On a serious note, I add birds to my existing flocks(whether it’s chickens, ducks, or quails) at night. Then, everybody wakes up in the morning and are none the wiser...
I put the old flock in a tote filled with a sand bath. I clean the cage, then put the new quail in it. Take out the old quail from their sand bath, and put them back in the cage. That way the old ones get a spa treatment will change is being made.
I’ve dabbled with quail off and on for a few years but this year I got serious and grabbed 50 of your jumbo eggs. Your idea of blending seems easy. I’d read somewhere in the past that one could add a bird or two to a cage by placing them in an adjacent cage (literally 2 cages touching or a big cage with a single wire divider) for a day or 2 and then introducing. Comments on this technique?
I'm going to replace my males, I keep 1 male + 4 hens per cage - should I follow the same procedure or just simply remove old one then add new one? How long should I wait until eggs are good for incubation?
Quick question, when I remove the existing Quail from their pen. Do I put the new Quail in the box with them or just when re-introducing them back into the pen together?
I have to wonder.. removing the quail for a few hours and putting them back in.. will that cause them to stop laying for a couple of weeks?? I know they can be really neurotic when it comes to changes.
Hi brother, I'm first time hatching eggs with inqubetor, but temperature of thermometer inside is 2* lower than inqubetor temperature, and humidity always higher like 70-80, I put just little bit of water into. Without water humidity is around 50.what can I do please help me. Thank you. I got 2nd quail egg today from my quail cage. I'm so excited.
You can dry hatch them for the first 14 days. Add water at day 15. Use calibrated thermometer and go by that temp. Incubators have a tendency to be off
I did this today and unfortunately did not work. I think just like putting birds not yet sexually mature in - (does work 90%) it is hit and miss depending on the birds. The older the hens - the worse they are. I am going to try the; separating but can see each other method next. Males also get attached to their females and vice versa :( I allow 2 square feet per bird - so this is not the problem.
Individuals can be mean, too. My flock was reduced by raccoons, so it's small now. Out of 8 birds, 6 are okay, 2 are bullies... like you said, both bullies are female.
I’m still having a hard time introducing the half quail to the flock. Are you supposed to cut them lengthwise or top-to-bottom? I have a 1 square foot cage, so I can have 3.5 quails in there, right?
I would say 3.5 per square foot is for quail that get along at best. That is still pretty cramped imo and if there's some quail getting picked on then they probably won't have enough space to run away if all you have is a little cage.

I’ve actually tried this myself. Also works if you have a wounded quail or hen. They are much easier to “work with” in the evening :)
👍
I did this before. It worked!
Do the egg cycles get interrupted this way or does is remain the same?
Super helpful. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks so much! I just had to take out a bloody male. I will try this.
Thanks! Where do I get a t-shirt like yours?
Keep up the awesome video
Love quail love your channel 😁👍
Very helpful... thanks
NEEDED advice. Due to raccoons I've ended up with two cages, 8 total quail, with 7 females and one male.
You can put them all together your fertility will just be a little lower but not by much
Good stuff, keep it coming!

Yes it usually is about 2 weeks to reset
@@MyshireFarm yikes, ok thank you. Obviously stagger such things out so you don't end up with no eggs at all from all the birds at once then. :)
I have button quail
I am about to get 4 new chicks and have 2, 4 wk old juvies. How old should the new chicks be b4 I try to put them together?
I am not familiar with buttons I am sorry. With coturnix it is a week after they start laying
When will you have some jumbo hatching eggs available????????

@@NadyaPena-01 I think he's joking about cutting a quail in half
If you have a 6 inch square enclosure then you’re in a real pickle
