Ready for my exam tomorrow
Fuck yeah 98 on my test
+Preston Burkett Almost ready for my test tomorrow
I have an Exam tomorrow. ill let you know how i do
HEY i got a B!
Nice I got an 88.... Once of the questions was "Who has sand?"
"Peace, my well read ballers!" I would not be at all surprised if this guy is a Harvard graduate with a masters in English lol!
blockmasterscott I think he does have a masters in literature
I know he has a Ph.D.
That’s what good teachers do - they educate you and engage you.
I finished reading this book when I was 11. It still remains one of my favorites. The message of "Do I follow the rules or do I follow my heart?" is timeless.
Huck Finn is probably the most censored book in America, because if seven words Huck says when he writes a letter telling folks back in Missouri where Jim is at so they can take him back to slave for them--and he remembers the good times and friendship he had with Jim--and he thinks about how anyone against slavery supposed to go to Hell, so Huck tears up the letter and says "All right, then, I'll go to Hell". That STILL messes people up!
Huck Finn is one of my favorite books, and that is my favorite part.
That was my favorite part of the book so much growth in just one scene
Initially this messed me up, but later I realized that Huck didn't realize he was making a good decision, although forbidden by society.
And remember that back then, Southern preachers taught that help slaves escape was wrong. Huck probably really did believe he would go to hell for helping Jim.
So he was willing to face eternal torment in hell, for the sake of his friend Jim.
How many of us could do that?
(Even if you're an atheist or Jewish, and don't believe in hell, you still have to really respect Huck for his choice. I believe that Huck really did think he would go to hell.)
Just a little History reminder that the democrats supported slavery
Just found Thug Notes and watched like 20 in a row. I do not doubt for a second that this man is a literary genius. Keep keepin' it real, homie. I want to see thug notes on Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.
I agree entirely.
Honestly learned more in this video than the months my AP English Literature and Composition did about this book. Using not only terminology that many students can understand, but also making the description slightly funny makes this video a great one. Thank you for this series.
Aw hell naw
> Video starts
Aw hell yah
As I am so addicted to T-Notes, I figured I'ld even watch a Twilight one!
Aww, I was hoping for a real satiric Twilight analysis.
It's official; I am adding 'Well Read Baller!!' to my resume and all future business cards! Peace Out Family!
That has to be the most unique April Fool's prank ever. Wonderful job, Thug Notes.
It's not unique at all, he just put a bait-and-switch title on an otherwise normal and normally-produced episode of his series.
Oh, thank fuck. It IS an April fools joke.
Yeah I'm glad too.
I've never wanted to read Huckleberry Fin. But after your awesome summary, I have the urge to read the book myself. Will hustle to the library asap. Good job Prof Sweets!
Best April fool's prank
Oh thank GOD!
***** Title says Twilight. video is not about Twilight.
This isn't exactly a complicated prank.
Just finished reading the book, I always love to watch WiseCrack's analysis in case I missed something and I did. I noticed huck was always running away from his problems but never made the connection that the Mississippi River was his freedom or the symbol of freedom. Thank you for this amazing video :)
My 8th grade English teacher told us to watch your video on Huckleberry Finn cuz we were reading it in class
I just happened to stumble upon this channel... And oh my lanta I LOVE IT SOOOOOO MUCH! I think "peace my well read ballas" is now going to be in my everyday vocabulary! Such excite, much joy!(yes that was a doge reference, and I am not ashamed of it lol)
i'm using this to work on my literary analyses paper on how huck is used as a device to point out all the fucked up shit in slavery era culture.
i'll give you a citation or two.
you had me for a second
I learn more from this channel than my actual english class
I showed this to my english teacher and she showed it in class. A+
As I read the book for summer reading I thought it was really really dry and that events were really dragged out. But then a few chapters later you realize how important every little thing was. And then at the very end of the book you just get blown away and realize how amazing the book actually is. Now I just need to read Moby Dick and Grapes of Wrath. Fun summer for me....
Haha, glad it's not twilight, but to see him summarize that book would have been hilarious!
I get the April Fool's Day aspect of this, but I would love to see an actual review of Twilight. Class that joint up a bit.
***** there's only one way to find out...
***** oh my god thissss. That book is so badly written you'd think it's some fanfic of an anime.
Double posted whoops
PrehistoricBiiirds?
Fanfic? I'm pretty sure that book was called Fifty Shades of Grey. :P
CusterDawg That one was boring unless you read the porn parts, which was hilarious.
But yeah, Fifty Shades of Grey plays like a fanfic of a fanfic.
Killed it again! I'm loving this show, keep up the great work. My English teacher mentioned Dostoevsky the other day when we were watching a Russian film and I threw down the connections to the Underground Man. Haven't read the book yet but Thug Notes has broadened my horizons.
This is fucking billiant, what a genius
"On the real: people can be dicks man." - Dr. Sweets.
Can you do Tom Sawyer please?
+Nobody Touches Jordan too late bruh. my essay is due tmmrw
I cannot believe that a network hasn't picked this book critic up and used this idea in their programming. Heck, BET would eat this up... he'd be a gold mine to them... (or any other network for that matter) Let people know that this guy is coming up for a 4 minute segment after they come back from commercial and people would probably watch the commercials to ensure they don't miss his segment. I'm serious... Somebody needs to hire this guy. He's funny and he's smart. That's two things this guy has to offer that many people who are already on television don't offer in the least. Somebody hire this man and pay him already! :-o
I just read this for pleasure, thanks for taking me to school! It was awesome!
Another brilliant episode! I use these in class every semester.
Excellent, insightful synopsis. Please say you gave this as an oral report in class.
Phew! You got me, too. Saints be praised, it was Huck Finn.
This was actually phenomenal. It's kitschy but intelligent.
April's Fools strikes again! :D
This is the best thing I have ever watched. Thank you.
thug notes is the best wisecrack hands down. always leaving me wanting more
Your face at 2:09 was priceless. It was the exact same face I made when I got to that portion of the book.
Great as always, yours is one of the best channels here on yt
I knew Sparky was too legit for that bloodsuckin sparklyboy jive.
Really enjoying this straight-up slant on the classics. I'm glad you stopped swilling whiskey after your talks, and open the book. Thanks.
This is honestly the only way I'll come remotely close to reading Twilight...thank you Thug Notes.
great review on a fantastic book!! keep them coming!
It's been a long time since I read Huck Finn, but I don't think Huck rejects Christianity. I think he rejects the preachers of his society who have twisted it to defend slavery. Huck doesn't have the education to argue with the pro-slavery preachers logically, but he knows slavery is wrong and doesn't know how he knows it. I think Twain deliberately left religious and non-religious interpretations of Huck's decisions open.
He's not against the words of the religion, but he's against the actions of the followers of that religion.
In the book he questions why his care taker prays before meals if that adds any context their is a bunch of different times where he does
Josh Hanson As I said, "I think Twain deliberately left religious and non-religious interpretations of Huck's decisions open." If you want to interpret it as Huck having a better intuitive understanding of God than the preachers intellectual understanding then you can, and if you want to interpret it as Huck rejecting God then you can.
Josh Hanson "Huck never actually questions that the preachers and his guardians and all of the slave-holding people are wrong" -- like i said, he can't argue against slavery logically.
"he just recognizes that his own feelings are in direct contradiction to everything he's been taught," -- I'm not sure Huck's opposition to slavery is just his own feelings. This assumes he's a subjectivist, emotivist about ethics, like you probably are. I don't think so. I think he looks Jim in the eyes and sees that there's a person just like him there, and I think that's more than just emotion. I think Huck has a kind of knowledge there, not just emotion, which he just can't put into words.
"He actually thinks he's a bad person because if it." - And that's why I don't think his opposition to slavery is purely emotional: because his emotions are inclined toward these false-guilt feelings
Christianity explicitly condones Biblical slavery, which is nothing like the American South.
Blessed to have Thug Notes in my life. Now I can actually pass my exam. thank you
With the first camera I ever got , I found it on the neighbors trash pile . On the first roll of film . I took a picture of the Actors who played Tom and Huck standing in the front yard of Tom's house getting directions from the director . I was about 7 or 8 and the camera was an old box camera . Later I read the book Tom Sawyer and imagined a paddlewheel steamboat out on the lake where my Uncles boat dock used to be . And they Built the Showboat Branson Bell there later . The largest vessel on any landlocked body of water in America . Yeah , On Tablerock Lake in Branson . Missouri is awesome !
This got me. Nice April Fool's joke. :-D
That said, after today, I suggest that you rename the video to its proper title, so people who search your channel will know what to look for.
I really enjoy this channel's videos. (Just subscribed since I'm loving all the videos so far!) Also the analysis on the books are great since it's so accurate! I can't wait for more episodes.
If you can, can you please do an episode on The Natural by Bernard Malamud? It's been one of those books that still haunts me in my sleep since high school. -shudders-
This is awesome. Happy April Fools', Sparky!
Smooth. You never disappoint. Have a great one, my man, and to all my fellows out there, only in our wildest dreams.
One of my favorite books all-time. Thanks Spark!
Forsooth, I have been made a fool.
Brilliant as usual :)
Awesome video and super informative. Thanks!
I forgot what today was and when I saw the title, I was shaking my head. Nice one my good professor.
I almost skipped this video for obvious reasons. So glad I didn't. Well played, sir. Well played.
This was rather enlightening.
OK. I definitely subbed. Pretty darn good stuff. Mark Twain wasn't just a funny guy. He was making fun of people while entertaining them!
My English teacher played this for my class 😂
I turned this on before I was completely awake. You got me!
LOL this is actually perfect, I was hoping you'd do this book since I'm reading it in school :3
Hope he changes the title to what it really is later, so it doesn't go from April Fool's to open trolling.
I'm not gonna lie.. I was confused for like 2 mins, then I remembered today's date! Well played!
I appreciate the Huckleberry Finn analysis. Probably far more so than I would have appreciated yet another cheap shot at the Twilight series. Well played, thug.
this actually convinced me to give the twilight books a shot. I seems like they make a lot more interesting points than they are given credit
This was fantastic!
I really had my hopes up
i watched all your vids last week :[ please keep making more!!
hahah you scared the shit out of me with the title. Good job on the review!
YOU GOT ME THUG, YOU GOT ME REAL EXCITED, AND THEN YOU GOT ME
I don't know why, but that giant bar of soap as a sign of "civilization" kills me. It definitely looks like the way Huck sees the world.
awesome review !
Thanks for the content.
You got me sparky nicely done
You guys are awesome!
Well played my friend, well played!
YOU GOT ME! Soooo good XD Great job!
Why did this video help me more than the 10 minute sparknotes one
Once I seen that the title was Twilight I was like "Noooooooo!". April fools gets me every year. lol
This is the first legitimate April Fool's Joke I believed. Well played Thug Notes.
War and Peace, please?
Hahahahaha!!! Nice April fool's joke, Sparky!!!
Hahaha good job. I should've saw that coming. That's the first April Fools prank I fell for in a while. Proud to say it was you :)
amazing as always :O!!
I saw one of the Twilight movies, it wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen but I'm glad this review was about Huckleberry Finn.
Wow I realized I'm accually
Learning stuff from these videos 10/10 have shared
Oh my god ur vids are the best! Thanks for making this so much more fun than it actually is!!😄
These are amazing.
I was like "Oh shit, he went to the dark side!" then I realized what day it was...I was so confused for a minute lol
That went better than expected.
haha when I clicked on the video I was worried. then when you said the first words I was so relieved.
Very good review.
DAMNIT U GOT ME THUG NOTES....U GOT ME GOOD.
Wonderful.
Ha! Got me too.
For the better, I might add.
When are you going to do Franz Kafka, "Metamorphisis"?
Well played, sir. Well played indeed.
You win this time, but I'll be back!!
well played, well played
I was expecting the prank to be that he actually reviewed Twilight. The switch got me.
Happy April Fools to you too, playa.
Most excellent, Brother ...
