@@gwEmbassy here's a good one though: you can now load projects without delay, while playing. You have to save the project first though, otherwise you'll lose the changes. I don't think the switch was seamless on the prior firmware.
The pressed track button (A,B,C,D) does not block the drumming pad. Pressing the drum pad locks the track item. Knowing this, you can press the track button a fraction of a second earlier, then there will be no problems. And wait for an update if Korg considers this a bug.
ive had the sq64 for over a month but havent really tried it. I played with it today when I got my EastBeast and I love it! that shift lock feature is really nice, i think ill be able to do some cool stuff with this while still using my Korg SQ1
For whatever reason when I turned on SQ64 today the drum and synth tracks recorded perfectly with no bleeding of drums to synth track. The mute function also worked fine. I really like the upgrade where using the parameter knob you can delete notes by turning it counterclockwise. Maybe the modules defaulted to correct settings or more likely the good karma from all your helpful replies.
I would be happy to test for them! On the SQ-64 Facebook forum some other musicians found different issues with the new firmware. I wonder how they actually do test it.
I was working with huge manufacturer, and situation seems like Korg will have more profit just launching new products, than wasting resources on support of older ones. I think, the greatest thing guys like Korg could do - open formware source code, after product being discontinued. And real miracles could happen then :)
I've been gutted with this piece of kit. I wanted to love it so much, but it is absolutely plagued with bugs. One other I noticed with v2 is setting a track down to a 3 note pattern - it will repeat the first note twice, randomly. In the end I've returned mine, and will wait in the shadows to see if it eventually gets fixed up.
You’re lucky… Mine freezes on occasion when muting drum tracks. I have to physically unplug the power source to get it to function again. Annoying as saving every time I get a groove going I need to remember to save… Keep up the good work.
saaaaaame, mine freezes... Only momentarily. It's literally just enough to throw off my drums too... Gosh, I think I messed up getting this sequencer, imo. It's no longer working for what I'm trying to do.
@@Strangedisciple It’s a great little sequencer. It’s just a shame KORG doesn’t do any relevant fixes… On the expensive side, but look into MIDIbox. Incredible machine! I picked up the v4 for a reasonable price. Does pretty much what a Cirklon does…
Another newbie question regarding SQ-64. Using Korg NTS-1 as an example, when connected through midi I can add notes using SQ-64 keyboard on track A but if i designate tracks B or C I hear nothing when I hit the keys on SQ-64.
That is a rotten bug. Thanks for the detailed video in showing how to reproduce it. I ordered one of these yesterday based on what I read about firmware 2.0 improvements. This gives me some pause. Have you sent this to Korg? I will once I have the unit. Hopefully there's enough noise about it that they will release another firmware update. Would love it if they could "fix" the arp too. Not sure what the implementation idea was there.
I’ve not sent it to Korg. I was a bit demoralised when they ignored my earlier problems with the unit :( But despite issues, I would say the SQ-64 is overall good.
So I've got a lot of sequencers already like the Electribe EMX and SX, Novation Circuit and Mono Station, and a Volca Keys. Would it be worth it to upgrade to this? I've already got a keystep, beatstep, and the original SQ-1 as controllers, but this thing looks so tempting with all the options. It's like a portable Ableton grid with Deluge features and Pocket Operator copy + paste, step editing, etc. I suppose a Beatstep Pro would work, but this has tracks and lanes similar to Elektron gear. Any ideas on what I should do? Perhaps something like the RK-008 or something like the Circuit Tracks for the MIDI sequencing and 0-Coast for the CV? I'm so overwhelmed it's unreal lol... plz help
One more basic question. Are the cables to the mod, cv and gate TRS for the synths to TS for the SQ64? Again apologize for what is obvious to most of you. Thank You.
I bought this sequencer a few weeks ago and for me this machine is still a mistery. I worked before with the Doepfer Dark Time sequencer and that's a very nice user friendly sequencer but this Korg SQ 64 is a dragon but I still keep trying to find out it's mysterious.😊
Haven't found any config for that but it seems that the note precedence also stopped working for pitch CV. Holding C2 and then pressing G2 keeps sending C2 instead of switching to G2. I'm pretty sure it used to be working before v2
My solution to my issues with bugs and workflow issues with the SQ-64 was to stop using it. I've moved to the Hapax, and while that is a lot more expensive, it actually does everything I want from a sequencer. The v2 firmware came out after I already gave up on the SQ-64 completely, so good on Korg for handing me a positive surprise.
Anyone had constant freezing? That’s the new Korg SQ-64 experience I’ve had this week. Freezes mostly on trying to activate anything in global settings and also loading projects!! I reckon this one is going back. 😢
@@gwEmbassy i'm glad you posted a real life video with actual use cases and findings.. too many people just skim through things and never past anything useful... thanks mate
Need help as newbie. After adding a drum track using track D, when I proceed to enter synth track on A drum sounds are heard when I hit certain pads that end up recording as well.
Korg do not have luck with this one. Shame becuse it is the best (on papper) hardware sequencer. I am happy with it but that kind of bugs are a suprise in a gear from a big company like KORG. Hope they will make it right soon.
Hi Marino, yes I found the setting. The quantisation is applied at record time. It’s access by some combination of shift and another key, I forget which at the moment.
Come on guys, so much pessimism in your comments. They just released V2 and yes, it's discounted now, but why do you think Korg will just "forget" about SQ-64. There are not too much alternatives on market as well as in Korg lineup. So HEADS UP and wait for fixes. I'm pretty sure they are in "collect" period now and will proceed to "coding" period very soon. I got this one for 160$ on Reverb and absolutely satisfied what I got for that money.
Because the same thing happened to the Opsix. Someone hypothesized that it's because of a chip shortage, and it's being redesigned to use a different chip, but at this point, no one knows for sure. What we do know is that the Opsix was discounted, then discontinued, rather suddenly.
Unfortunately. KORG laughs about his consumers today. Almost every new model of the last 2 years has had enormous flaws. The models that come under criticism are not even improved but discontinued. I was a KORG lover before but that has changed radically in the last 2 years with the newer broken company policy. Consumers are crap, and only cash cows. The last customer fool is the minilogue bass - a preset pack and a few decals? Shame on KORG. KORG is discontinuing too early and releases too quickly, that's not really for quality improvement.
Well done, Captains-- it's mega-important that creators like you, (US) point out "design flaws" to the manufacturers; luckily, they have real Brains that can correct & fix the problems and not relay on 'AI ', yes, I said it...Artificial Intelligence... to hide their oversight or shortcomings. ( hence, Firmware fixes) * And thanks for your UPDATE; silence can sometimes, be your friend... a Mute button is key! * Keep on Rockin' - Happy Holidays!! .... pass it along
I found another bug where using random or stochastic and going back to normal it will stutter on some steps. I expect a bug fix update pretty surely.
Let’s hope so mate!!

It could be you are using omni mode on your synth, or the MIDI channel is the same.

I do get MIDI to mute, albeit with the issues described in the video.
