logo (like the one you used) and the yellow logo (apart from the price). I just ordered a can with the correct part number SIMVHT61D and the yellow logo version arrived. Prices vary quite a bit but I'm thinking maybe they have changed the can design and it may be the same? Any thoughts? Cheers Del
sweet , not looking forward to doing mine in winter but getting tank and panels resprayed 2k so a good time to do engine paint .
Really enjoy watching your endeavours as always ..Peace and love brother 👍🏻☮❤
4.5 nights to go yipee then 8 days off yeeeha!
Ayup brother Springy, good to hear from you... sounds like you're looking forward to some much needed time off! Good luck with the paint too, I know you'll make it work... P&L D&Px
@@Moonfleet41 yes it'll be a good project
for deepest winter ..may take engine out for ease of access then probably repaint frame as it same colour as the tins then powder coat wheels and swinging arm and peg hangers and and and !!!! oops !
Thanks for all your kind support will endeavour to get some new tunes recorded too sometime ...so many plans !!
Peace love and hugs to you both 👍🏻☮❤
Looking good Del! I'm looking forward to seeing what you have planned for the exhaust. I wish that Simoniz paint was readily available here in the USA; I gather it's quite common in the UK, but sadly not here.
Hi Donald, Good to hear from you, i hear form a few guys over there then Simoniz don't sell paint over there, but for this which is just a stone chip style paint, have a look at the Rustoleum range, i think they do a few options that do much the same thing..!!
The cleaning part was like therapy, awesome.. does warming the spray can help it flow?
Yes it does mate, simple heat expansion of the gases inside the can force down on the paint liquid a bit harder, and gives you a finer atomization, a great way to get every drop of paint and the best value for money!
@@Moonfleet41 perfect thanks.
My son made his own exhaust for his Land Rover Trialer using pre made bends and a mig, but it's not as on show as it is on a bike but looking forward to the next episode
Del makes everything look great!
That’s looking a lot better now, I know how Nerve wracking it can be removing Stubborn bolts, and the time it takes to put it right if one snaps off 🤬😡 keep up the good work. Cheers Del ⚙️🔩🔧👍
Thanks Martin! 👍
Hindel, what size is your compressor, mine always seems to run out of air half way through whatever I’m doing. I think I need to upgrade, any ideas please, advice etc.
Hi Ian, good to hear from you mate... with compressors, it's not the size of the tank that's the problem by the sound of it, it's the pump itself... all compressors are rated on CFM (cubic feet per minute), literally translated, how much air it can push out when it's running and equally, any air tool or air equipment you use has a rated CFM consumption, basically how much air it needs in order to feed it... so if you're running a compressor that's, say, 10CFM and a tool that needs 12CFM, it'll run out and the tool will slow down and you'll have to wait for it to build back up.
With my blast cabinet set up, I researched it needs 12CFM, so bought my compressor that runs 14CFM, so when I'm blasting, it runs for about a minute every 2 mins., and I can blast away and the compressor keeps up! So have a look at what tools you're running and what your CFM is on your compressor (it'll be rated on the spec. plate, which should be a welded plate on the tank), and see if, maybe, you need to upgrade... here's a link from the Sealey range, from low to high, don't worry so much about the tank size, it's the CFM you need to consider.... mine's a 50L tank with a 14CFM motor, same as the motor on the 200L tank, so although it looks like a bigger compressor, it produces the same air pressure, just switches on and off a little more often, and it's compact and fits in my space... have a look mate, see what you reckon: www.sealey.co.uk/search?q=compressor&id=5637150276&sortby=2
@@Moonfleet41 cheers Del
Patience of a saint taking all that old paint off. But oddly soothing to watch, at least with the sound off as it sounded like a dentist’s drill with the sound up. Not soothing at all
Thanks mate, sorry about that, I did consider some cool music and drop the sound myself, but for some reason it didn't happen in the end and just went with the dentist drill ;-( !
Hi Del great work as always. Can I ask, you mentioned in an earlier video about blacking out a bike engine with it still in the frame. Which video is that in? Cheers Jase
Hi Jase, yeah I did, it was in the streetfighter ZX7R project, can't put my finger on the video right now, but that's where you'll find it, it'll be titled two guide the viewer, so should be pretty easy to find in the playlist!
Delboy's Garage - that’s great Del I’ll take a look, its appreciated. Cracking channel chap 👍 cheers Jase
Great video fantastic job really looking forward to next one stay safe 🇬🇧👍🏻
Hi Del, currently restoring a Honda Vtr 1000 firestorm. I need to paint the engine and was just wondering what your thoughts are on painting the whole engine with the Tough Paint? I've seen you repaint another engine using the Simonez Engine Paint so just looking to see if you have noticed any difference between the two? Thanks
Hi Iain, I've found over the years that engines don't get hot enough to burn Tough Paint, just let is cure fully for a fair few days and then fire it up and let it idle till it warms up and the fan kicks in, then switch it off and let it cool right down, this seems to cure the paint just fine and then it lasts really well... the only place it may be vulnerable is round the exhaust manifold area, but personally I've never even seen it discolour on the bikes I've done, and that includes air cooled Harleys... full degreasing the metal is really important though, even perhaps, roast off the engine metal surface with a blow torch gently before you paint in order to vapourise any contaminants!
@@Moonfleet41 awesome, really appreciate the reply. Will give the Tough Paint a go. Thank you
You can do it !
so I'm really looking forward to those exhausts !!!
looking great good luck with the exhaust LOL
Memories of my last trip to the dentist 😀
