Thank you for the honest review. Btw how amazing is WR250R. Almost 11 years old design now and its still up there shining. What a milestone dualsport bike. I would never sell mine unless for a wr450r :)
Rewatching this video I realize it is absolutely the best first hand, owner experience motorcycle review I've watched. Very informative, exceptionally well done. Thank you for posting!
Great video, my new CRF450L is sitting in my garage waiting for spring, we have winter here in Canada, I'm so excited to try this bike out more then just the end of my driveway!
“I’m a little bit fat” 😂 words have never resonated with me more... haha. Congratulations on the bike! I’ve had my eye on one of these for a while too.
@@billding6685 It supposedly can handle up to 210 pounds but you could probably change the suspension out for something that works. Also you could just lose some weight because most bikes like this can't handle too much weight.
I'm not fat but dude that's fucked up hell be fine on the bike. Dont tell the dude to loose weight. Maybe we should tell you something that might hurt your feelings punk
You really need to spend 5 minutes every hour tweaking your suspension for your weight, area and terrain every hour of riding for the first week or two of riding. Back a flat head screwdriver and small hammer to adjust sag, and a little flat head for rebound and compression and just tweak it as you go. There’s ton of info on forums too. I PROMISE it will make you so much happier
No mention of the XR650L I’ve had my 650 for 22years and it’s still going with 30000 miles rode stuff like you have in the video all the time never a issue. I’ve been all up and down the eastern USA all types of terrain. Loved every minute of it. If I had it to do again I would still buy the Xr again. And it’s half the price.
I've owned a few XR650L. They were a little "poppy;" felt like a one banger. I liked them though. I'm looking at this 450L pretty hard. This guys review is helpful.
I wound up with the new CRF250F. I looked, and rode one of these, and WOW, they are sweet...but, I'm almost 60 years old, and the 'recovery period' has really gotten stretched out from when I was a younger man. When I wreck, it takes a whole lot longer to get back in the saddle...so, if I had the power of this bike, there's a real good chance I'd get in way over my head. With that said...if/when I buy another dual sport, this will be on the short list. Great vid, thanks for the honest review.
Great review bud. This bike is going to be an after market accessory manufacturers wet dream. I can guarantee you that by the middle of next year we will be seeing these on the road with all the adventure bells and whistles attached. Maybe even yours!!
Nice Review! I was in R&D to buy a DRZ400, when they told me about the CRF450L. They said they had one on the loading dock waiting for pick-up I could look at. It was your bike! Later on that day I saw your video while researching the CRF450L and I recognized where you were riding and the pic of your bike for pick-up. Weird coincidence. After seeing yours I had to have one. I just bought mine last week (took some time to save) and love it. Thanks for the great reviews and it’s nice to see our local area. R&D told me I was CRF450L purchase #22.
Such a sweet bike, you must have uncorked it by now, 6 years later lol. Major improvement as I'm sure you know. You were lucky to walk in and find one to buy!
Coming from a crf250L I really love this bike. I'm a very inexperienced rider with about 2300 miles under my belt. 40% off road. 60% on road. I do want to reduce the torque maybe a little larger rear sprocket. I have few problems with it though. Downshift revmatching it sometimes stalls out forcing me to hold the start button maybe causing a crash one day. And the smallest problem be stalling a few seconds after I start it for the first time of the day.other than that I really do enjoy this bike. I have about 250 miles on my crf450L
Going up in size on the rear sprocket is going to shift your power even more towards the bottom end. If you are wanting to lessen the low end and get a little more top end you'll want to go smaller on back or larger on front.
Congrats on your new bike! Thanks very much fo this review. Abut time someone did a no BS review. You rode the heck out of it for the first ride, well done! Looking forward for further reviews. Having a klr and a 450x this will be my future bike. Love both of my bikes but the klr is to heavy and the 450x, well here in CA almost imposible to plate and maintenance would be just to much. I can deal with what honda asís for the 450L, cause in return ill get what I want. I do a lot of Baja riding and this is the bike for it. Thank again, you really helped a lot.
miguel miranda I got the 450x plated in Maryland which is even harder maybe but yeah love it thing is a monster but heavy for motocross but for dual sport it was great off road but not so great over 55mph unless you made serious gearing adjustments
My riding buddy just got a 2002 CRF450R that is plated in California. Someone told him the cut-off for a CA plate on the bike was 2004. The plate was on non-op and it had an expired green sticker. Getting the plate renewed was no problem but he did have to pay late penalties on the expired green sticker. He can put the green sticker on non-op when it comes up for renewal so he won't have to keep paying the unnecessary fee. The gear spacing is pretty close the to get much highway speed out of the "R." It seems to top out around 65 mph.
You can plate a green sticker bike in CA. A guy that works at the DMV told me that. I showed the VIN for a 2015 WR250F, he looked at it and said that I could plate it. I have no desire to do so because I only ride dirt now.
Very thorough and comprehensive review. I’m sick I sold my plated XR650R. Owned it from 2002-2016. Never a hiccup. Rode it off road and set up as a sumo, probably put 20,000+ miles on it. Bullet proof. Was hoping the 2019 CRF450L might fill the hole in my garage but from what I’m reading and seeing online, I don’t think it’ll do. Very good and useful review.
Picking up my CRF450L on Monday , 7/01/19. CAN'T WAIT! Awesome video. It gave great insight. I look forward to riding it and researching parts to make it perfect for the way I want to use it.
Great Review man. Thanks for taking the time to let us digitally test ride the CRF450L. I think you sold me on the WR250R, as a somewhat beginner. Cheers. Subbed and Liked.
I know what you mean about the DRZ not feeling the best on rough single track trails like these, and I think that you're right about it just carrying the weight too high. I have a CRF250L, my brother a DRZ400S. They're around the same weight, but the CRF250L feels way lighter because the weight is down lower. Not to mention the DRZ doesn't have inverted front forks. It is still an amazing bike, but it is an old design. The 450L looks sweet too though.
This review is exactly what I was looking for. Most other reviews they are riding way out west and Im really glad I could see it get through a little mud.
I’m a previous 2008 WR250R owner and I’ve just bought a 2023 CRF450RL, this video gave me some more confidence to ride my new bigger bike. I’m hoping Honda has done something to fix the off/on throttle and the stalling, I think the flame outs might be a thing of the past. Thanks for your informative video.
Just glad that one of the Japanese bike companies finally brought out a modern good looking 450 streetable bike! I dont really agree with the price point, and the maintenance intervals. Those are the 2 main things that pushed me to KTM. But good review and awesome bike! Need more competition in order to keep this segment alive!
Thanks for the balanced review, a relatively rare thing! Honda seems to be targeting KTM with this bike. Hence the low weight, high price, and racy maintenance regimen. The behavior of the engine at low throttle angles is surprising (for Honda) and unfortunate. But I'm 99% sure that the tuners will sort this (probably for $400 or so). BTW, your comparisons with the WR250R were particularly helpful in framing where this bike stands. Cheers.
Great review from someone with a bunch of dual sport experience! Thank you. I am looking at dual sports and your info couldn’t have come at a better time. Enjoy!
I had the WR and it was amazingly stable for me at highway speeds. Might have been your added bags, suspension settings, etc? Nice Honda, though, except the maintenance schedule. That is seriously a step backwards.
I am so happy to have found your outstanding video, as I tomorrow will buy the bike and after your comparision, it will be the Wr 250 BTW I love my DRZ!
Thanks for the video, I am a sales manager for a Honda dealership in Northern Ireland and I can’t wait for ours to arrive, I have a demo space waiting!!
Great review! Since my ultimate goal is to ride the TAT, I passed on this bike because of maintenance intervals. But if The Big Four in Japan start getting competitive again in this market segment, we are all in for some excellent updated bikes!
I have a CRF250L and it stalls out a lot at idle, usually when at a red light. Sometimes mine will stall when riding when I downshift into neutral and let off the throttle when coasting to a light. Has to do with the PAIR valve which is an emissions device. Could also account for your choppy throttle in 1st and 2nd and erratic idle. It has a paint mark on it so the dealer can see if you tampered with it.
Yea I just picked mine up Sat got 300 miles on it now, I just love it. Couple of small things I'll get adjusted too but for me the perfect bike for where and how I plan to use it. I would say before you comment on the bike ride it, as far as oil changes go not all that difficult to perform snowflakes!!
And kudos to you for Not running intrusive pseudo-music soundtrack under your speaking. An exceptional video Audio. I have been considering this bike to replace both my '16 Ducati Hyperstrada and my '18 CRF250L Rally. Then I realized the CRF450L does not have ABS and has Short maintenance intervals as well as small tank and hard seat. Oh, well, Honda's bullet-proof XR650L could be The Sheet, especially with lighter exhaust and wheels. There are a bunch out there and I can modify the say to make it rideable.
Great review, thanks! Last bike I had was a dr650 which was buzzy on highway so I’ve been looking hard at the Wr for a do it all bike. Great to hear the differences as I’m also from Pa! Thanks again!
Thanks for the video! This bike has received and is still receiving a load of negativity thrown it’s way. I love the look of this 450l and I was thinking of getting one but all the bad press scared me off. I ended up buying a used wr250x in mint shape and low mileage for $3500. However, I’m still really interested in the 450l primarily for the same reasons as yourself. I live in Canada (just outside Toronto) and plating an off road bike is impossible. I’d like a 450/500 that is street legal but my only options before were Ktm/husky/beta. The Honda really has me excited but all the mediocre reviews have been killing me! Lol. Hopefully this spring I’ll be able to catch a Honda ride day at one of the dealerships in my neck of the woods so I can test one out. If I’m satisfied with the power (that so many says is lacking) then I’ll reserve a 2020 model this fall as I’m thinking Honda will iron out some of the minor issues that you highlighted by then. Plus, some of the aftermarket options should be available by then including the uncorking aspect so we can get the real power out of it. Has your opinion of the bike changed since the making of this video?
Nice review. Thank you and congrats on the new bike. Love dual sport had a 250L, WR250R, and now I ride a 250 EXCF. Wonderful sport and kudos to Honda for adding to the options.
Do you think the DRZ was too high? I have the exact model and I am tall and have no issues. (NE NJ rider). Most of my friends didn't like it because of the height.
then you got yourself a deal. cuz msrp from honda website has it listed as $10,399 plus $330 destination charge. thats not including licensing and taxes
10.2 otd is VERY good. Where I'm at. they are very scarce at dealers and MSRP is what you're paying right now. I think next spring they'll be 9-10 otd no problem.
oil changes at 600 miles,valve adjustment 1800 miles,price close to 12k,screw that,I'll keep my wr250r.But if i was going to spend 12 grand on a high maintenance queen,it wouldn't be crf450l.
lol,i have 5 bikes,2014 wr250r,2011 r1200gs,2015 150sx,2014 fe350,2009 road glide.All bought cash,slightly used from a private party,NEVER from a dealer,never new(wr for instance i bought with 450 miles,road glide with 2000,ktm with 20 hrs,fe350 and bmw i actually got in a trade).SO no,not jealosy hahaha:)And btw,guess which bikes gets ridden the most...wr250r:) bmw,ktm and fe350 are all for sale
lol,no,I might buy one myself when used market gets saturated with them, but I wouldn't buy one brand new,for the cost there are much better options out there(read:KTM,Husky,Beta)
Great review. If I didn’t already have a WR I’d most likely get the 450L but because of the jerky throttle and high price of the 450L I will keep my WR. The WR has the jerky throttle as well and that really sucks on an otherwise great ADV machine. People worry too much about the shorter maintenance interval on the 450L. Not many do RTW on these bikes. 🤓
I'm still waiting for Yamaha to come out with a street legal 450. I owned the wr250r and the rear suspension was like a pogo stick fully adjusted... I wouldn't mind a husky fe450 but idk how reliable they are.
Exactly what I am thinking! I love my WR250R but want something I can cruise the highway on occasionally. What is a good highway cruising speed in your opinion?
Got my first dirt bike in 38 years 3 years ago. Last one was a1978 RM 125. Love my 1999 WR 400. $2500 Canadian. I have put close to 3000 KMS on mostly knarly rocky trails in cottage country here in north eastern Ontario. Always starts and has never let me down. I’ve done a couple of hard enduro events with it also. I could buy five of them for the cost of a single new Honda! Tough to justify for me.
Thanks for the review! Very good video. I'm on the fence about getting one of these, but your information and video seems to help push me in the right direction
Boy, after 40 years in PA, and having moved to Arizona two years ago that sure looks like Pennsylvania to me! And those potholes certainly confirm that in my mind! Too funny, as I ride more, I can now identify some of those roads your on. Loved Riding through Jim Thorpe as well.
Congrats on your new bike. Very jealous. Would love to ride one someday. Just wish they weren’t so $$$$. Which makes me wonder if I should get a 250L for half price. I have a CRF150F now that I love. I am a big guy 6’2” 260. Not a great rider either. Been riding street my whole life but not 2 wheels in the dirt. I had a 250 L back in the 90s but they were a different bike back then. I would get to 50 and it would be screaming.
Finally a review i can relate too. I had same issues with drz400 top heavy exhausted me i lumbered through the bush, there a hard ride. My stats are same as yours i was looking at wr250r but too concerned ill get bored too fast. Great vid thankyou very much .please keep us posted how it goes im thinking maybe this is the bike for me. As you said the market sucks for more dirt oriented dual sports that dont have maintenance of a mx bike.
I just can’t do it...the price does not match the performance. I’m with you. I hated my DRZ. No power. Battery always drained. I do love the thumpers. Not sure what my next one will be. Rc51 will have to do for now.
How does the weight of the CRF450L feel compared to the WR250R? I believe on paper the crf450l is like 6 pounds lighter than the wr250r, but does it feel much more lighter or about the same? I took the WR250R on single trails and it felt pretty heavy and i'm pretty sure it's like the lightest dual sport out of all the Japanese manufacturers. I love the bike, I also have a 2007 honda CB919 and after riding that the wr250r felt like a lawn mower
If you ever get a chance to ride a converted DRZsm with some dirt tires try it. I ride a converted SM and when I rode an S, I couldn't believe the difference and just how bad the DRZs rode compared to what I was used to. I still don't know if it was suspension wasn't setup properly or not but I'd still love to know is the S is that bad.
I think I'm going to buy one. I'm alittle concerned on the service intervals but I dont think I will do much more than 1000 mi. A year since it would be a second bike. Used for up at camp.
Hey, I was wondering where you normally ride around NEPA? I’m only 8 mins in to the video and you mentioned Jim Thorpe. Do you do or know of any riding near Scranton?
Great review, this bike is for me. Where I live (up north Canada) the trails are more open, for ATVs and 4WD. Thx. Also I'm similar weight so glad to see it can handle it.
sqd8r Im from Canada myself. Did you end up purchasing? Im still debating a ktm 350..... change my mind? If you can handle those trails with it ill scrap the ktm idea
Excellent video! I have to say, I am mostly admiring the awesome trails you are riding. Me and my friends in NYC would love to find trails like this but it's not so easy to find for us! Any advice would be most helpful! We'd be most appreciative to anyone letting us tag along to show us some trails within a 2.5 hour ride from Brooklyn!
Excellent review! I'm torn though. I just ordered the Yammy 700 Tenere dually. I'm very interested in this 450L you have but can't be sure which way to go? Tenere or CRF450? I have 2 WR250R's, KTM690 Duke, and have owned a few XR650L, KLR650's, XT550's. This CRF450 looks awesome, but it's pricey compared to the 700 Tenere. Thoughts?
They're such different bikes. I don't think you can have just one or the other :) The 700 is on my list of bikes to check out. I think it'll make a great lightweight ADV bike. Wife wants to ride with me though, so an 850GS or Africa Twin may be in my future instead.
Great review video. I've been discussing this with several people and we're curious why you chose the CR over a Euro bike such as a FE501 or an 500EXC? Or are you just more familiar with the Honda mechanics?
I wonder that also but I've read a lot about the service intervals on the ktm/husky bikes..issues with maintenance and auch.bur I've also heard that people kinda exaggerate those claims..?
The majority of 500/501 owners are riding well past the parts replacement intervals outlined in the owners manual. The manual recommendations are realistic if you where racing the bike full time. Guys are going 400-800 hours regularly before rebuilds. I own a lot of bikes and sold my 2015 501 this spring and am having some bad sellers remorse now. Didn't realize just how much I loved that bike til it was gone. Had around 160 hours on it with oil changed every 10 hours , ran as strong as new, and zero problems. I'll probably buy another 501, I wanted to like the new Honda but for that price no way, maybe if it was 2-3k cheaper than the KTM/Husky.
Great reviews. I felt that it was honest and very informative. That said I admit that I’m jealous of the bike and the trails that you have to ride locally. Lucky
After having a 2011 wr and then going to other bikes, I bought another wr250r and its by far my favorite and I will never get rid of it. I also would LOVE to have the new 450 your riding.
My WR went to a friend, so I still get to ride it once in a while. The power of the 450 is addicting. The WR still feels "sufficient", but you can sure notice the difference :)
Is this bike around 12 pounds lighter than the WR 250R? I am riding a WR250R and it's heavy for me in the woods. Seems like the Honda would feel nearly has heavy. When the WR leans over about 30 degrees I can't hold it. 30 inch inseam doesn't help.
Enjoyed you're revue on your new 450. I had a 2016 Honda CRF250L, and before I knew Honda was coming out with the 450 I got a 2018 KTM500. Just like you I loved my Honda 250 but wanted more power. Only thing with the 250 I hated was the fact it was 300+ pounds. I love my KTM500 it's great off road but on the road it's not as smooth as the Honda was. But I ride off road more than I do on the road. Thanks for your video, makes me want to go look at one. Freddy
Thanks for the insight. I have an XR250R and CRF230M and I might just replace those for the 450L or RL with a set of motard wheels so I have some more room in my garage.
I was casually watching this and got to the 3:20 mark and thought “Hey that green house looks familiar.” You’re right next to my parent’s house. It’s cool to see riders making videos in the Lehigh Valley. Did you go through R&D in Palmerton?
netmagi I go through R&D for odds and ends. I’m in Kawasaki’s camp at the moment. I moved out of there several years ago, but 873 backing up like that isn’t unusual during rush hour(don’t know what time you were there). The canal bridge situation doesn’t help though.
I really appreciate the video I think you do a good job about comparing but something I wanted to bring to your mind that you never brought up was the possibility of the bike needing it’s break in period for everything to kind of work it’s way to perfection. I know my first bike was a Honda and the throttle felt the same so maybe after some break in that will smooth out. Regardless I’m still very interested in bike! Thanks for the video great review and content
Thanks for the review. This is the info that potential buyers are looking for but never find on the “professional” channel reviews. Glad you’re out using the bike as it should be and great work with the audio voiceover (so many people have horrible audio levels 😄)
Nice review. thanks for the informative review. I like the WR but want a little more power for highway and loaded up with adv gear/luggage but mostly I want more low rpm power that the the WR doesn't do well. On the CRF would you consider dropping a tooth on the front sprocket or adding a few to the rear for better low speed technical riding without lots of clutch slippage or do you think it's good right where it is for your style of riding? If you did that, do you think the motor would still run comfortably at 65 mph for long stretches of highway riding?
I would leave it as-is. The gearing is low enough for trail, and no matter how low you make it, there's still sections you'll be needing to slip the clutch on (with any bike). The more I've ridden over the years, the better I get at feathering the clutch in the tight stuff. It's a necessity. Anybody that claims otherwise isn't *really* riding tight stuff that challenges them.
I want a dual sport! I sold my crf450x that I got plated. Now I’m itching for a bike haha. This seems ideal except the the maintenance. Are your valves still in spec? Have you done a bunch of oil changes yet? I’m thinking about the wr250r too.
You did not want to plateau dirt bike you said because of "the maintenance intervals " Correct me if I am wrong but the 450L has the same basic motor as the other 450 Honda's and so it does have the more frequent valve inspection/adjustment intervals ...no?
Still got the bike buddy? I’ve got a Wr250r and need more power. I’m thinking about doing flapper mod and programer or jumping up to a crf450l or Ktm 500
I like the 450l one thing I don't like is how that cable loops up over the top of the sppedo, I have a deposit on a ktm 790 adv R, can't wait! Good luck with your bike...
Spurg at Revzilla is a bit heavier and he went down a few clicks on damping settings from stock because the stock settings were also a bit rough for him.
Nice seeing scenery you’ve known all your life in a bike review. We just did an 18 rider dual sport/adv ride in and around Nesky on Saturday. You would have fit right in. If your not already, I have a Facebook page called Pennsylvania Dual Sport. I’m sure people would love to know about your 450L. I ride a 250L that’s properly suspended and geared down for trail riding as well as a Beta 300RR for the technical stuff. My wife rides an XT250 and goes anywhere I go. She also has a “little” bike for tougher stuff. We’re also board members of a local AMA recognized trail riders club. Hit me up if interested. There are no dues. We have group rides all the time. We also just took over the Michaux Dual Sport 👍 so that’ll be happening next year after all. Nice bike btw.. so glad the that big thumpers are living on after all.
Thanks for the review. I'm considering the bike. I also appreciate the overall on the other bikes. I was considering a drz. Have you rode a 650r or 650l? I know the 650l is a bit dated especially the suspension. They are affordable on the used market
Just came across your video and enjoyed your perspective and would like to know do you still have the bike and what kind of mileage does it have now. Also has the twitchy throttle and stalling been resolved or is it just a characteristic of this bike.
Nice video, I have a DRZ400SM which I put a 19" front wheel on coming from a 07 crf450 it is very under powered, but work very well for me at 160lbs. Ride to work everyday, weather permiting, and some trail riding trips in Arkansas.
I have been riding a Wr250R for a while now, but my wife has recently started riding and she loves my WR. So now I'm looking for a new bike and this is what I'm leaning towards. So far would you recommend this over getting another WR? I have been just like you and wanting more power lately.
Thank you for posting!
thx man! Really appreciate the feedback
Great video, my new CRF450L is sitting in my garage waiting for spring, we have winter here in Canada, I'm so excited to try this bike out more then just the end of my driveway!
wishing you a short winter :)
“I’m a little bit fat” 😂 words have never resonated with me more... haha. Congratulations on the bike! I’ve had my eye on one of these for a while too.
lol, thx
I checked one out. It seemed to be a dirt bike with signals. So I'm holding out to see longevity.
No mention of the XR650L
I’ve had my 650 for 22years and it’s still going with 30000 miles rode stuff like you have in the video all the time never a issue. I’ve been all up and down the eastern USA all types of terrain. Loved every minute of it. If I had it to do again I would still buy the Xr again. And it’s half the price.

62 here and I feel the same way, but I’m going to give my 2023 CRF450RL a try 😅

Nice Review! I was in R&D to buy a DRZ400, when they told me about the CRF450L. They said they had one on the loading dock waiting for pick-up I could look at. It was your bike! Later on that day I saw your video while researching the CRF450L and I recognized where you were riding and the pic of your bike for pick-up. Weird coincidence. After seeing yours I had to have one. I just bought mine last week (took some time to save) and love it. Thanks for the great reviews and it’s nice to see our local area. R&D told me I was CRF450L purchase #22.
I ran into 3 of them in the woods last Sunday. All from R&D! So glad to hear you love it. They're great machines.
5 star review, the best so far hands down !
Makes me wait awhile before I get one.
Thanks for the video !
thx!
The best motorcycle review ever hands down. Thank you for the exellent work. Loved your safe riding. Stay safe.
Christopher Villarreal my bike is terrible on the road after like 45-50. It’s an 09 450x
Thx, appreciate the feedback
Great review. For others coming here: the Vortex ECU fixes the twitchy throttle completely. Aftermarket tanks are available.
WR is a better beginner bike for sure
@@netmagi
The wr250r is built proof,
Low maintenance.
A very capable bike 🇬🇧
I know what you mean about the DRZ not feeling the best on rough single track trails like these, and I think that you're right about it just carrying the weight too high. I have a CRF250L, my brother a DRZ400S. They're around the same weight, but the CRF250L feels way lighter because the weight is down lower. Not to mention the DRZ doesn't have inverted front forks. It is still an amazing bike, but it is an old design. The 450L looks sweet too though.
Pick my up on release day for $8.999 fresh out of the crate 0 miles rode 129 miles befor going home that day and fell in love with this unit
This review is exactly what I was looking for. Most other reviews they are riding way out west and Im really glad I could see it get through a little mud.
Is it more buzzy than the DRZ ? And how would you compare those two motors? Thanks
So have you had any Flame outs? What are your thoughts of this bike?
Great review man really appreciate how thorough you were, now all I've gotta do is come up with 11 grand.........
How can you say you disagree with price and maintenance. THEN claim you went with KTM. Lol.
@@AdvBrewery Good point. Ktm is a lot more expensive and require more maintenance intervals than honda.
@@chrisblanchard4938 Yep...........
Are you dumb you have to service your KTM more than the Honda and it’s costs more and the Honda will last longer on the road ?
@@AdvBrewery Because in this category, KTM is a better bike.
Cheers.
Great review! Actually sold my 450L for a wr250r lol! Used to go up to jim thorpe as a kid. Which road is that trail off of?
off route 54 by the power plant
You did a great job navigating thru this nasty mud. I'm looking at one of these bikes as well as the Beta.
thx. I looked at the beta, but honda reliability is tough to beat
Thanks for reminding me how much I love my WRR! Ha ha. Great review. I'm trying to keep an open mind...
Oh and that's a beautiful area! I rode pedal bikes around there for a weekend there a few years back. MTB and I think it was a Rails to Trails path.
Wrr here, excited to hear your 1000 mile review
Great review! Since my ultimate goal is to ride the TAT, I passed on this bike because of maintenance intervals. But if The Big Four in Japan start getting competitive again in this market segment, we are all in for some excellent updated bikes!
Great review. I’m on a 250L right now and hoping to upgrade maybe next year. Love the detail
Best of luck findin a do-it-all, but man, this thing is close. Such a blast to ride.
Your DR650 was buzzy? You running straight knobbys over 80mph? Im surprised because mine is fine unless im over 80mph for an extended period of time.
I just bought one. Are people really paying 1-2k above MSRP? Mine was $9450, $10200 out the door, played and ready for the street. Enjoyed your video.
then you got yourself a deal. cuz msrp from honda website has it listed as $10,399 plus $330 destination charge. thats not including licensing and taxes
I was happy with it. Just letting people know you don’t have to pay Msrp/freight. Look around, I found 2 dealers quoting me that price
Thats not too bad at all. I heard these would be like 12k. Under 10 sounds decent.
10.2 otd is VERY good. Where I'm at. they are very scarce at dealers and MSRP is what you're paying right now. I think next spring they'll be 9-10 otd no problem.
Dont believe it unless your friends with the people who sold it
Finally a good solid review of this bike!! The after market will certainly provide a viable way to uncork this cycle.
Congratulations you will have many years of FUN
I have an '05 CRF450R still going strong to this day!
where else can you get a mx crossed with street riding????
Where are you riding? Seems mostly flat and tight. You should try the Virginia mountain trails, it looks the same except no serious hills
oil changes at 600 miles,valve adjustment 1800 miles,price close to 12k,screw that,I'll keep my wr250r.But if i was going to spend 12 grand on a high maintenance queen,it wouldn't be crf450l.
This is jealousy ^^
lol,i have 5 bikes,2014 wr250r,2011 r1200gs,2015 150sx,2014 fe350,2009 road glide.All bought cash,slightly used from a private party,NEVER from a dealer,never new(wr for instance i bought with 450 miles,road glide with 2000,ktm with 20 hrs,fe350 and bmw i actually got in a trade).SO no,not jealosy hahaha:)And btw,guess which bikes gets ridden the most...wr250r:) bmw,ktm and fe350 are all for sale
@@Evil_Morty2000 So you're a WR250R fanboy, and this CRF450L threatens your world view.
lol,no,I might buy one myself when used market gets saturated with them, but I wouldn't buy one brand new,for the cost there are much better options out there(read:KTM,Husky,Beta)
@@Evil_Morty2000 You think its a better option, Until the ktm eats a valve!
My xr400 took about three hundred kms to start feeling smoother from new. All needs to bed in
right
The best review on this bike so far, :)
I'm still waiting for Yamaha to come out with a street legal 450. I owned the wr250r and the rear suspension was like a pogo stick fully adjusted... I wouldn't mind a husky fe450 but idk how reliable they are.
This was me for years. I would think the market is big enough to do it, but the smart people at Yamaha must think otherwise.
Wet sections make you a better rider. Have you ever gone out to ride in the rain?
Thank you for the review, good movie clip, I watched it till the end. And congrats on the new bike, she’s a real beauty
Super stoked for you buddy ... enjoy your new ride .. I’m def getting mine early January .. takes awhile to ship out all the way in Trinidad lol
Thanks, glad I was able to help out.
Nice to see someone that is a good rider on You Tube
450 re-sprung would suit you. You grow into the power quickly :)
Absolutely still loving the bike FYI. . . .
Just picked up my 450L a few weeks ago. I'm part of DelVal Trail Riders and do a bunch of riding up in coal country!
Nice trails in PA! You are lucky to have those legal trails. Nice to know the grass isnt always greener out west
I think I'm going to buy one. I'm alittle concerned on the service intervals but I dont think I will do much more than 1000 mi. A year since it would be a second bike. Used for up at camp.
Check this out RE 1k mile oil changes: ruclips.net/video/8sIxaqyDfuk/видео.html
Hey, I was wondering where you normally ride around NEPA? I’m only 8 mins in to the video and you mentioned Jim Thorpe. Do you do or know of any riding near Scranton?
I don't believe I've ridden out that way before.

I'll probably buy another 501, I wanted to like the new Honda but for that price no way, maybe if it was 2-3k cheaper than the KTM/Husky.
maintenance, checkout my follow-up video comparing maintenance intervals
Nice handlebar, best mirrors I've seen in years! SOLD!
Buying bike based on mirrors?
Enjoyed you're revue on your new 450. I had a 2016 Honda CRF250L, and before I knew Honda was coming out with the 450 I got a 2018 KTM500. Just like you I loved my Honda 250 but wanted more power. Only thing with the 250 I hated was the fact it was 300+ pounds. I love my KTM500 it's great off road but on the road it's not as smooth as the Honda was. But I ride off road more than I do on the road.
Thanks for your video, makes me want to go look at one.

So oil changes ever 3,000 miles and Valve checks ever 20,000 right?
Gifters no way every 600 Miles oil
Nice complete owner review, nice ride footage as well, thanks for sharing!
Did you go through R&D in Palmerton?
yep, R&D. Thankfully they opened the other bridge back up, so the traffic should stop piling up like it was in the video.
netmagi I go through R&D for odds and ends. I’m in Kawasaki’s camp at the moment. I moved out of there several years ago, but 873 backing up like that isn’t unusual during rush hour(don’t know what time you were there). The canal bridge situation doesn’t help though.
Now that was a review. From showroom to hell trail. Thx
Jim Thorpe is a cool little town. Looking for new trails. Where is this ?
Thanks for the info on this.
I want a dual sport! I sold my crf450x that I got plated. Now I’m itching for a bike haha. This seems ideal except the the maintenance. Are your valves still in spec? Have you done a bunch of oil changes yet? I’m thinking about the wr250r too.
When are they going to update the DRZ 400s? They can no longer rest on their laurels.
The price will jump dramatically due to all the extra emissions tech they would have to add. It is grandfathered in currently.
You did not want to plateau dirt bike you said because of "the maintenance intervals " Correct me if I am wrong but the 450L has the same basic motor as the other 450 Honda's and so it does have the more frequent valve inspection/adjustment intervals ...no?
Similar motor, but not the same. This one is 600mi oil changes, 1800 mile valve checks, 20000 valve replacement.
Still got the bike buddy? I’ve got a Wr250r and need more power. I’m thinking about doing flapper mod and programer or jumping up to a crf450l or Ktm 500
Still have the bike and still lovin it. Just make the jump.
@@netmagi Awesome. Glad to hear you’re still loving it👍
I like the 450l one thing I don't like is how that cable loops up over the top of the sppedo, I have a deposit on a ktm 790 adv R, can't wait! Good luck with your bike...
Funny, cuz I thought that at first too, but It's one of those things you notice the first time you ride the bike, and then you never see it.
Nice bike btw.. so glad the that big thumpers are living on after all.
awesome! I don't use facebook, but would love to get in on some rides, and have 2 or 3 other guys that would be interested as well
Thanks for the review.
Throttle has settled in a little, or I've gotten used to it. . Not sure which :)
I'm still loving the bike. Low-speed throttle has smoothed out with more miles as well.
