+Amorwing01 I'm a new fan who played Sacred Stones and Awakening first, then Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn and Shadow Dragon, and I'd rank Awakening easily in the bottom two. While Radiant Dawn is praised for its ingenious level design, objectives, and mechanics, I find Awakening to be the opposite : plain level-design (in the main story's levels, Paralogues are better), it has very few variations in the objectives, the gameplay mechanics are either dull or completely unbalanced (thanks the duo system), and I'd argue the overworld map, on the two games I've played so far that have one, has ALWAYS been a freaking mistake in this series. The only obvious advantage Awakening has over others in the series is the polish on the graphics and on the "mise en scène", which is pretty much just eye-candy put on top of a rather generic story about mostly generic characters. I feel like I've been spoiled by the Tellius universe, but there are way too many one-note/bland characters in Awakening. Also the class changing system is pretty neat, though it absolutely requires the world map, or should I say : farming. I watched a translated playthrough of Birthright and welp...other than gameplay, they did not learn their lesson from Awakening's writing faults and definitely focused on the Japanese archetypes and the "harem simulator". I do wish bigger worlds were more apparent in future titles like in PoR/RD and how involved all different nations were in the main plot with the looming threat of a world war due to corrupt clergy. They fleshed their world out well, and I liked that.

Fact of the matter is, this game was marketed as a crossover between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem, and does NOT come across as that. The Fire Emblem aspects could easily be replaced by any other kind of generic weeb crap, and the SMT aspects seem to have bailed out entirely because Lucifer and YHVH decided to start douching up the universe again so they had to clean it up. Point I'm making is, FE and SMT have alot in common: They're relatively dark RPGs that make the player think about their actions, place a heavy value on life, and have firm roots in mythology. They put them together, and what did we get? MarMar's Bizzare Adventure: Doga is Unbreakable: Idolmaster Edition. Do you REALLY think that makes sense?

When Atlus made that teaser, it was barely 2 months after they've decided on a collaboration. Ideas were suggested and brought to the table some time after the teaser. You could say that Atlus got too excited and rushed that teaser to let the world know that a collaboration was coming but there was really nothing set regarding concept and direction at the time.

Agreed. Literally almost all of the arguments of Awakening-Haters can be destroyed. Sure, there are a few things that ARE legit complains, like how they felt Lunatic Plus was cheap, due to how Abilities keep getting switched up, etc, but most of them are just plain retarded. "GRRRR, WHY DON'T ALL CHARACTERS IN THE GAME HAVE DEPTHS DEEPER THAN THE OCEAN?!?", dude, do you KNOW how many characters there are in Awakening? I watched a translated playthrough of Birthright and welp...other than gameplay, they did not learn their lesson from Awakening's writing faults and definitely focused on the Japanese archetypes and the "harem simulator". Plus Corrin...is not an interesting character - a mary sue if anything.

I do wish bigger worlds were more apparent in future titles like in PoR/RD and how involved all different nations were in the main plot with the looming threat of a world war due to corrupt clergy. They fleshed their world out well, and I liked that.

As much as I like this game's aesthetics, it's not SMT, it's nowhere near SMT. This is Fire Emblem X Persona. Which is great and all, but a far cry from what was expected.
But persona never looked anything like this. It dabbled in anime tropes, but never to this extent. And throwing it under the bus for lack of better comparison isn't really optimale.

Fact of the matter is, this game was marketed as a crossover between Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem, and does NOT come across as that. The Fire Emblem aspects could easily be replaced by any other kind of generic weeb crap, and the SMT aspects seem to have bailed out entirely because Lucifer and YHVH decided to start douching up the universe again so they had to clean it up.
Point I'm making is, FE and SMT have alot in common: They're relatively dark RPGs that make the player think about their actions, place a heavy value on life, and have firm roots in mythology. They put them together, and what did we get?

+TheMightyBiscuit There was no "original concept" if you're basing it on that rushed and poorly done old teaser with old art. When Atlus made that teaser, it was barely 2 months after they've decided on a collaboration. Ideas were suggested and brought to the table some time after the teaser. You could say that Atlus got too excited and rushed that teaser to let the world know that a collaboration was coming but there was really nothing set regarding concept and direction at the time.
