Quick, fast, and down and dirty information. You never cease to amaze me with your knowledge. I'm recovering from my second back surgery that I had a month and a half ago. But my goal is to go to one of your classes. I would love to actually do all four survival classes and your specialty classes. But I know I can't push it. They're big goals, but that's how you challenge yourself. Great video.
👍👍 Nice! That would be cool to make bunk bed or surely a pack frame something with these knots. I'm getting some ideas...I need to drag my bush crafty stuff outta the attic. 😎👍
I've been taught when making square lashings to always go on the inside of the previous turn. This is presumably to guarantee you dress things properly and keep the lashing tight
Hot tip, film how-to vids with the camera situated ‘in the first person’ so the camera is looking at the task from the same perspective you are looking at it. Looking at what you are doing with the camera in the second person perspective means that not only do we need to learn the techniques but also reverse them in our heads, corporalscorner is fantastic at this, he slowly does the technique with the camera nice and close to the work and directly over the work from the perspective of the person doing the work
The Eskimos started their lashings with an Eskimo Bowline, which was discovered when analyzing a 100+ year old ceremonial lashed gift sled from first contact with Europeans. It is a really nice way to start lashings. The Eskimos are insanely good with small cord techniques.
I was with on everything except the Diagonal Lashing our book in the scouting troop I work with says that lashing is only used when joining together at an angle like the two pole at the end of a lean-to shelter
When doing the finishing clove hitch, just start doing half hitches. After 2 half hitches, you'll have a clove hitch, but you won't have to break tension since half hitches can be done under load. You can still do another half hitch or two after that for security.
Perfect timing putting out this video! I saw the recent video showing the diamond hitch, which has inspired me to try my hand at making a ladder style pack frame. Looks like I now have all the info to start a weekend project!!! 👍
I want to make a large trellis out of bamboo stocks for my vegetable garden. I was thinking to make it with vertical and horizontal cross pieces. Should I use square lashing or diagonal lashing or a combination? I will probably lay it out on the driveway to put it together. I don’t want it to fall apart when I pick it up to move it. I’m pretty good at knot tying but I’m new to lashing. Also what kind of rope do you suggest I use?
Come out to Utah! brother we got outdoor Adventures here buddy ! Check out Unitas or manti la sal forests and others but those are my favs great video by the way... anyway you could do more cooking vids ?
I am a Christian prepper. I believe in Prayer, prepping, not panicking, proverbs 22:3 Luke 22:36 Matthew 24:9. I am looking for a group of like-minded people, I am a jack of most trades what I don't know I can learn.I do not read well, so I'm self-taught and most things on this list but I can be taught to do better. I'm good in the garden, good in the kitchen, good in the kennels and stalls, I enjoy chopping and splitting wood, hunting and processing meat. Plus I have quite a few tactical skills as well as supplies seeds and more. Definitely need to get to know each other.
It was there when I was in the BSA They either coined the term " wrap thrice- frap twice " or they stole it and preempted it for themselves. Got the merit badge for this 50 or so years ago. They probably don't do this anymore
*Hello everyone from Belarus. Great video, keep up the good work. I do it a little differently in my context, if you are interested you can take a look.*
My brother waited 25 years to tell me he saw a Sasquatch. This was not far from where we saw a grey thing float out in front of us. Lake DeGray, Arkansas 1991 Do you here of or see this stuff?
Trying not to sound like an ass, but what are the benefits of knowing these techniques as opposed to just doing a messier "wrap it until it feels strongly bound" method? the notching without frapping makes a lot of sense.
Dont want to have a messy knot that could come undone unintentionally or a knot that is near impossible to untie. Also if you know your knots itll help to save cordage and help you calculate footage required for the knot.
It'd be awesome if you made a playlist with all your videos on knots, latches, and hitches
DEFINITELY. Great Comment Wade.
I've been working with my scouts on lashings and this is great for them to see someone other than me in a Zoom meeting explaining them.
When ever I do square lashings I always like to wrap from inside to outside it looks cool when you need to do one with a bunch of wraps
Dave, your last few videos have been bringing back fond memories of earning my pioneering merit badge. Many thanks.
Ty sir. The start and finish off was my problem areas. The instruction was excellent.
Have you ever thought about doing a live Q&A? I have some questions and I'm sure many others have aswell. Still glad to see you out here educating us.

Great vid love watching them these will help shelter build alot!!👍👍
I personally don’t mind if you cover the basics a million times. Can watch it all over again. Maybe you could do a close up vid on making nets again?
Cool Thanks .

Thanks Dave! Perfectly demonstrated.
I really appreciate you making these videos, I learn something new every time.
directly to my knot playlist thanks for the videos love them

Good one. It’s going in my save file.

Great knot tying Knowledge Dave
I'm always leaning great things from ya Dave, and I appreciate it...
Nothing screams a "sorry" camp more than a gaggle of granny knots. LOL

Thanks for this great instructional video!

love these educational videos... cheers from Canada..
Thanks dude.
Thank you 👍
Thank you sir.
Good to see you teaching Boy Scout knots
Learned these 55 years ago
Dave: a square lash will always start with a clove hitch.
Me: how ya make a clove hitch? 🤦♂️
Dave: noob
Or... Dave: With line/cordage.
Thanks dave :)
Some how this video feels like it’s missing the end ........ Maybe

impressive
I live in Ohio and really want to attend your school.
Remember to pull the frappe out of it
Legit gooodness.

Where was this when I was in the Boy Scouts?

So if the wood does not have a notch I need to wrap it before and after I frap it?
Edit :*giggity* but is that correct?

Thanks Mr.Canterbury Love your stuff. 🔪
Id love to attend your School some time how much is it? 🍀 Boston Man Bushcraft 🍀
Kinda has a rhyme to it...just need the wrapping not the frappings🤔
I heard the youtube algorithm likes comments to snack on.

In my experience it is about efficiently using your cordage. In the woods it is easy to run out of rope.
Dont want to have a messy knot that could come undone unintentionally or a knot that is near impossible to untie. Also if you know your knots itll help to save cordage and help you calculate footage required for the knot.
First.
Thank you!
