You didn't need a "special pass" to go to the grocery store. But, you were supposed to fill out a form stating where you were going, in case you got stopped. The "Green Pass", on the other hand, was required for anything outside of necessities, for much of the first half of 2021, and will remain a stain on Italian history for centuries to come :(
@@MikeHonan6 But the salaries are even lower there. What's happening to the country is crazy. Especially here in Tuscany where I live. Almost impossible to find a long-term rental now, in any of the desirable areas. Everything is a tourist or "transitory" rental now, and the prices are through the roof. It's untenable, to say the least.
Italy is sooo cool
Well done editing Chris

Thanks for the clarification
Italy is being "californicated". It's getting impossible for Italians to afford living here.
Yes, I was there this past February and it was just as expensive as the US in Roma.
Southern Italy is much cheaper than the tourist areas around all the major cities but you have to go outside those areas.

@@XGB-Honan Yes, the major cities have gotten quite expensive. And, over-touristed. If that is even a word.
Is the Italian government still offering extremely old properties very cheap if you are willing to fix them up?
