The most brutally self-aware MMORPG would be awesome to play. Every gag pulled in the Epic NPC Man series would be present. From the super-childish PC names to the egregious MTX paywalls (ironically, of course).
I love how these episodes never really let on as to how much the NPCs know about their existence. Or, maybe some guess at it, some ignore asking questions and makes it work for them against the game, and some are completely unaware.
Yay new episode! This really makes me wonder where NPCs get their rewards from (are they secretly the richest folks out there?), and what a child NPC would be like (after ten years of not aging)…
So much nuance about the implications of NPCs standing around waiting for an adventurer to come by and help them with matters of life and death. Had me in stitches as always!
Everything about this video is just awesome, the throwback lines, the camera angles, the emotionless NPC-way Hamish is delivering his lines. Just...perfection!
Actually, Fred's choice was more optimal: If he goes with the adventurer to help saving her daughter, he would become an entangling, useless escort npc, sobbing "slow yourself adventurer" constantly. It would take 1d6 days to get there and rescue the girl, but that way she was rescued in no time. :)
The way AI works all of the NPCs would eventually have you buying items from a nearby shop to bring it to them or something just a simplistic. AI is very "cheaty" when allowed to do its own thing.
Sometimes I regret not being an NPC. No worries, no mortage, no loans, no irritating boss, no dumb coworkers. And if someone messes with the NPC, they are way overpowered...
"Adventurer! I need you to explain to Hamish why using adventurers to solve problems like that is not as good as it seems! Also, catch my sheep, save at least four children from the bandit camp and rescue me from a vampire lair!"

It seems that Fred has already forgiven Greg for bumping into him and ignoring him afterwards...
😂😂
The most brutally self-aware MMORPG would be awesome to play. Every gag pulled in the Epic NPC Man series would be present. From the super-childish PC names to the egregious MTX paywalls (ironically, of course).
If this were an mmo, I'd want Greg's sheep running amok to be like a horribly hard secret engame boss lol.
I'm loving how the npcs are gradually becoming even more self aware that they can create quests on the spot
It's almost like Greg forgot he's in a videogame...
I'm not sure how tight his grasp on that concept is. He's seen some shit.
That is what makes Greg epic.
He's the Truman of the game. The only one fully awar is Baradun. Greg's only slowly waking up yet.
Greg does not know it's a game.
Anyone else watch these videos a second time just to see what all the other NPCs and adventures are doing in the background?
I love how these episodes never really let on as to how much the NPCs know about their existence. Or, maybe some guess at it, some ignore asking questions and makes it work for them against the game, and some are completely unaware.
Hamish once again providing the true meta.
Need one where Roland is at the cave, and as the other adventurer shows up he kills the girl and shades away.
Ok that's little dark.
Yay new episode! This really makes me wonder where NPCs get their rewards from (are they secretly the richest folks out there?), and what a child NPC would be like (after ten years of not aging)…
The child NPC question is already answered in this video

So much nuance about the implications of NPCs standing around waiting for an adventurer to come by and help them with matters of life and death. Had me in stitches as always!
This was so great. Greg's reaction was hilarious and I couldn't stop laughing! Definitely hoping to see more like this. Well done!!
Well. After the 100th rescue I wouldn't worry anymore either.
This actually explains a lot of game quests.
Greg's reactions and emotions are sooo relatable and realistic, yet hilarious. I love it!
"My sheep that have run amuck."
I understood that reference!
Imagine how cool it would be to play a game where the Npcs could generate their own quests like that.
The way AI works all of the NPCs would eventually have you buying items from a nearby shop to bring it to them or something just a simplistic. AI is very "cheaty" when allowed to do its own thing.
This is just random quests, which many games already have..
it's coming - photorealistic games with AI agent NPCs and plotlines that don't even exist being generated - I give it 2 years
Sometimes I regret not being an NPC.
Such a great show. Can't wait for the upgrade. I could watch VLDL all day
Greg, you are not the only one who thinks that everyone else is nuts!!
That moment when you get adds for Viva La Dirt League on a Viva La Dirt League video. Epic two for 1
God damn, you guys come through with literally every episode 🙌
This would make a very interesting game concept.
Was thinking d same
the closest we have is Recettear, where you run an Item shop in an RPG world. You can hire adventurers to collect items from Dungeons for your store.
That's how side missions are made lol
No words can describe my shock, horror, and uncontrollable laughter at this video, and the fact I never thought of it that way before...
He is not the first one. I remember a certain npc crying because his house is on fire
