- Poland Revealed: Warsaw is an original travel documentary with the goal of presenting the capital of Poland to international audiences. It was produced by Warsaw-based Movie Mates film studio and completed in 2018 as a pilot for Poland Revealed series.
Poland Revealed: Warsaw breaks the typical structure of a travel show. It combines insightful journalism with the genre's requirements for visual attractiveness. It is focused on the "spirit" of places, the mood of the cities encountered, their cultural life, architecture, history and cuisine. The host meets interesting people, often important public figures, who present a city, its culture and the history of its country to the host - and to the viewers.
The show is hosted by Richard Berkeley - an Englishman currently living in Poland, a journalist, musician, lecturer and animator. He has taught at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music and the Theatre Academy, both located in Warsaw. Currently he is the chairman of the New Chamber Orchestra Foundation. As the host of Poland Revealed he is open, direct and, most importantly, lively interested in the cities and their people.

The Warsaw is changin so quickly that there would be a need (and good idea) to make an update video during summer'19 - with Europejski Plac, Koneser, Elektrownia Powisle, Wistula Boulevards, The View, summer cultural events, cultural nightlife in restored places.. a lot more to reveal and to compare with 2016.

Why the interview is not being conducted with someone who is Polish? Mr. Smolarz, who was Jewish communist left Poland in 1970. Then he came back after getting money from Soros. I do not believe he reflects the history of Poland.

I care to disagree when it is said that Warsaw is not an easy city to fall in love with. Surely, I haven't been to Wrocław or Gdańsk or any other big cities in Poland, but I have been in Warsaw and I absolutely fell in love with it. I love the mixture of its most recent history with contemporary and modern tall buildings with other sites that date way back in history. I love the night colors, the dynamic streets. Other things made me fall in love with the city: how clean the city is and how well its gardens are taken care of (on an environmental perspective, say); on a cultural and historical perspective, what fascinates me the most is the respect Warsaw pays to its heroes every year, on August 1st, that makes me want to participate in it. So… how can one not fall in love with Warsaw? :)

Warsaw is a Unic (I insist on this word, full of meaning), really unic City, for me not comparable to any other one, due to its own specificities; and every year it is evoluting; this change will last some more years; it is just fascinating !

@Fabio Thanks for saying that. I got the same reaction listening to this part... I think Warsaw makes you fall in love with it very quickly. There are many things to love here, but mainly it's about the atmosphere, paying respect and tribute to history but also opening itself to change and various ideas. It's full of novel initiatives, there's so much to do here. I'm really proud of the journey our capital has made. It's so inspiring. 💜

how much i love Warsaw ! I was there the 1st time in 88'. What a change, hard to believe. Warsaw is with no doubt the European capital which developed the most during the last 2 decades, and the move is on, it will still last some years more. Amazing City, incredible dynamism. Every year brings new and very ambitious surprises, (this year, Elektr. Powisle, and then Bohema/Browary Warszawskie/Art Norblin, etc etc etc). For me, no doubt that in a very short future, Warsaw will become one of the most visited Capitals in Europe. City of great/tragical History, a mix of different styles of architecture, very tasty food, nice people, Warsaw has its own specificities, like no other one in Europe. Of course, some progress most still be done (less car trafic, redynamisation of squares (look the example of the next coming "5 Rogow" square), but no doubt that it will follow the right way also in these fields. Varso : VIE !!!!

Sorry guy, I'm a traveller and visited a huge quantity of Cities all over the world -but I haven't been so far in the jungle, may be a good idea for the future -. your last comment make me think that you didn't undersand that I travelled all over the World (Africa, America, Europe) and visited many Cities ! not yet the jungle !!!Now : You're right to point out some problems that Warsaw has to face. What you say is correct. It must still progress a lot in some fields, and particularly in pollution : that is very correct. My point of view is based on its evolution during the last 2 (or 3) décades. And, from this point of view, I'm convinced that you'll hardly find other cities in Europe which had such a developement ! The pb to start the metro belongs to the past. Currently the 3rd line is on the way. Before 2012 : no bicycles in Warsaw. Now, Veturilo has a huge success. But, as I say, many progresses must still be done (too much car traffic, coal heating, what is an outdated system and creates air pollution, etc etc). In spite of all those negative points, believe me : Warsaw is just a fascinating City for many reasons (historical, mix of architecture styles which makes its specificity), evolution like no other City currently, rehabilitation of Vistula river, amazing, enhancement of real estate, etc etc). In spite of your (right) comment : be proud of your City, believe me !
and : the new generation is more sensible to environment; a huge demo will take place on friday, take part to it ! may be you should candidate as a leader of the green party, which is still too weak in Poland. You have a good Mayor, he's open minded, and such people like Robert Biedron can give an impulse for good changes

This was filmed back in 2016 and watching this now in 2019 it's amazing to see how many changes have already taken place in the city. A great video btw.

You know, I get very emotional about this city. I’ve lived here as an American for the past 2 years, and I love it so much. It seems free from the stress of other big cities. It’s so laid back and the people are so easy to get along with. It’s also very exciting because of the changes happening all around.

A truly marvellous city! Being from Australia I constantly feel reminded of Warsaw whenever I'm in Melbourne. I feel that maybe Melbourne architects had Warsaw on their mind when designing the city and today Melbourne stands as a mini version of Warsaw in the land Down Under.

I cannot wait to go back when the Varso Tower is complete and the Vistula River Boardwalk is finished. The city has developed so fast that the skyline is different every time I visit.

I always wanted to visit Poland . My father and grandfather both visited Zakopane i might be mispronouncing it for which I apologize but they did some great skiing there a long long time ago ! My dad told me the people were very very nice people!

Currently, around 10 skyscrapers are under construction in Warsaw, and many more are planned. Warsaw regains the prestige lost during World War II.
It never regained it. And those skyscrapers are just making the city uglier.

My definition of Warsaw? A unique city that keeps filling in the gaps and healing the wounds left by the WW2, a city whose citizens, while loving, curious and hospitable, might wear a slightly suspicion or distrust on their faces due to still remembering the disastrous betrayals of the not-so-distant past, a city one should visit at least once every ten years to be able to witness a transformation on a grand scale and to see its ever-changing skyline. It's where the past is being taken care of and restored, and the future being looked forward to. It's truly exciting to be able to live here! It's incomparable! If you do come - let me know. Love how the city is getting even more beautiful and people friendly! I had the amazing opportunity growing up in Warsaw during the 80's and I'm not objective since I considered it my second home. Hope soon to see it with my own eyes 💗💗💗

Excellent piece. Been to this striking city twice in the past three years but lots more to see and experience.
These neons are indeed very unique i remember back in 90s the look of this on the buildings they create very unique picture of the city where most of the places was very dark during the night.
My cousin remembers her childhood in Kielce (280 km on the south from Warsaw) with the main street (one of the longest in Europe) full of these fantastic, well designed neons on every building with cafe, bookshop, shop with shoes or clothes etc. The street, going up and down (Kielce are in mountains) was just magic. That was in 1960s and 1970s.- and there is a film on RUclips made at that time by somebody, showing it a little.
polish people, specially women are really beautiful. there is strong connection between Polish and Iranians since WW2. Around 60,000 Polish women and children came to Iran as refugees and stayed and married and had children... and became Polish-Iranian.

Thank you for this wonderful documentary! My DAD, a farmercame from just outside WARSAW. "Otwosk" is now a modern, bustling suburb of the capitol city. No.more farms!
Otwock never was the "farm land". It was built in the second half of 19th century as the palce with summer houses, villas and smal palaces for Warsaw inhabitants and the place good for health because of the pine forests around.

Part of my heritage is Polish. Mostly from Warsaw. The other part of my Polish heritage is from L’viv (L’wow). One day I would love to visit both cities (along with the rest of Poland and the former eastern borderlands).
Its easy. Just book a ticket and go ;p its safe, clean, infrastructure is great, there is food to die for.

Thank you for your comment. Phrase "destruction by the Nazis" emphasize political responsibility, Warsaw was to be destroyed by Hitler's direct order. In fact on the German side there was significant number of other nationalities assembled on the territory of USSR however they were obviously subject to the control of the German war machine. Norman Davies's Rising '44 is a must-read study of Warsaw's hecatomb for anyone interested in WW2 history.

Hey Maciej. I made a distinction of who destroyed Warsaw between the group of political individuals and a country. It was the Nazi Germany responsible for this and not the Nazis. To a foreign person not familiar with WWII, Nazis could be understood as Poles. Kind like today we have political groups within the European Union that have alliances across the national; borders with their representatives in Brussels.
Furthermore, we do not say that Irak or Afghanistan were the Republican wars or that the Republicans came or occupied or destroyed Baghdad. We call them American wars and it was the Americans that did them not the Republicans. The republicans were in charge had the majority but just as in the Nazi Germany there were other parties that also at least partially supported this.

There is Polish red borscht and there is Ukrainian red borscht, both totally different in terms of ingredients, spicing, texture. Russian Pierogi have polish origin, come from eastern border communities with influences from there,even some Polish cannot make them right, as apart from potatoes, onions, white cheese,pepper, salt fresh MINT is a must.
Not russian pierogi for god sake! They are ruskie pierogi (ruthenian piergi) and have conotation with the Polish region on the east, which had first contact in history with Russia in 1939.

Poland is a great country and restaurants are fantastic, especially if one makes money abroad (US, United Kingdom etc).
Not true, do not say bullshit. There are a lot of good restaurants with quite small prices. They are opened everywhere for locals, do not mix them with the restaurants in the tourist places.

Największe "nasycenie" neonami, szczególnie w latach 60 i wczesnych 70, miała Łódź. Ulica Piotrkowska, to było polskie Las Vegas.
ul Sienkiewicza w Kielcach (krotsza od Piotrkowskiej, ale tez bardzo dluga) miala chyba nawet większe nasycenie neonami z racji upchniecia dużej liczby sklepow i instytucji na krótszym dystansie. Z reguły to była wspaniały design. Zreszta w calej Polsce te neony sie powtarzaly - np. wszechobecny kot w butach Naszej Ksiegarni czy wspaniałe odjechane prosiaki nad sklepami miesnymi w centrach miast, napis "Delikatesy", jaskółki Mody Polskiej itd..

Od trzydziestu lat wciąż się rozwija i jakos sie nie zmęczyło. Podobny rozkwit Waszawa przezywała w 14 w., potem w drugiej połowie 16 w. i na poczatku 17 w., w 18 w. (to był rozwój na miare dzisiejszych czasów) , w latach 1816-1914 (faktycznie była najładnejszym i najbardziej rozwinietym miastem Imperium Rosyjskiego, nawet jesli Rosjanie ja przesladowali i specjalnymi dekretami zabronili jej po Powstaniu Styczniowym rozrastać się wszerz). Potem nastapił wręcz niebywały rozkwit - w latach 1918-1939. Do tego trzeba doliczyć odtworzenie Starówki i wielu innych ulic w latach 1949-1954 oraz świetna architekture modernistyczną z lat 1956-1970. Chyba tylko wojny i napasci z zewnątrz sa w stanie Warszawie przeszkodzić.

Excellent documentary but I need notice one thing. Except Wilanow Palace, you completely forgot visit (or mention about) "Miasteczko Wilanow" in Wilanow area. It is a perfect example, how Warsaw is rapidly expanding. Of course, I do not have on my mind any skyscrapers in this area but a brand new flats. It started over 17 years ago and currently there is plenty of new buildings (should be around 20-30 thousends flats), shops and offices. Construction works are still in progres. From time to time a new buildings are poping up. In The Miasteczko Wilanow also has been built a new temple, which is The Temple of Divine Providence (Świątynia Opatrzności Bożej).

Its actually right in the centre of Europe 🤣 actually, it cannot be compared to Eastern countries as it is much nicer, safer and also in many ways better than countries in the West (infrastructure, growth, how clean the cities are, level of education of its inhabitants /high percentage with master's degree/, technologies i.e. solutions in banking, free university education etc.)

Early life
Tsiolkovsky was born in Izhevskoye (now in Spassky District, Ryazan Oblast), in the Russian Empire, to a middle-class family. Był synem polskiego urzędnika[3] Edwarda Ciołkowskiego wywodzącego się ze szlacheckiej rodziny herbu Jastrzębiec i wykształconej Rosjanki tatarskiego pochodzenia - Marii Jumaszewej. Z zawodu był nauczycielem matematyki i fizyki. Sam wspominał, że złączył w sobie krew rosyjską, polską, tatarską i jeszcze, zdaje się, ukraińską[3].
