canada makes a seaplane water bomber called the cl 415. and there is a lake right there. wouldnt it be a good idea to build 100 of these planes and demonstrate how you can extinguish large fires quickly when they are all used together,,then ,europe, california and all of usa would pay a 100 million a day to extinguish their fires. create jobs for canadians and save lives, homes.

Bad memories of the larch hills fire in the 90s and the Okanagan regional park fire of 2003, both those fires were mismanaged. From the start, both could have been extinguished when they were first reported but left to burn and spread, they hsave not learnt anything from those two fire, white rock lake could have been doused earlier,

Ya it's really tough to do at the last minute. They are very smart to be prepared. I'm really surprised how many tourists are still pouring into the area to do normal summer stuff. It's not somewhere I'd take my family right now if I had a choice.

@@TravelBackroads Do tourists not keep in touch with the news? Do they think they are special? Sheesh. My daughter and her family started packing up last night; loading the travel trailer, sorting through what to take, what can burn. They keep a very tidy house, so it's pretty easy. They just got the Evacuation alert 10 minutes ago. The next will be the notification to get out. Her husband is off helping the neighbours move their horses to a safe location and then he'll be back. All of Spallumcheen and Armstrong are now on the alert. Parts of Vernon are now as well, and the west side of the OK lake is a nightmare and it's heading down to West Kelowna.

I'm in Vernon & evac alert recently extended to the entire city. The fly shop in Westwold was McDonald's. I knew it very well, long before moving to Vernon. My Dad's uncle Abe had a cabin at Pinaus Lake & he let us use it back in the 1970's. Mom & Dad living in OK Falls at the time, I would visit on my holidays. Drive all the way up to Pinaus to go rainbow fishing. Stop at McDonald's Fly Shop for a couple 'Pinaus Special' wet flies & assorted others. I think I still have one of his aluminum fly boxes. Fairly certain he would have closed shop because of age rather than going out of business. Anyhow, great memories & sad to see the town of Monte Lake razed. One of my favourite motorbike rides, Vernon to Kamloops, maybe get on Barnhartvale Rd. for more twisty ride. Noticed you had a couple bikes ahead of you.

Thanks Mike, yes that name sounds right, I'm sure he just retired. My memory isn't really great for details sometimes. Pinaus Lake was a very popular lake back then that's for sure. I just heard that this morning. Well do what you can to get yourself prepared but it's out of our hands so try not to let the stress get to you. Thanks for watching.

I think McDonald was killed, when he was driving from Falkland, when he failed to negotiate that left hand curve right where that little bridge is just a few kilometers north of Falkland and missed the bridge landed in the water, if my memory serves me he was drunk and it was at night. I believe there is a rail road crossing on the north side of the bridge.

That was a pretty darn scary summer for us as we just pulled up our roots from the coast to plant here in Falkland and our first summer had to evacuate back to our homeless coast, luckily we had friends left there to invade for our refuge thank goodness, but while evacuating, at night came across a frightened deer ready to pounce onto the highway right in front of us and at 90km/hr. something, or someone would not have survived if it did, but luck was with us as we passed by just before it did, a morning evacuation would have been better with the fire still 20 km away. I actually like the winter more so than the summer - let it snow!

That property, the man bought the last of the camels that were imported to use on the Cariboo Wagon Road, back in the 1800's. The animals are buried there....... @ 7:34, on the left is the Douglas Lake road. At the time of this video, the fire was less than two kms from the hwy. This road is a beautiful drive. From here it takes you to Nicola Lake, and Merritt. Side note as you pointed out some of the businesses in your back yard. If you want your community to stay in business you should shop locally not every time but enough so like your fly fishing business more don’t have to close the doors.
