Herpes Simplex 2 most often causes genital lesions, whereas Herpes Simplex 1 typically causes oral lesions (often referred to as "cold sores"). I work with victims of child sexual abuse and unfortunately chlamydia is sometimes the discovery that leads to disclosure of that abuse. If a ten year old tests positive, we know we've got a problem and we need to act. It's a curse but also in some ways a blessing because it brings the abuse to light so that we can do what's necessary to stop it.

I have a fun STI story. When I was pregnant, I of course was tested for STIs. A while later, I got a call from someone at the health department wanting to come to my house. I told him I would come there. So he tells me I have syphilis. He wants me to list any partners etc. He wanted me to get the antibiotic shots there, but I said I'd be more comfortable going to my OB for treatment. He calls me the next day with someone else. They ask if I'd been treated yet and start telling me I'm going to give my baby brain damage. I told them I'd get it treated asap. A couple of hours later they call again. He tells me they ran the test again and it was a false positive. I was livid! My OB ran another test just to be sure and it was negative. So stressful!

Wow. I would file a malpractice suit. That's a serious mistake to make that could have created problems for your family and you. That could break up a family telling someone that or even harm your child if you had been treated unnecessarily.

I have a girlfriend whose boyfriend gave her chlamydia. He didn't have symptoms but she sure did. She was not feeling good at all. She told me she had green discharge, painful, heavy periods, bleeding between periods, abdominal pain, and she lost a lot of weight. When she confronted her boyfriend, he accused her of cheating and beat her. Come to find out he was the one cheating and gave it to her. Yallz stay safe out there.

A friend of mine who was having sex with only 1 person didn't have any symptoms but complained of having a bad odor that bathing didn't correct. I advised her to go to the Dr and see what was wrong. It was Chlamydia. Her boyfriend had been sleeping around.

I caught chlamydia and I was abroad in Thailand when it happened so I went to the pharmacy and got heavy-duty antibiotics which seemed to have worked but when I returned to the UK the chlamydia had morphed into something else. I was the one in a million this happens to. The hospital had never seen it before so it was that rare. Caused huge swelling in the testicles area causing pain. I spent four days in the hospital on intravenous antibiotics. It went away. I am writing this as a warning. Do not ignore this because it can turn real bad.

Also, never been catholic, or fully believed in that. At most I believed it when I was too young to think for myself. Once I gained a brain cell I became an atheist. Been in the same monogamous relationship since senior year of high school.

Religion is not very informative on questions of science. They work against science since it help people have critical thinking and question fairy tales.
The past 15 years I've had everyone I dated get a full std panel. It really builds trust too because they know you also are taking the time to wait and verify to them that you also are clean of disease instead of jumping the gun and having sex without impulse control. What started as a disgust of sexual related diseases turned into a filter for trustable partners and now I'm married with 2 kids.

I also would say condoms don't cover everything, secretions are messy and go beyond the end of a profolactic.

@@lotstodo the real problem is that false negatives are really common. You can have HIV and herpes but test negative. If your levels are low enough HIV is undetected and if you don’t have a active outbreak you’ll be undetected for herpes.

Same here. My ex cheated on me near the end of our relationship. Unfortunately my local walk in clinic wasn’t very good and they misdiagnosed me with BV. I ended up not knowing I still had the sti until later on when i had moved on to a new partner and he helped me find a better doctors office who caught it with some routine testing.
This is why im scared to ve in a relationship, lots of guys and girls thibk its cool to have many partners to choose from until they catch aids or Hiv. Thank god im no slut

This is a very interesting video. Explained wonderfully and well informative. I was unaware that PID was caused by chlamydia. Even Microbiology didn’t get into detail like this. Thank you. Great job!
Sometimes. Not always. It's one of the causes, not the only cause.

As far as I know, PID simply means an infection of the uterus and sometimes tubes and ovaries. It can be caused by more than one type of bacteria, but chlamydia is the most common cause.
Can also be caused by the IUD birth control. That happened to my late wife yet the drs still tried to say one of us was sleeping around. Some drs are real bastards trying to call you a liar, and basically say "well one of you cheated or you wouldn't have this". On to another Dr and it's "oh yeah your birth control caused your PID. The other drs were trying to cover their ass since the BC was implanted in their facility.

I had it at 14 and didn't know it. By the time I had it taken care of it was too late. It had caused scar tissue in my fallopian tubes which means the eggs couldn't get through. I never could have a baby because of it.

Thank you for your very informative channel. I wanted to be a doctor when I was a kid. But we were poor in a developing country. I became a Chemist with the help of relatives. I continued to read and self study medicine and the human anatomy. Because of that, I can understand and speak medical lingo. So thank you for your channel. My informative learning goes on.
I have a story about Chlamydia. One time I was in the 5th grade, and I went to the bathroom. After I went I had some really painful feeling in my urethra, I knew what it could’ve been because I used to do a lot of reasearch on sti’s. But I was too scared to tell anybody. So I went a long 3 more years feeling that pain on a weekly basis until I spoke up. I’m in the 9th grade now, and when I finally said something I got tested. Turns put it wasn’t no sti but it was urethritis(inflammation of the urethra). I feel a lot better now. This is why you speak up, don’t do the same mistake I did.

Back in like 2004 2005 a local high school had a huge outbreak of this. We had really bad sex ed and for a while I was convinced those kids were screwed for life. I was mad when I found out they could be cured both because purity culture mindsets and being lied to by my school.
Don't they learn about STI and sex in biology and combined science classes? How could they not know about STI's? I remember being freaked out about HIV when I first learnt about it in Grade 7, I wanted nothing to do people after that, I was super careful with my wounds too. @@BaDazai I went to a Catholic high school. Our sex ed was "if you have sex before marriage, you will get pregnant, you will get an sti, and you will probably die". We then got to draw balls out of a bag that had either "pregnancy" or the names of different STIs on them. A brief mention of sti symptoms to show us 'how serious' they are, no mention that most have treatments, no mention of testing, and certainly no mention of barrier protection.
Science lessons (in the UK) covers reproduction only (sperm + egg = foetus which becomes baby - here's a video of a woman giving birth, let's talk about genetics and move onto Mendel's peas....) Again, no mention of
sti's, no mention of barrier protection or other contraceptives. 🤷♀️

Isn't your curriculum the same nation wide, how were you passing your biology and science tests? There's multiple chapters on STI's and reproduction topics. There's no way anyone at your school passed those subjects with so much information missing. 😅

@@BaDazai I simplified reproduction explanation, mainly because the focus of the video was sexual health, not reproduction. And because I couldn't be asked to type it out.. we learnt about gametes and gamete production, and the division of a zygote into an embryo, the difference between fraternal and paternal twins, menstrual cycle, etc. But the actual act of conception was literally "sperm meets ovum in the fallopian tube, implantation in uterus, etc". Definitely no mention of the act of sex itself. (Or that non-intercourse sex can also lead to pregnancy)
15 years ago - sti's were definitely not in the (national) curriculum. 🤷♀️
And to complicate matters, different exam bodies cover slightly different areas - so while some exam bodies may have required the mention of a penis ejaculating sperm in terms of reproduction, the one my school opted for did not (Though we still needed to know that males produce sperm in the testes and this is part of semen, and females mature ovum in the ovaries) got full marks in biology - but I was also the child of doctors, and took on the (obviously unofficial) role of sexual health educator for my year - passing on everything the very helpful sex ed nurse at the youth centre told me... Including leaflets, barrier protection and details of where to get more, and how to get tested.
I also pointed out to my teachers that gay and lesbian people weren't gonna get pregnant from sex... That went down fantastically (not) 🤣

I had similar symptoms last year, and I went see the doc. He tested my urines for chlamydia trachomatis and gonorrhea.
Before the results came he gave me levofloxacin for about 1 week and the symptoms disappear. Both results came negative, and he told me he didn't know what it was for sure. In the end, I was pretty content with the result because it also solved my chronic diarrhea! :D
I just hope it won't have too much long term side effect.

I was a healthy athletic 28 yr old male given that antibiotic levaquin for a sinus infection. Within 4 days I could no longer walk my tendons were severely damaged, I had severe neuropathic pain all over my body, severe anxiety insomnia. I was an active hicker did atleast 20 miles on the weekends in the mountains. It took me 2 yrs to be able to walk around the block where I live, I lost my job and pretty much everything. My body would not digest food I couldn't take anything prescription drugs for pain or any symptoms bc it made me way worse bc of Central nervous system damage. It's been 6 yrs and I'm back to work still ha e to eat very healthy organic, still can't take any medicine or vitamins or some of my symptoms return. Just. Warning to you and anyone else be very careful with that class of drugs its rare but they have the ability to ruin lives. I may never get back to full health but I can atleast hold a job and hike again God is good 👍

A year ago my boyfriend told me he tested positive for chlamydia. I was so pissed! He told me he has no idea how he got it that he's not had sex with anybody else. But I thought this was an exclusively sexually transmitted disease? Anyway, I was due for my yearly pap smear anyway so I asked them to test me for everything LOL. Thankfully I had no chlamydia or any other STD. I don't know whether to believe or not. If anyone can give me information I'd appreciate it.
Also ladies I beg you to get your pap smears whenever they're recommended either it be every year or every 3 years. I didn't get one for 20 years and I ended up having abnormal cells. Had to get a leep procedure to get it cut off and it was cin3 precancerous cells. If I waited any longer it would have turned to cancer. Thankfully they were able to remove it with clear margins and my next pap smear came back normal. But please please get your pap smears. I don't know if you've done a video on the subject of cervical cancer / pap smears etc. I'm still watching through your videos LOL.

He may have had it since birth. It's possible to get it through the birth canal.

In the end, l was diagnosed withLupus Erythrymatosis, chemo, kidney failure, dialysis, l received a kidney transplant. I too was treated as if l were an untouchable. I used to get cold sores around my mouth and inside my nasal passage reguarly until i started taking zinc in maximum doses. Its been over a year now since ive had a cold sore. Id recommend zinc if you do get cold sores as it is definitely working for me. High strength dose,take the maximum amount for best outcome.
Actually you can get HSV 2 on your mouth as well just like you can get HSV 1 on your privates. A lot of people & patients get this confused & automatically assume HSV 1 is oral only & HSV 2 is genital. Not so.
