The year is 2056. The Earth is a sparsely populated wasteland ruled by authoritarian atheists. In order to save humanity from self-destruction, all religions have been declared illegal and only one language can be spoken. Knut (Sébastien Rajotte) and Madalyn (Humberly Gonzales) must navigate this post-apocalyptic world to survive, but one false step and they face eradication. 2056: A Dystopian Black Comedy is a new play written by Keir Cutler (Teaching Shakespeare, Teaching Hamlet) “Simply fantastic!” bloodyunderrated.com. Directed by Jon Lachlan Stewart (Big Shot, Wildside) “Stewart is clearly a major Canadian talent!” Stage Door, Toronto.
Montrealer playwright KEIR CUTLER has performed his works across Canada, in New York City and other American cities. Four of his solo shows are on video and have been broadcasted by BRAVO! This is Keir’s fourteenth time participating in the Montreal Fringe Festival. His writing has been called “supremely witty,” Edmonton Journal and “formidably delightful” by New York’s Off-Off Broadway Review. Keir has a PhD in theatre from Wayne State University in Detroit, a playwriting diploma from the National Theatre School of Canada and has a BA from McGill University in English.
JON LACHLAN STEWART is a newcomer to Montreal, and is thrilled to be making this wonderful city his home, working in both French and English. Jon is a playwright, performer, director, and artistic director of the Sterling award-winning company, Surreal SoReal Theatre, and has worked across Canada. He is a 2014 graduate of the directing program at the National Theatre School, and recently performed the role of James Joyce in Travesties at the Segal Centre.
There are four actors in 2056: A Dystopian Black Comedy. SÉBASTIEN RAJOTTE (Knut) is a 1998 graduate of Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Montréal. He has worked in many of Quebec’s top theatres and has appeared in several television projects, including Les Jeunes Loups and Série Noire. HUMBERLY GONZALEZ (Madalyn) is a 2015 graduate of the National Theatre School of Canada acting program. STUART FINK (Helper 1) has worked professionally as an actor and director across Canada.
