I used to work for the company that did the scenic work for Anna and Elsa's Frozen Journey. I remember painting castle roofs and whatnot. and I especially remember the round ice staircase that Elsa stands on. It was in the warehouse for a very long time. our contract was only for this attraction and area of the park expansion.
I get the impression that Fantasy Springs was meant to be an extension to Tokyo Disneyland, but they realised that they need the capacity at DisneySEA more.
Definitely this. Thematically it fits Disneyland way better, but they needed to boost the attendance for DisneySea, as Disneyland is still their leading attraction
Well, there also has been the criticism by some that DisneySea had too few Disney characters in it. It basically started out with none, except The Little Mermaid and slowly introduced a few more, like the Finding Nemo ride.
We visited DisneySea for the first and so far only time, coincidentally, on the *opening day* of Fantasy Springs. But we weren't there for Fantasy Springs, it was just the best day that worked with our itinerary. So we dealt with the restricted access to Fantasy Springs and the great demand by... not going there. The whole park was new to us! It was great! Crowds were light, and we got some priority-access tickets from some other visitors who were leaving, so we managed to do a lot. DisneySea is a wonderful place. If we'd had a second day there we might have tried to do the new stuff. Re the isolation: when we were at DisneySea we did notice that it didn't even seem like Fantasy Springs existed, apart from the water pageant in the Mediterranean lagoon at the end of the day celebrating its opening. It wasn't obvious how one would even get to the area, it was so well-hidden. It's way in the back behind Lost River Delta and Arabian Coast, but that wasn't obvious to us.
it's what makes DisneySea so great. There are many "hidden" things that reward exploration. Like the whole Little Mermaid underground playground or big castle leonardo divinci area in the middle.
This is just one online opinion. But mine is Fantasy Springs is stunningly beautiful. And it’s stupid to think anything in Disney is perfect because it’s an unrealistic expectation. Fantasy Springs is a masterclass in theme park theming and the other Disney parks could only dream of being this magical and beautiful.
Frozen Journey was mind-blowing, rode it three times thanks to the vacation package. It does feel isolated and the sheer bizarre deserted nature of the queues does make you feel as if they are restricting the land to an unfair degree to push packages and hotel stays. Also I felt sick smelling the roast beef popcorn, can’t imagine actually trying it.
Not surprised. Tokyo Disney is my favorite theme park resort, to the extent that I no longer visit the American Disney parks. However, some of the newer additions contain baffling design decisions which make things feel a bit plastic or underbuilt compared to the more detailed areas right next to them. My favorite example is how Beauty and the Beast has an incredible facade and preshow, followed by a queue with badly scaled set pieces, high shelves with plastic pots and pans, and a static stove. But then the ride is fantastic-except none of the human animatronics have moving mouths. It’s a collection of odd design decisions, and I think Pooh has aged better.
@@whatafreakinusername Says somebody who's never been to the TDR. Fact is, the Tokyo parks are the best in the world and a huge part of that is the amazing guests and their genteel and considerate behaviour. No ghetto fist fights or slobs in wife beaters yelling at their kids. Gross.
I'm glad you finally went to Fantasy Springs. I always love your videos. Here and there I have had slightly different experiences, especially when it comes to the Disney characters. There are sooooo many there. In the morning they are always at the entrance at Happy Entry and throughout the day two princesses come to the Magic Rocks every 30 minutes. I have been there four times myself, including at the Grand Opening, and I have met so many princesses. The system for entering Fantasy Springs takes some getting used to, but it has to be regulated due to overcrowding. I was there at 5 a.m. at the Grand Opening and immediately got all the tickets I wanted for free and there were still plenty of DPA tickets left. But yes, you shouldn't be there an hour before opening, it can be more difficult then, but not impossible, as new tickets are constantly being added to the system throughout the day. The restaurants are also great and I have always been able to get a seat straight away, even spontaneously, and it was never fully booked. Here too, even though Rapunzel's and Frozen's restaurants each have over 600 seats, they have to set a limit, otherwise it would be overcrowded. What I do understand completely is the popcorn, I don't like it either, but the Japanese absolutely love it haha, and it's also a shame with the stupid thing from Frozen, as if it had really only been used as a photo backdrop and a toilet. As for the Rapunzel ride, I agree with you, a scene is simply missing and would have been so good for the ride. But it is magical. I spent two nights in the Fantasy Springs Hotel myself and had the Magic Unlimited pass. And yes, it is really expensive but brilliant, but it will be discontinued on March 31, 2025. No one knows yet whether the all the standby and DPA passes will also be abolished from April 1. We are waiting for this information here in Tokyo. I'm really excited to see what your hotel review says, I'm really looking forward to it because yes, the hotel is beautifully designed, it has a special entrance, but it has a lot of weaknesses because there's no pool, only one restaurant (I'm leaving out the one at the Grand Chateau) and it's harder to get a table. But I'm really excited and really looking forward to your video. Best wishes from Tokyo
These limited passes and entry are really necessary, otherwise it would be totally overcrowded and uncontrollable. I was there at the grand opening and got free passes and have been there 4 times since then and always got passes for everything I wanted for free. You just have to get up early and then everything runs smoothly. They will definitely have this system until April 2025. There may be a change after that, we are still waiting for more information here in Tokyo.
I decided to go to DisneySea again (from Australia) mostly because I wanted to see Fantasy Springs. I couldn't get a pass because I wasn't super early, so I missed out which left a really bad taste in my mouth. And both their parks are way overbooked most days. DisneySea was much more enjoyable when I managed to go on a quieter day last year. It's kind of put me off Disney Tokyo. I have to say the sweet-flavoured popcorn at other stalls is to die for. I was looking forward to that again.
@@Jonathanest90s You shouldn't have to do that though. It takes the fun ou of what is meant o be a park that (and I can't stress this following point enough) rewards exploration, more so than the typical American parks I'd argue. If we even take an opening area, Arabian Coast, apparentl you can spend hours in there alone.
Me and my husband were just here last week. Maybe I had rose colored glasses on my taste buds, but we both actually liked the popcorn. 😂 The land blew me away but also but quite the dent in our wallet since we had to book the vacation package in order to experience all of the attractions.
From what I have seen it is beautiful I love all the new fountains Disney doesn't what to spent this much time and effort into any park expansion in the us
Fantasy Springs is basically a mini 3rd Park , but as said in the video , can’t justify charging a ticket just for that mini land , so it was attached to the SEA park, in order to get more visits, it honestly feels something that belongs to Tokyo Disneyland.
I'd still pick the original Peter Pan's flight over this new ride. I just don't find screens or cgi to be charming or whimsical in the way that miniature models are. Newer technology isn't always a good thing
I have similar feelings about the ancient but still incredibly effective and simple peppers ghost effect with physical sets it can look spectacular and way more realistic than any screen
Yes it is the most expensive expansion yet from a Disney park, but Tokyo Disney land and Sea aren’t owned by Disney. They are licensed by Oriental Land Company and they are not afraid of spending money on high quality stuff. So it’s funny in my opinion when people think of it as their favorite Disney park when it’s the only one not owned and operated by Disney themselves.
OLC put the customer and the customer experience first. whereas TWDC execs are worried about their bonuses and squeezing everything they can out of the customer *looks at bob iger*
Spiderman at IoA was the first 3D motion simulator dark ride I experienced and so far nothing has beaten it, and that was in 1999. I'm surprised Disney cannot surpass this given the advancement in technology.
I once had dinner at Club 33 in Disneyland with a very famous Imagineer who knew I was travelling on (from Australia) to Orlando. He told me, "You HAVE TO ride Spiderman at IOA. It's better than ANYTHING we've ever done!"
@@Jonathanest90s How is that a bad take? It's a different take for sure and has a story to go with it. Meanwhile the one you said about Disney animation, you stopped short. This, to me, gives the impression of a synic and someone who can't appreciate stories or memories from others. Just because it can't be videoed, doesn't mean it's not real. I know this how? Because I'm a blind person, I don't take photos ver often without help, so I'm left with either writing text-based comments or, perhaps, videoing which is somehing I would like to get into eventually.
@@tulinfirenze1990 Hay there, you mentioned Australia, I... need to give a heads up this reply's gonna be a big big read for you it's a long one, as in, very long. So, as I say, I'm actually a totally blind person, and, since you menioned Australia, well, I have a perspective on the Australian program Bluey. To start off, and I never thought I'd be saying this, even though I am a fully grown adult I found the recent special, called The Sign, which happened in April, to actually legit be one of my favourite pieces of media of all time. It took me quite a while to reach the conclusion though, around seven watches with a mixture of audio descriptions on and off, it's not just oh hay let's watch. I got through Bluey before the end of Season 3 so I was ready for it, so I was a bit hyped sure, but I had my reservations, how can a 9 minute show be turned into a 30 or so minute special, and I came away from my first watch of the Sign being effected so much that I can very specifically remember the state I was in: I used seven tissues during the last few scenes. I also know for a fact I was not rocking backwards and forward either which can sometimes happen if I'm very excited, but it was like my brain was in another, different, state, like it was... hyper aware or something. It was really odd and it's only happened with a select few pieces of media. I'll get onto those in a second, but, I wasn't entirely sure what was happening after my first watch, so I did another watch. What I mean here, was, is my brain going the way I think i is, with this episode, and after a few watches in the week, it really was, my only conclusion was I had to put it on my peek media tier. Here's what I mean by a long comment because I'm about to explain what other things caused this state of mine. To give an idea of where I put this, it's up there with The Mandalorian Season 2's last episode in my own mind, and Spider-man No Way Home, and a very specific season of Transformers Prime which is season 2, and an iOS game called A Dark Room which had such a commitment to an accessibility mode the likes I've never experienced before or since: the developer went so far to play through his game with his own phone screen off. There were little things in there for the blind as well to help with law and there is a slightly different endgame but what he did was make that endgame have loads of textual descriptions going on and speaking, until your character makes it out alive, and it was very special and you think it's done and then a special message pops up especially for the blind community players, annoyingly I can't remember what it said but my gosh talk about going the extra mile when he didn't have to. As for No Way Home I remember just coming out feeling very, very satisfied, and then for Mandalorian season 2, there was a sense of oh my gosh did they just do... that, but what was so weird wsa he description track, at least the initial one, didn't fully point out the cignificance of what was happening. It wasn't until later I found out about Luke Skywalker. The audio description track, which I think was absolutely amazing by the way, was calling him "The Jedi", and just that, no name drop. This actually got re-done a few weeks later with the name drop! So those whole few weeks were quite the blast, and the name drop actually threw me a bit. I was like hang on didn't that used to say The Jedi? So my mind got quite blown. But the thing I gotta talk about is Transformers Prime season 2, that was the thing that caused my mind to have this... state in the firstplace. I don't remember what year I watched it though, but, I do remember the outcome, I am going to go so far to say that I, legit, think the reaction I had to season 2 specifically, actually changed my brain. It was like my brain couldn't, quite, comprehend how it was feeling, and I could not speak for around 10 minutes. Bluey's The Sign did something similar but I recovered quicker although all I could say was wow. With Transformers Prime, I actually had to turn off my device and physically could not speak, just... wait there. I was on holiday at the time so I couldn't really let out my feelings around me in case I woke anyone up as I was lying on a beach. But my brain was really processing the season's ending proper, and it caused this weird, extra tier of media to be added and from there, I've developed a top 5, and oddly, I think The Sign might be the fifth. Below this tier, we've got media that knows what it wants to be and rund with it, and that contains more things than I can count now. Theme park content, however, I do find hard to place, I just enjoy it. The soundscapes, the atmosphere. I really like the way that Japan's Super Nintendo World works, you've got a sort of entrance thing with it's own music that you go through, and then there's more music as you get closer and then an 8-bit version of that theme as well, then the warp pipe which sometimes makes it's sound although I don't know if it does tha as much, and then you're in. It's like a sort of epilogue to the whole experience. Holliwood misses out on the very first thing you hear, which is a special piece of music for the walkway. The first thing you hear in HOlliwood, is the second piece of music you hear in Japan's version, the version that has an orchestra and 8-bit theme playing at the same time. But, in Japan, there's a whole bit of music before you get to that point. I'm sorry, I'm now rambling and getting into all sorts of content. I hope I haven't annoyed you and if I have, I'm sorry, I know I write a lot. But, yep, peek tier with The Sign and Transformers Prime and such, I think it's about the overall presentation of the projects. I don't know how to, fully, explain it. For Bluey I think it was the way The Sign's storytelling and music worked, and Transformers Prime has a similar thing but over a much bigger period and a very different story of course. Trouble is, to fully explain why I'm on about that specific season of Prime, I'd have to spoil it for you. I also don't know how much you know about Bluey so I don't know what more to say, so for now, what I'll do I think, is wait for you to reply and let me know what you want me to do next, if anything, or just let you put your own perspective or any questions for me before I continue. The thing is we're eventually going to ahve to take it back to the parks which I'll be able to do as well, but right now I'm taking this all over the place, so I'd rather wait for a reply first, as it might help guide me as well. I'm up for you asking me any questions, I don't know if I can promise a short answer or not though. If needed, I can try, but I do express myself especially with stuff like this, with longer comments as I get very, very excited and happy.
we were at FS for 2 days with the vac pack tickets and stayed the at the hotel, i agree the popcorn is no good, but they can easily swap that out, the same with the food at lookoutcookout, But the peter pan ride was AWESOME, we went 9 times, my family and I coudlnt get enough, (just ask to sit in front)...tangled was short, the restaurant is okay, as for the elsa ride, it was another AMAZING ride and the food is okay too....the hotel is cool inside, but kinda boring outside. 16:02 what are you talking about? we met anna and elsa on both days
I’m visiting DisneySea in a few weeks time, and I’m worried SICK about Fantasy Springs. I can’t imagine going to DisneySea without stepping foot in this gorgeous land…
Just get the DPA for anything available after entering the park. Also recommend refreshing the standby pass page. a lot of people give up around 3PM〜4PM and you'll get to line up frozen ride after they cancel.
don't stress. do your hwk on how to get dpa or standby passes, what time to refresh app to buy DPA and/or standby and what time to actually get in line to the park to get a standby reservation. everyone in here is crying they didn't get to go into fantasy springs when i (and many other friends that went at different times over the past several months) had ZERO issues getting in and going on everything. just took a little bit of homework and planning before hand.
I’m Japanese. I’m using a translator, so please forgive me for being unnatural. I visit Tokyo Disneyland and Sea once a month. If you want to make sure you experience Fantasy Springs, you need to be in line at least at 7 a.m. And to get into Fantasy Springs, you’ll need to get either a paid Disney Premier Access or a free standby pass to get the right to line up for the attraction. Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey cannot be guaranteed without lining up at 6 a.m. at the latest. Also, hotel guests enter the park earlier than regular guests, so Disney Premier access to Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey is almost taken away by them. Therefore, if you want to experience Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey at the general admission, you should check the status of the issuance of standbypass immediately after admission. Attractions other than Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Journey will almost certainly get a pass if they line up at 7 a.m. And if you want to use a restaurant in Fantasy Springs, you will need a pass for one of the attractions. It is only available during the Fantasy Springs entrance hours listed on the attraction’s path. All Fantasy Springs restaurants are mobile orders only from the Tokyo Disney Resort app. Also, once you leave Fantasy Springs, you cannot re-enter. I’ll answer if there’s anything I don’t understand. I hope you have a great trip!
Lots of fair points in this vid, but just have to point out that "no characters in Fantasy Springs" is not true. Characters do regular meet n greets next to their respective springs.
Interesting, thanks for letting us know. We must have gotten really unlucky because across 4 days in the land two in July and two in October I haven't seen a character once! - Luke
Lots of the park is developed around for and against Disney Otaku. You see them in Sea and Tokyo Disneyland. They often are there to do one or two things and thats it. So them having the newer things with passes makes sense to stop those people from doing things over and over again. Also I dont know if you went during halloween or during a special event but I feel like you were. I could see various cosplayers from Twisted Wonderland and other Disney properties. It would be hard to hold entertainment in a character themed areas while letting cosplayers run about. I mean that seriously can cause confusion. I would also assume that entertainment will come but it may not be up to the Tokyo Disney Sea Standards. Give the park another 1.5 years and if its the same id would 100% agree with its shortfalls. Also Umami popcorn is gross i agree but my friend Ami love that popcorn
Was just at Tokyo Disney 2 weeks ago. Fantasy Springs rides are awesome, Tokyo Disney Sea is the most immersive and beautiful Disney park, each port is distinct and so detailed. But outside of the Fantasy Springs rides, the rides at Disney Sea were not all that exciting to me. The main attractions Soarin, Tower of Terror and Toy Story Mania are clones of their US versions but always have extremely long lines in Tokyo. While Soarin and Tower of Terror have cool pre-shows, Tower of Terror is made less thrilling with a shoulder belt which removes any airtime you get. Indiana Jones is a clone of Disneyland. The unique rides, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was hard to see anything and fairly boring. Raging Spirits felt like a kiddie coaster with a loop thrown in to make it seem thrilling. Sinbad was good, Aquatopia was cool. Journey to the Center of the Earth was under refurbishment when I was there so I didn't get to experience it. Big Band Beat was a great show though. I think part of the issue is its just too crowded with not enough things to do resulting in long lines for everything. Fantasy Springs felt ok because they are controlling capacity into the land for now, but starting in April 2025 the land will be open to everyone and it will probably be mobbed. The Fantasy Springs rides: Frozen is amazing, Peter Pan was a lot of fun, Tangled was too short and where is Mother Gothel? Tinker Bell was a decent filler ride. Best restaurant was Snuggly Duckling. The food at the Frozen restaurant was not good imho. Call me crazy but Disney Sea overall looks amazing, but Fantasy Springs seemed like the most boring area outside of the awesome rides. I just wish there were better rides outside of Fantasy Springs. I do wish Disney would invest in their parks the way OLC has though, even paying for park maintenance the way OLC does would make the American Disney parks so much better. Not sure I'd personally call Disney Sea the best Disney park, but it is definitely the most beautiful and immersive park!
@ I did mention the preshow is different, but you're right I forgot to mention the beginning of the ride is different as well. It was worth riding once to see the differences, but the actual ride part itself is not really different other than it being less thrilling because of the shoulder belt. Personally, I prefer the version in Disney World, the Twilight Zone theming is better and that version of the ride is a little different because of the trackless part where the elevator actually moves across to the drop shaft.
Roasted beef popcorn is actually fantastic and beloved by us, Japanese. You just don't have the right sense of taste to enjoy it since you are a gaijin
@@justinmiller2655 Your nose are just not used to tbat kind of smell. For instance, just because you don't like the smell of something, it doesn't mean the majority of locals hate the smell as well
I have a feeling the ride system of Peter Pan's flight was supposed to be similar to the planned Avengers ride in DCA, but was cancelled due to budget cuts/technical issues. We'll likely see the same thing happening with the new DCA Avengers ride
17:50 this has been my thought from the announcement of the land. Three Fantasy Land IPs placed in the traditionally more “mature” theme park. It’s not even another “Port”, just three properties that are tangibly related to water. I remember the rumours of Tokyo DisneyAir with its revolutionary vertical theme park design 😢.
I agree with your opinion on Fantasy Springs not really feeling like Tokyo DisneySea. It's vastly different when compared to the rest of the park. The rest of the park is connected in one way or another, whether it's through the waterways, its theming, its offerings, or its stories. Sea was designed to cater to an older demographic, so rides in the main park are more intense, from Tower of Terror to Journey to the Center of the Earth to Indie. Aside from Mermaid Lagoon, the other lands are based on real-world ports and areas, with attractions and stories that are tastefully blended into these areas; some stories are even connected lore-wise to other attractions. Theme-wise, there's a visual nautical element around the main park and its buildings has a historical vibe to them that makes them feel as if they were there for a long time. Even Hotel MiraCosta has a facade made of various buildings to make it feel less like a single structure and more like a town that could exist somewhere in Italy. FS does the opposite of all of this. It's tucked away, its landscape is carefully manicured, its colors are vibrant, its theme expresses magic more than it does exploration or adventure. The hotel is a giant uniform structure with visual parts of the facade feeling lackluster (literally just a flat wall with no details whatsoever). The land as a whole doesn't integrate itself into the park in any way, and story-wise it arguably doesn't integrate the mini-lands together either. Why and how did the spirit choose to specifically bring Arendelle, Neverland, and Corona together? How is the hotel involved in the story? How is the spring connected to the rest of DisneySea? I often compare Sea to Epcot's world showcase - a chance to explore the real world through Disney storytelling. Imo, FS would've fit so much better as an expansion to Tokyo Disneyland's Fantasyland - it's practically in the name. A collection of Disney animation stories works better with other Disney animation stories. But right now, it feels like an attempt to make Sea more kid-friendly by slapping more IP in the park, much like what they're doing to Epcot.
Thank you for this honest review! We just got back from a trip to Japan where we did 3 days of the Disney Tokyo Resort (two days DisneySea and one day at Tokyo Disneyland). We decided to book a vacation package for two days staying one night at the Miracosta DisneySea Hotel and two nights at the Nikon hotel close-by. We just didn't want to risk not being able to ride any of the rides at Fantasy Springs. After two days of DisneySea with one being Halloween we can say that it is not necessary to book the vacation package since we were able to do most things at Fantasy Springs the first day without the package. We did stood TWO HOURS in the pouring rain in the morning before the park opened to be able to get the standby tickets. So keep that in mind when you make your decision. I really enjoyed all the rides but agree with all your points. Especially when you look at the grand scale of the different ports at DisneySea you can feel that Fantasy Springs misses space where you can explore. The biggest comparison which makes the difference in design and details painstakingly clear are the two ships in the park. The Jolly Roger (Hook's pirate ship) at Fantasy Springs is a joke compared to the Galleon that lays in front of the Mediterranean Harbor fortress at the centre of DisneySea. The Galleon is an interactive crawl-through experience with so many details, making you feel like you are visiting an actual ship. The Jolly Roger has only an outside level with a few cartoonesk props. I understand that this style should be more cartoony because of the way the story of Peter Pan and the attraction are portrayed but it lacks the feeling of adventure and exploration, the key ingredients of DisneySea. When you walk through the other ports of the theme park you can look in any direction and you will be completely immersed into the story that they are telling you. Even if you see the Tower of Terror in the distance, it makes sense because the rest of the area fits that storyline. At Fantasy Springs you can see the Frozen castle from many locations at Peter Pan or the Rapunzel area + there is always the Fantasy Springs Hotel that just looks like a big box with extremely big "details" glooming over the area. And another thing which a lot op people prob don't agree with: I think the fairytale springs look extremely fake with all the fake greenery and flowers that are glued on top of it. It looks cheap and fits better in a theme park in China or Las Vegas. Why isn't it possible to use real plants and flowers, making you feel like visiting an actual spring? I think that is my main problem with the Fantasy Springs area: It doesn't do a good job in creating an alternate reality, where in the rest of the DisneySea park, I feel transported to the Lost River Delta or a mysterious crater of a volcano. DisneySea will stay the best theme park in the world but I hope Fantasy Springs will become the connection portal between the two parks so we can call Fantasy Springs what it is: not a DisneySea port but an extension of Fantasyland.
I’ll be going in March next year, hopefully after we can book Fantasy Springs hotel. I’m sure the horrible system they have in place currently is just because of the popularity since opening. From April 1st they’ll be changing the way you can enter FS but they haven’t mentioned what yet.
Exactly. I don't know if it helps that the area is tucked in the back, and I'd argue it's important to have characters and entertainment, but hopefully that can come in the future.
@@Jonathanest90s Indeed. What are your thoughts on the pass though? As for me I love the audio and such around the area, and am hoping to grab the cd albums. I've got one of them but am waiting for the other one. I live very far away from Tokyo sadly so I won't get to go for several years.
Tokyo Disney is infamous for its huge range of popcorn flavours, they were gonna mess up eventually. I have only been to Hong Kong Disney, and I will vouch for their world of frozen. When I rode the frozen ever after, our group had Elsa her self greet us as we were getting off.
simple. because of land layout, space, and where everything sits. they won't replace fantasy land as that would completely shut down the main hub are of the park. the size and scale of fantasy springs doesn't "fit" in fantasyland as a replacement.
@@ryanleeuwis1602 again. logistics, location of FS and where the hotel needs to sit, backstage access etc etc etc. go look at the whole area on google maps. if you don't understand then i dont know what to tell you.
Post-pandemic the resort has drastically reduced their entertainment. Even until now it's not back to what it was before. But regarding the entry to the land, it's reported that it'll be open to the public on March 2025 upon the retirement of the Fantasy Springs Pass.
I still think an AVATAR The Way of Water land would've been better suited for the expansion plot, and would be more cohesive with the theme Disney SEA overall.
I was just there and it’s one of the best lands I’ve ever been in any Disney Park and you call it “not perfect”?! This is perfectly fine the way it is.
I think its because Fantasy Springs itself is surrounded by what some might consider the best of the best. Any issues the Springs have (even minor ones) will inevitably stick out like a sore thumb. The quality standard over at Disneysea is an incredibly challenging point to meet
My wife and I went back in September with a Vacation Package and were blown away by DisneySea but Fantasy Springs was lower on our list of things we loved about the park. The frozen ride is incredible and enjoyed the frozen restaurant. Peter Pan was a huge disappointment and made us both motion sick. We did like Rapunzel but was way too short. My wife loved the tinker bell ride and great for kids. Our second day at DisneySea we never went back to Fantasy Springs since it was so far back of the park and wanted to enjoy the main part of the park
Fantasy Spring would’ve been a Better Expansion for Tokyo Disneyland than DisneySea because that way Fantasyland can be more detailed by having the Alice in Wonderland E-Ticket Dark Ride and Moving Its a Small World to Tomorrowland which makes more sense than in Fantasyland!
the problem is the land layout and space OLC / wdi has to work with. SEA made more sense logistically. OLC wasn't trying to treat SEA as a 2nd rate theme park like USA disney does to DCA in the west coast or epcot , hollywood studios, or animal kingdom in the east coast.
Tokyo can keep the rides for all I care, cause you know how American Disney likes cutting corners. Why couldn’t Disney sell their American parks to the Oriental Land Comapny?
It's insane to me that Disney World sees the attendance it currently gets when they haven't offered a fair product stateside at least since the early 2010s before further rampant IP-ism destroyed all of the cohesive theming within their parks and before they hiked up ticket prices to their current obscene levels. We should be getting new rides like these on a yearly basis, hell- any of their parks stateside could use the massive boost in capacity. However it seems Disney adults stateside will continue supporting the company financially no matter what happens and no matter how cheap and corporate their parks become so they have had little incentive to improve the product they put out. Hoping that Universal's epic Universe causes the entire country at large to realize how shitty Disney has become.
The Peter Pan ride needed to be the greatest dark ride ever created! A giant physical pirates ship set with animatronics! Flying over the neverland island. Instead we got trash tv screens!
I just got back from Japan (Tokyo Disneyland was the last park I needed to complete the set) and between this review and the Hotel review you just posted, I feel like you kinda agree with the premise that Disney really is making things difficult for the average “guest” but you don’t want to fully commit to saying it strongly (which is fair enough given your job!). I’ve never been more disappointed coming back from a Disney park and this is TOKYO for heavens sake, the pinnacle of Disney parks. The effort to get into Fantasy Springs gives you a bad impression to begin with and that makes you look at every minor thing that’s not right in greater detail. It’s only going to get worse. Oh, and that popcorn flavour 🤮
You've nailed the biggest problem that I have with Fantasy Springs. It just seems so disconnected from the rest of the park, physically and thematically. Part of this is that long path to even get to the entrance. Why didn't they build one of the mini-lands in that area behind the Arabian Coast? Tangled is NOT being treated equally, so instead of shoving it in with two larger lands, why not just shove it into an area that would better hide a long, boring walk? But my bigger problem is DisneySea has mostly been about Ports thematically linked to the real world. And now there's a big ol' Fantasyland in the back. Thankfully, it's behind a bridge - with those cheap-looking "springs" all around... UGH - but it's still such a needle scratch. The worst thing is they already have a thematically-disconnected land in the vicinity of the volcano and this expansion could have fixed that! Mermaid Lagoon would be fine in a different park, but it should not be in this park, sandwiched between the Arabian Coast and Lost Delta lands. I honestly don't know why Mermaid Lagoon was never an option for Arendelle. The building here is about the same size as the Frozen ride building and there's actually more land here than what it's using in Fantasy Springs. And that doesn't include the underused Hangar Stage, which could have housed a much-needed Frozen show. Based on a real place, Arendelle would fit in far better with the other lands. This would have allowed them to move the Lagoon to Fantasy Springs and add the long-rumored Peter Pan-style version of the Little Mermaid they wanted to add for capacity purposes. Personally, I would've held off on Tangled and built it behind the Forest Theatre in Disneyland. While Beauty & the Beast is definitely French, the Theatre is an obvious nod to Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, so they're clearly going for a more "European" feel for the "Fantasyland Forest". (Also, one of the interior tapestries does feature Maximus.) Then I would've kept the Fantasy Springs focus on two lands - Neverland and Mermaid Lagoon - completely jettisoning the stupid Springs theming. In fact, I would've found a way to build the dark rides on the volcano side of the bridge, or at least the entrances, and keep all the kiddie rides on the other side of the bridge. Or London before the bridge - I'd bring Peter Pan over and put something else in its current building - with Neverland on the other side, and then another "bridge" with Ariel's Kiddie Lagoon on the other side of that. The park needs a Fantasyland area, it just doesn't need it smack dab in the middle of the park.
I appreciate your work and your videos are awesome but I feel this particular one is clutching at straws. You can't fault it... And the two comments about Frozen- Impossible to fault it as well!
Fantasy Springs is gatekeeping at its finest I swear, I remember when we went in mid August we had to spend hours just trying to get those stupid standby passes to get on the rides even tho they where showing low wait times, on the last day I really wanted to check out the hotel they didn’t even let us take a peek without having a hotel room, I even asked the lady at the gate if I can even go up to one of the fountains to take a picture and she said no, like I get it your not supposed to let us “normies” inside without spending $2000 (I may be being over dramatic but I swear there not cheap) on a room and no amenities but come on it’s on the outside of the building (yes I’m still salty about that)
Had the same experience during my first trip to WDW in October 2001. We spent 23 nights off property and part of that time was dedicated to visiting all the resorts. Unfortunately due to 9/11, only resort guests could come and go. I was super pissed. Cut ahead to my next trip to WDW (from Australia) in 2022 and Covid was happening. Some people were saying only resort guests could go to the hotels - I was like F**K THAT! You're not getting me again, you bastards!!!!
the exclusive to hotel visit to hotel guests only is only during the initial launch / grand opening period. it'll go back to open to everyone in due time. same with fantasy springs. it use to be reservation or have a dpa or standby reservation only to get in but they're lifting that soon.
Only thing I didn’t like on the frozen ride is the ceiling. There has to be a better way to theme it, make it look like a night-sky or something like that.
Fantasy Springs sounds like a casino - oh wait it is. But for an overlaying theme - Disney has missed it - so it is a handful of Fantasyland attractions that would have complimented Fantasyland better - but this "land" seems to lack one unifying theme to ties all these attractions together. Perhaps water could have visually flowed through all or one central harbor could have anchored them. The Scandinavian harbor may have been a better overall theme ... and Little Mermaid is also of Danish origins. All of these rides seem to be super-sized Fantasyland dark rides - Is bigger better or does the smaller scale of the original attraction tell a story more effectively. Having a collection of attractions of various ticket levels and cost may lead to a greater density and depth of experiences. Great video!
Really getting tired of this whole "reservation" system just to go do something that for all intents and purposes is part of the price of admission when getting into the park. See this with all virtual queues at Disneyland for quite literally every new or recently refurbished ride, saw this with Super Nintendo Land (at least in the US) need to "win" a spot just to enter, saw this with Galaxy's edge in that again you had to "win" a spot to enter the land when it opened, then they transitioned into a virtual queue. What happened to letting the chips fall where they may and if it's super crowded because everyone wants to go there, then it's a super crowded day. If I pay $150 to enter a theme park, I should be able to make the adult choice or not if I want to wait in line for 4 hours to ride something, or more to point a bunch of people waiting 4 hours won't be crowding other lines in the park making those lines shorter.
I was there last week, my last Disney Park in the world to visit. I visited them all. Oh boy I was disappointed by my Disney Experience in Tokyo DisneySea. I spent all day to get a pass for the Disney Frozen ride, I was waiting 3 hours in front of the Frozen ride, tried to get a pass all day, even buying one, but no luck. I got so so frustrated, travelled all from Europe to get on that ride. Being on my phone all day to get passes for the lands and attractions ruined my whole experience. Really disappointed.
you don't need to stand in front of the ride to buy a pass. did you research prior to going to fantasy springs? there's a few key ways to get the passes to get onto the rides w/o issue. i had zero problems getting passes on multiple days i was at fantasy springs and i didn't have to be on my phone all day.
Did you arrive earlier? No? There’s your problem. I got there almost two hours before the park opened and I got my Frozen Standby 15 mins before the park officially opened.
I normally enjoy your insight and videos on things but this review video is wayyy off. I went to TDR and experienced fantasy springs the week right after they opened . My kid and I had a fantastic time . Sure everything isn’t perfect but overall it’s a great experience. Your issues with your experience sounds like a lack of research and poor planning on your part on many levels. You seem to forget that TDR is visited by locals as the main customer base in the majority so the food , etc is catered to their tastes, not you or I. Mobile ordering has been a thing even in the us parks for a long time now to help the staff and workers accommodate the traffic. You need to do better.
go experience it in person. they actually did a great job given the circumstances they had to work with. it's not perfect by any means but it's leagues better than anything we are getting stateside.
You are so wrong about your bad statement. You clearly never been there. It’s actually well made and you are being delusional about it. Delete your comment.
Pictures and reviews don’t do justice to the land. It’s a must see in person and a testament to what can be done when imagineers are given full budgets. I was just there in October and was left embarrassed with what we receive at the fully owned Disney parks. Time will tell if Disney is able to recreate what they do at Tokyo in their parks. Not impressed with Disneyland Paris additions and ripping out Rivers of America for cars….
Have you actually paid attention to the different musical orchestrations? It's not the same recordigns or even tracks as the film. Very different musical arrangements overall, especially I See The Light.
A very nitpicky review, finding disgusting a flavour designed for an asian public, and the difficulty to enter in a brand new ultra requested theme park area. Tokio is renowned for its organization and when the area lost is brand new appealing, will be "normal" to access. For me it is not so interesting at all, tired from Frozen, don't care about Tangled or Peter Pan.. but I think Oriental Land Company has done a beautiful purchase here and adds a lot in the extremely beautiful DisneySea.
I found it pretty underwhelming honestly. Been to most the Disney parks in the world and it really doesn’t live up to the Disney Sea brand. Also not being able to access it with your regular ticket is really harming my overall opinion. Had to fork out another $20 each time we wanted to ride an attraction. Not to mention it’s like gambling to try to get on one.
What the hell are you talking about? Peter Pan is amazing. Who cares about the small city scape. You are literally sucked into the world of Peter Pan and it lasts a long time. Songs are used amazingly. I don’t even like the movie that much. It’s close to Beauty and Beast ride and so smooth and the screens are beautiful.
@@jasonwei_au The Imagineers refer to a dark ride that goes through the story sequentially as a "book report ride". Think like the Fantasyland dark rides at DL that take you quickly through the story.
Ah, it's a very real term that they didn't invent. People are constantly saying that Tiana should have been a "book report attraction" and not a new story. Get with the times grandma. 🙄
The biggest flaw is the Peter Pan ride! What about absolutely awful attraction! I was expecting a classic flying style ride plussed only how Japan can plus rides. Instead we got a cheap garbage all screen based ride. What a disappointment
The volcano doesn’t tie into Cape Cod, the American Waterfront, Arabian Coast or the Grotto. What is this review? It’s just bad. Does Galaxys Edge get negative points for not seeing the castle at Disneyland CA? Or tower of terror at WDW? We get it, you like dark rides and everything else is subpar. Terrible review. Great addition.
We went to USJ and Super Mario World instead and will probably be going back for Doney Kong Country. Haven't been to Tokyo Disney and I probably will never will go.
This would be a mistake. Tokyo Disney is by far the best Disney park in the world, the US ones don't even come close, while Universal is pretty much the same level of quality everywhere.
@@RuffyDMwhat is irrelevant and silly is going to one of the most fascinating and beautiful counties in the world and then arguing over what gaijin amusement park you are going to.
You’re missing out! There are a list of considerations to avoid crowds, but that’s just because Japan is on a different school schedule. I love TDR and USJ for different reasons.
The hotel is an absolute abomination. 😀 For us Peter Pan was a #1 attraction. The Frozen one is way too sterile, soulless and boring in comparison. Also your nitpicking about visible screen edges in Peter Pan (which are actually perfectly blended), but ignoring huge industrial looking ceilings in Frozen is a little bit baffling.
You guys did a wonderful job with Frozen.
Wow! Very cool!
I get the impression that Fantasy Springs was meant to be an extension to Tokyo Disneyland, but they realised that they need the capacity at DisneySEA more.
ToonTown is practically right behind it
Definitely this.
@@EspenSGX But that also was criticized from the other perspective. The IP-ification of DisneySea is a controversial topic amongst enthusiasts, lol
Last week when i went there were characters doing meet and greet. Frozen ride was fantastic
Tokyo's Frozen ride is not only the best version of them all, but quite possibly a contender for best ride of all of Tokyo disney.
I still love my Disneyland.
Unless you live in Japan, it seems a bit silly, even petty, to skip over all six Disney parks in America just because you like TDR the best.
@@whatafreakinusernameUnless you regularly travel for work and simply don’t need the American ones anymore

Best wishes from Tokyo
someone actually leaving a proper, well thought out comment. thank you.
@mike3889 awwwh 🥰💕💖💕 thank you so much 💖💕 i try my best to bring all my experiences in one short comment, but not in a bad way 💖💕
No way this dude called Fantasy Springs "not perfect" when he called Ghibl-mid Park "perfection"
This review is bad
It's so beautiful. The major flaw right now is that you can't line up without an online pass, even for standby
That’s one criticism that I do agree with
Because of its popularity, TDR needs crowd control. They are known for offline queue and reservation after they expired the printed fast pass.
That's not a flaw, that's a feature. Otherwise there might not even space to walk comfortably in the area
@sizanix it's a flaw if I'm in the area already, but can't go on the 5 minute line because I don't have a stand by reservation
We just got back from TDR and there were several characters roaming around Fantasy Springs (I saw Aurora and Anna).
Corrections, they do have characters walk around the springs area at some point, tho I'm not really sure if they're still doing it now
@arienouviolet they do. I was alredy 4 times in Fantasy Springs and always there are there many many times
That hotel is incredible. Possible the best Disney Hotel.
It’s your own fault for not looking up before going in.
@@jukesy1992then who’s going to deal with the crowds? You?
@@Jonathanest90s It's a theme park, surely crowds are par for the course?
Me and my husband were just here last week. Maybe I had rose colored glasses on my taste buds, but we both actually liked the popcorn. 😂 The land blew me away but also but quite the dent in our wallet since we had to book the vacation package in order to experience all of the attractions.
From what I have seen it is beautiful
I love all the new fountains
Disney doesn't what to spent this much time and effort into any park expansion in the us
LOL, I kinda liked the popcorn! It gave me that 'Violet from Willy Wonka' experience I never knew could exist IRL.
Fantasy Springs is basically a mini 3rd Park , but as said in the video , can’t justify charging a ticket just for that mini land , so it was attached to the SEA park, in order to get more visits, it honestly feels something that belongs to Tokyo Disneyland.
Na, it suits fine in Tokyo DisneySea.
Super looking forward to the upcoming Fantasy Springs Hotel review from you guys 👀👀 incredible you got to stay there!!
I'd still pick the original Peter Pan's flight over this new ride. I just don't find screens or cgi to be charming or whimsical in the way that miniature models are. Newer technology isn't always a good thing
I have similar feelings about the ancient but still incredibly effective and simple peppers ghost effect with physical sets it can look spectacular and way more realistic than any screen
nah old peter pan is lame. Even ET is so much better
You are wrong
I never thought i would say it but the frozen ride easily looks the best imo
Yes it is the most expensive expansion yet from a Disney park, but Tokyo Disney land and Sea aren’t owned by Disney. They are licensed by Oriental Land Company and they are not afraid of spending money on high quality stuff. So it’s funny in my opinion when people think of it as their favorite Disney park when it’s the only one not owned and operated by Disney themselves.
Imagine if OLC had all the space Disney has at their disposal at WDW.
Its still Disney because of the license and property and training. OLC couldn’t do it alone
OLC put the customer and the customer experience first. whereas TWDC execs are worried about their bonuses and squeezing everything they can out of the customer *looks at bob iger*
10:57 You got that right 🤣
Spiderman at IoA was the first 3D motion simulator dark ride I experienced and so far nothing has beaten it, and that was in 1999.
Bad take bro. Delete this.

- Luke
Looking forward to the hotel review

The only problem I have with this video is the idea that Busy Buggies isn’t worth a 2 hour wait
Not sure I'd personally call Disney Sea the best Disney park, but it is definitely the most beautiful and immersive park!
the tower of terror in tokyo is totally different to the american ones
And rightfully so
It smells awful. Not as bad as the Carmel popcorn at Hong Kong.
@@justinmiller2655 Your nose are just not used to tbat kind of smell. For instance, just because you don't like the smell of something, it doesn't mean the majority of locals hate the smell as well
In America we deep fry takoyaki instead of using a takoyaki pan. Let that sink in.
@@gapt33th Americans deep fry everything.
I have a feeling the ride system of Peter Pan's flight was supposed to be similar to the planned Avengers ride in DCA, but was cancelled due to budget cuts/technical issues. We'll likely see the same thing happening with the new DCA Avengers ride

I like this honest review.
I’ve paid a King’s ransom to get into this park & by golly I will eat that roast beef pop corn that you bravely tasted.
Who cares, it’s still a well made area.
Bad take bro
I’ll be going in March next year, hopefully after we can book Fantasy Springs hotel. I’m sure the horrible system they have in place currently is just because of the popularity since opening. From April 1st they’ll be changing the way you can enter FS but they haven’t mentioned what yet.
Meanwhile the American parks get college campus themed lands at Epcot (communicore hall) and DCA (avengers campus).
Hey hey, I like my Avengers Campus

Because the US won't spend 2 billion like Tokyo will.

This is your opinion. Mine is that it tastes like a beef maruchan ramen packet.
In a park chock full of sweets, it was refreshingly savory
Thanks.
At last, some not so positive words for Tokyo DisneySea from you guys. Helps credibility. Thanks. Great video.
Exactly. I don't know if it helps that the area is tucked in the back, and I'd argue it's important to have characters and entertainment, but hopefully that can come in the future.
No, the place is actually well made. I don’t see any problems here except for the standby pass for Fantasy Springs
@@Jonathanest90s Indeed. What are your thoughts on the pass though? As for me I love the audio and such around the area, and am hoping to grab the cd albums. I've got one of them but am waiting for the other one. I live very far away from Tokyo sadly so I won't get to go for several years.
What's up with the roast beef popcorn? Is it related to Japanese culture?
Tokyo Disney is infamous for its huge range of popcorn flavours, they were gonna mess up eventually. I have only been to Hong Kong Disney, and I will vouch for their world of frozen. When I rode the frozen ever after, our group had Elsa her self greet us as we were getting off.
@ thanks for the insight!!
But why is this not in the main park as a fantasyland replacement ....
Because Disney Sea needed a Fantasyland😊
@dannielz6 why ?? I loved the concept of the ports and i think not every disney parks needs a fantasyland.
simple. because of land layout, space, and where everything sits. they won't replace fantasy land as that would completely shut down the main hub are of the park. the size and scale of fantasy springs doesn't "fit" in fantasyland as a replacement.
@@mike3889 could be made to fit i just dont really like the fact that every park needs a fantasy theme i love the origional theme
It's not so much beloved in Japan, so it would be a bad choice for Tokyo
They are not popular in Japan
DisneySea is all about whimsy & there’s no whimsy in Avatar

I was just there and it’s one of the best lands I’ve ever been in any Disney Park and you call it “not perfect”?! This is perfectly fine the way it is.
Land can not be perfect without atmosphere entertainment
Galaxy's edge is good example for it
@@なかお-m1xGalaxy’s Edge is one of the best lands at Disneyland. I bet you never even been there.
I think its because Fantasy Springs itself is surrounded by what some might consider the best of the best. Any issues the Springs have (even minor ones) will inevitably stick out like a sore thumb. The quality standard over at Disneysea is an incredibly challenging point to meet
@@Jonathanest90s It's really not - and I'm a HUGE SW fan since I first saw it at age seven in 1977!

Who cares, it’s still a well made area.

Fantasy Springs is still well made.
I don't blame you for being salty.
the exclusive to hotel visit to hotel guests only is only during the initial launch / grand opening period. it'll go back to open to everyone in due time. same with fantasy springs. it use to be reservation or have a dpa or standby reservation only to get in but they're lifting that soon.
Sounds like they are ironing a few things out that can be altered (food, for example), but the ride issues are concerning…
Only thing I didn’t like on the frozen ride is the ceiling. There has to be a better way to theme it, make it look like a night-sky or something like that.
Nip picking much?

Agree. This review is just messy honestly. Makes me feel good about my own video about Fantasy Springs/Tokyo DisneySea.
Very sad that the mediocrity of this land, built with all the money in the world, is proof of the shameful state of imagineering

You must be a boring person for not caring about Frozen.

Also my friends at Walt Disney Animation Studios worked on the animation for this ride. Very proud of them.
Stop trying to make "book report ride" happen.
Huh? What does this mean?
@@jasonwei_au The Imagineers refer to a dark ride that goes through the story sequentially as a "book report ride". Think like the Fantasyland dark rides at DL that take you quickly through the story.
