  • Let's talk about tractor safety. With the growth in popularity of compact and subcompact tractors, more small property owners are joining the tractor community. These are some basic safety tips that can help the new tractor owner or the experienced operator. Here are some product suggestions. I'm no tractor or safety expert, but I'm happy to share my experience with you and look forward to hearing from you in the comments. Please post your tips to share with others. This video features the Kubota B2601 compact tractor and Land Pride attachments. I will discuss the PTO, 3 point hitch, front end loader, and other important features.

Always zip up your jacket when working around a tractor. Promptly zips up jacket. Jacket is unzipped for remaining scenes. 😂😂😂

You need the PTO cover chain at each end. They aren't great when not chained properly. There should be a grease nipple at the base which has to be done. The new quick release PTO covers are good - on the shopping list.

Agree with you and your friends comments. I had a friend who’s arm was ripped from his shoulder from power take off and he was an experienced operator but one mistake was all it took. I was running my Kubota today with bucket to capacity. Every move was making sure I wouldn’t tip, slow, sure and safe.

Terrific tips here, Ed. Thanks for putting this video together. The “no front brakes” reminder might save my bacon someday. FWIW, I’d suggest that eye and hearing protection are important too. The B2601 operates at noise levels that can result in long-term hearing loss.

Anyone here because they almost rolled over in the first 30 mins of use 🤣
    I am!
I just sold my 1960 Ford 851 and bought a TYM T264. My Ford had weighted tires and a counter balance weight.
I didn’t bother with either on the TYM. Things were going fine. Rear tires lifted a little with a wet heavy load but no worry. Then the front left tire sunk into the wet stuff. Well, she tipped and lifted in about a 45 degree. Bout, shit my pants 🤣
Now I have my box grader on!
Wear your belt and keep the ROPS up!
Also, thanks for the tips in the comments everyone. They do matter. I’m betting you all had your own scares.

The slip sleeve on your PTO shaft needs chained to the implement so that it CANNOT turn. There should be a safety chain with your shaft or your implement it is a small light duty chain. Just food for thought. Long time farm manager and 25 year front line paramedic.

    • @MyClutteredGarage

Thanks very much. Some of my equipment included the chains, yet my Land Pride attachments did not.

    • @MyClutteredGarage

Apparently, many implements are not including chains anymore. So I'm not sure if it really matters.

Pto is safe even when the engine is on. Just dont engage the thing. In my 20 years off and on operating tractors, big bad 100+ horsepower Hay punishing machines, never has PTO ever engaged mystically or from some phantom force. Just dont be an idiot. But Cluttered Garage is right. Since most people are idiots, it would be significantly safer to just turn off the engine. And I do remember working around spnning PTO shafts and spinning round balers and square balers etc... dangerous but again if you are not an idiot you will, well should be fine.

    • @MyClutteredGarage
      @MyClutteredGarage  Год назад

With my old Ford 9N, the only way to operate the 3 point hitch was when the pto was engaged. It was really problematic if you were mowing and stalled in high grass. And when you depressed the clutch, the pto would stop. It was also dangerous as that pto had to spin pretty much all the time. Of course, things have improved since the 1940s & 50s!
