You know when you read a medicines leaflet and it says do not take with grapefruit juice? Wonder is that linked? The grapefruit burns the skin, as it’s applied topically? Not ingested? Intrigued, but too lazy (and high) to actually look it up 🤣
Edit: I’m 29, closer to 30 and experiencing the worst acne for the first time. Not even as a teen did I have so many and sore spots. Used to get the occasional mountain, but this? It’s the milkybars doing it. I’m addicted. I found a random face brand - maybe up adm coming? Anyways bar of soap for oily and blemish prone skin by Acnaut, by Biotrade, Biotrade. With lactic and salicylic acid. Cleared it a lot. I used a face mask last night and broke out again. Skin won’t take anything more than Snail Mucin by CosRX without a break out. My skin is highly reactive, so it’s rejecting anything it deems too rich 🥲😂

I'm sorry but I will never understand why people invest money in makeup wipes when they don't even do their job...... It's ecological & financial waste for absolutely no reason. Using a microfiber cloth with micellar water and then a cleanser would be absolutely perfect in your case! Please consider this, as the cloth would be much gentler on your face anyway (makeup wipes can be very exfoliating).
Edit: Have to add another tip. To remove your eye makeup more easily, hold the cloth with micellar water over your eye area and let the product get into the makeup before you start removing it. It will make your life much easier, as it "breaks down" the makeup, otherwise it doesn't have enough time if you just start scrubbing from the get-go.

Given that the issue seems to be spread across different formulations of wipes, I wonder if the issue is the fabric of the wipes themselves. People can feel something as soft or smooth on their fingers but it can be abrasive to thin skin like around the eyes or mouth.

    • @eepinwillow
      @eepinwillow Год назад +9

You might be on to something. I've noticed with a lot of wipe products, when you scrub too hard, the surface texture can change as the little fibers start to come up out of the weave. Like if I rub a baby wipe on my skin too much, even on tough areas like my arms, it'll get that dry, stretched, raw feeling.
Might be that the fabric irritates or tears the skin and lets the (intended topical) ingredients into the wounds.

Until, I couldn't feel my face anymore, it looked like a sunburn and I got made fun of even more. For example I was allergic to a red dye when I was little (it was in a bunch of candy) until I was a teenager and my mother was allergic to eggs for about 6-7 years as an adult. This is more evident in women as our hormones fluctuate more. We have had other allergies too, just not as noteworthy

I would think it was common sense, especially from a holistic specialist, to not scrub around your eyes with an exfoliate her that has micro beads. I actually have acute adult allergies after a chemotherapy treatment I had to do a decade ago, and I became deathly allergic to a medication I had been on for over 8 years, ended up going into anaphylaxis, my heart stopped for a little over 2 minutes, and then I was in acoma for almost 2 weeks. I was in the hospital when i went into anaphylaxis, if i wasnt already in the hospital id be dead since i didnt have epi pens and wouldnt have ever known that it was a medication i had been taking for atleasy 8 years, including taking it twice the day before (also in the hospital). So now I really don't try any product without patch testing, and even then, the people I live with know where my epi pens are and how to use them, and I always take my meds at the same time and verbally tell someone I just took them incase something happens. I also don't really change my skincare routine or use as many products as I used to just so im able to keep track of what I'm using, when I'm using it, etc.
Anyone can become allergic to anything at any time, but since I've been diagnosed with acute adult allergies I try to be very aware of everything I'm putting on&in my body.

I'd always leave the wipe on my face like a sheet mask for 30s-1min before starting to wipe so that the cleanser in the wipe would have some time to break down my makeup before I started anything like rubbing. After the first few times I used a makeup wipe, I noticed that my skin would feel salty after, so I started to make sure I always rinsed off my face after cleansing before applying a moisturizer. This meant that not only was I avoiding irritation from rubbing the wipe into my skin, but I was also washing off the chemicals from the cleansing wipes.

After that I didn't even feel comfortable passing it on, because I didn't want anybody else to get a reaction from that cursed tube 😅
I don't think they're doing it on purpose, but I would definitely suggest to people that have sensitive skin to avoid their brand alltogether.

Hi James! Love the happy medium showing what you're using and putting the name on the screen 😊 also, holy moly i havent thought of that clear orange soap bar for ages! I was in my early teens in the late 80s. My mom bought that for me for my acne. Great throwback moment!

This is actually crazy because I experienced burning with their makeup removing wipes as well! I thought it was odd since I’m very gentle when using face wipes and I generally don’t have sensitive skin. I decided to stop using them after only a couple uses because my face would burn every time!
Btw I recommend Burt’s Bees makeup remover wipes they are super gentle!

you shouldn't use make up remover wipes anyway, dermatologists dont recommend them. you end up just rubbing the product into your skin instead of washing it off.

@pandapower5902 I generally would avoid them except on days I was feeling lazy... but these wipes would end up helping me to avoid using wipes as a whole 🫢🙃
Micellar water and cleansers for the win

We don't have access to neutrogena's sunscreens from the states or uk, but we do tend to have at least neutrogena norwegian body lotion and hand cream available. I think they're decent for dry skin. I decently liked them. I do recall being ok with their oldschool liquid soap. But that is about it 😂😂😂😂

Yes, I used the grapefruit scrub wash here & there for my face or body before 2020. I was using a lot of awareness with my soap & cleaning products during that time. I noted a reaction and switched to some better formulas. Thankfully I found a community of people dedicated to great skin product breakdowns. ☺️

When I was younger(14-17), I lived and died by that Deep Clean series. I had the wipes that were like cleansing wipes. They got soapy when wet. I used the cream cleanser. I had the moisturizer.
I also used the cleanser with the 2%salicylic acid.
Now, I use Cereve(sp) for my drugstore stuff or Clinique for my highend. Clinique is the only stuff that does not make my rosacia act up.

Some times you are the unlucky one to react to stuff. My husband had an all over face rash from using Glow Recipe Blueberry cleanses, but me and our daughter are fine. But I've also noticed the Plum moisturiser stinging my face, so I've decided to not buy from the brand anymore, but I'm not bashing the brand either. I wish I could use them. And so many Eye creams or like those Liquid eyeshadows BURN ME so much, I hate them. Urban Decay's Primer potion made my eczema flare like a mofo on my eyelid and then bleed and swell - never had that before I used it. So yeah, just not buying it, not suing, can clearly see others love it and don't react

I’m not exaggerating when I say James saved my skin. I had sever acne and thought that I couldn’t use any moistening products on my skin. Every product I used had drying agents and it made my skin burn and peel. Until I found James channel and watched his vids and realized I needed to balance my products. Now my skin is soft, glowy, and for the most part clear. (I still have some acne cause duh I’m human) but I’m forever grateful I found his vids

I agree with you that things can kinda get overboard with putting warning labels on everything. As you said “anyone can have an allergic reaction to anything” so what are we going to do, put warning labels on EVERYTHING?! 🤦‍♀️

the same thing happened with me! i now know i have psoriasis but i never suffered from it until i tried the neutrogena grapefruit cleanser (not the scrub, just the clear gel cleanser). i hadn't used many of their products before but i never heard anything bad so i tried it. that next week was a living hell😅
i used it before i went to bed, no scrubbing with a cloth or anything, just lather and rinse and pat dry. next morning i woke up and was fine, used it again the same way that night and went to bed. next morning i was fine as well, but around noon i noticed my face was just very itchy and hot feeling and it felt like i'd gotten awful sunburn on my whole face despite not being outside much those previous days. by that night the drier parts of my face were cracking open and bleeding, and the parts that didnt crack almost looked like my face was sweating blood and yellowy fluid. i took benadryl and ibuprofen and kept a cool compress on my face thinking it'd pass but by the next day my whole face was shedding like a snake and the thinner parts of my skin were purple and red like i'd been badly bruised.
the only thing i could stand to put on my face was vaseline, even rinsing my face with water felt like being set on fire. i ended up using lidocaine all over my face just to be able to rinse it with saline solution and clean all the blood off. (which is NOT an approved use of lidocaine so, do at your own risk?) over the next week my entire face turned silvery white and the flakes would peel off by themselves, but every time one would come off the bleeding would start again. i was about 18 when this happened and ive had psoriasis flares every few weeks ever since then. i had a similar experience with a sketchy mlm skincare product that was supposed to be like dead sea mud or whatever the hell. but NOTHING has ever injured my face as bad as neutrogena. what's the worst to me is that this isnt even a one off occurrence that can be blamed on my genetics! this happens to people who don't even have sensitive skin or genetic issues!

I’ve been looking at the Pyungkang Yul anti aging cream but haven’t made the purchase yet. Mugwort essence is fantastic for my rosacea prone face.

I got those wipes at Costco. My face was always stinging afterwards but I thought I was just doing it too hard or something. My face was stinging but when I would apply my toner that burned like I had a thousand cuts all over my face. Same thing with the other face products. And they never did that when I hand wash my face. So I stopped using them. I thought it was user error. So thanks for letting me know!

I suffered chemical burns to my face from using a neutrogena liquid face soap (the bottle was blue) once. My skin started to flake off, it became ultra dry with red patches (like tge image at minute 10:05), I became depressed cuz it made me look ugly and I didn't go out for almost a year, until my ex finally found me a cream that helped me keep my skin from shedding. Ever since I'm forced to use specific face creams that don't make me feel like my skin is burning and I gotta be careful of what I put on my face. My skin has never been the same ever since. I used to have oily skin and now it is dry and highly sensitive.
PS: This happened to me at the end of 2014.

I’ve used unscented baby wipes for more than a decade and they work great- i had terrible cystic acne for years, and unknowingly aggravated the inflammation by over cleaning for years. Once I changed my tactics and started using minimal cleansing (baby wipes only) plus good quality moisturizers my skin improved dramatically. I am in my late 50’s now (yikes) and am often complimented on my complexion. I was astonished last week when I got carded at a liquor shop…thought those days were long behind me!.
    In conclusion…less is more!

Their deep clean cleanser literally burned my face. I didn’t think anything of it until my face progressively appeared red. My husband also said the same thing without me mentioning how I felt. Once he mentioned it , I was like ok me too! Then we figured it was the cleanser. It was the only thing we used that was new in our skincare routine. Since we stopped cleansing with it, we haven’t had any reaction or redness/ burning sensations since.

I am 34 so I always used ponds cold cream to take my make up off but when those make up wipes started to get hyped up in 2013 I decided why not let me use these wipes I kept using them despite the wipes buring my eyes and making my skin red but eventually after 2015 I stopped using the wipes altogether and went back to using cold cream to taking my make up off.. Of course I still use gentle natural soap bar's to wash my face after using the cold cream then use alcohol free witch hazel & lastly use my favorite serum and night time moisturizer. 🤗💖🍵
