Real country music (Cash, Loretta, Hank) is, like grunge, dark and lonely. You guys get it. The steel guitar & fiddle fits this song perfectly. I'm a new fan.
Country is, as I’ve always been told and I believe it to be true, nothing but “three chords and the truth”. Fact of the matter is, sometimes “the whole truth and nothing but the truth” of the matter isn’t always shiny, happy ppl dancing to a mountain jig. It’s raw. It’s harsh. It’s the cold hard truth. And just as the Word of God is the Truth, and can divide a man’s heart (or woman’s), sometimes a song’s heart and truth can cut right to the bone and to the soul of a man. Maybe I’m just “a dinosaur” like Hank Jr., but for me personally anyway, I don’t listen to “modern country” as I don’t much care for songs about sticking my ass in the water, toes in the sand, while I’m drunker than Cooter on a boat, thinking about a new truck. I mean, for me, and I realize it’s just imo, but music should always make you *feel* something. Or maybe it’s just I want to feel something. I’ve been thru things in my life that I won’t get into, but it’s hard for me to not have “my tunes” to help me get up and get a move on when I need to get moving on something. There’s times I feel so alone and my music is all that I can feel connected to besides God. Music isn’t a false idol or anything for me but it helps in more than just these ways. Helps to express myself. And most importantly, it can help me to a point of praise and peace that’s hard to obtain in my own head and heart, to shut out the world and focus. That’s why I think we (me) can listen to a range of genres. And that’s why a good song like this, can go from metal/grunge to “country” as long as it’s sang with heart, played well, and still evoke feelings, and maintain it’s integrity.
With Alice In Chains being one of my favorite bands and Nutshell being one of my favorite songs, I have very high expectations for a cover of this song. You guys fucking crushed it. Definitely going to share this.
Released 30 years ago today,a masterpiece. Sometimes I crave a song with a particular violin,or the perfect sounds of a steel guitar, and this has it all. Thank you, gentlemen.
Ikr… I thought the craving for the fiddle, steel guitar and the sound that first flowed out from the Appalachians like a cold river stream was just me. Also, I still crave to hear Layne’s wailing voice 😢. I can only imagine what he would’ve been able to accomplish had he’d had more time. I mean, just look at what he did and we’re still talking about him and AIC thirty years later… I was 10yo when that album was released. I remember well watching him on MTV Unplugged and the feeling of hearing him and seeing him (just on TV obviously) for the first time. A feeling I still recall after the life I’ve lived 30y later, so, yeah. Rest peacefully, Layne.
Nope. Finding Kate does this song better not to mention the tribute band Face Lift if ya close your eyes you would think it was Layne on a slightly off night
OK....I literally stumbled upon this cover and I was not disappointed. Layne and AIC can never be duplicated but this cover does it justice and they truly made the song their own.
easily the best cover of this song ever done! Blown away by the addition of the violin and steel guitar to the original guitar melody! Needs to be a 20 minute instrumental of this! so beautiful!
Good lord this needs to blow up. I love the original song, but the added steel guitar and violin literally makes this song have such a deeper presence. ❤
This is an absolute masterpiece rendition of a timeless masterpiece!!! The steel guitar and haunting violin sent chills down my spine. The vocals matched perfectly!!! I absolutely loved this one!
I'm VERY protective of this song bc it along with Layne was a huge inspiration during my own battle with addiction and I’ve only ever heard 2 covers that I approved of and that is Billy Strings and now yours…you have no idea how much it means to me that you did the song justice but without trying to be Layne or Jerry and I respect that because no-one can or ever will so thank you and well done…🙏🏼
@@csbartonorgan83 yea I have heard quite a few and his isn't bad but just not for me... but the song has affected so many people and I appreciate anyone who sings with that same emotion and some covers are emotional covers and some are just musical and I appreciate both
All of this is killer, but the violinist stands out to me. Dude really nailed it by holding onto the "strained" notes just long enough before resolving them. You can feel the pressure relief when it hits with the vibrato.
I told my wife I wanted this played at my final dirt nap, pie in the sky. Now mind you, I've heard many renditions over time and obviously the true artist that wrote it. This one, this version will help me go home...True story.
Same here...but to those Ive lost & the friends who lost their children from addiction. Heart Breaking. It took many yrs for me to be way less jugdemental to this. When 2 of my 3 daughters became addicts. Congrats on your sobriety
Out of the many renditions of this Iconic song, you have given a slight twist on this song that doesn’t disrespect Alice In Chains. To add that country sprinkle is a nod to Layne and Jerry that this song lives within many of us. Thank You
Wow. You guys made this your own. Don't worry bout those negative comments, this was an excellent cover with the added twang, both musically and vocally. Playlist material. And I'm surprised no one commented on the album cover yet. That alone could bring a tear to one's eye. Reminds me of that old painting with Elvis, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and Humphrey Bogart in the bar. Beautifully done all around
Just heard Thundercash 69, & had to see what else these guys got! Scrolled & saw Nutshell. All I can say is wow! These guys do a great job making it their own without overdoing it or taking away from the original. Hats off to ya, & now I just wish I could catch a live show.
Within about 30 seconds of hearing this I had to ask myself. Why didn't this song have a violin and steel guitar from the beginning? Fantastic work boys! Bravo!
That steel guitar and the violin add so much depth to this cover. Hauntingly beautiful.
Ahh man ikr
I was literally thinking the exact same thing.
Fiddle**
Adds complex layers
It’s tasteful, not over done, just beautiful subtle country instruments. Not over done or trying to be Layne or Jerry. This is very very good!
This is fucking awesome!
There's just enough of layne in his voice but still be himself, good choice
The steel guitar and fiddle are exactly what this song needed. MAN!!! I am in love with this cover. TikTok brought me here.
Me to! Don't find much much that's good in tictok so this was a beautiful surprise ❤
Why does the sound of that steel give me chill bumps??
Me too. Bc its good.
It reminds me of midnight in Montgomery
This is how a country cover should be.
I hope this brings a new generation of youngsters to the brilliance of AIC!
Great tribute to Layne . Love this version

Holy shit the steel guitar and violin really transcends this song and hauntingly showcases Laynes pain he was dealing with.
This is the best cover version of this song we’ve ever heard.
Beautiful.
Rip to the king👑
Layne.
This sucks
@@DrDetroit_ Nah
The music sounds good the vocals don’t sound authentic. I suggest checking out finding Kate’s version. If ya haven’t heard it you’ll be blown away

The music is haunting, but you need pain in your voice. This song is about being mentally devastated.
Fucking goosebumps. Holy shit this is good.
Goosebumps and tears indeed.

I'm blown away. My fav AIC song is on another level now!!!
I'm not one for country covers of metal songs but this is done very well and sets a good mood man fantastic job
I have listened to this 6 or 7 times tonight and signed in just to come here and say 10/10.
Goosebumps every single time! Its beautiful.

Gorgeous. Loving the steel. I would dig hearing more aic covers from you guys for sure
This made me cry. This is beautiful. I LOVE Alice in Chains.
An instrumental would be superb for videoagraphers to use for drones and weddings. Definitely release the instrumental please!!

I can't believe how good this sounds. Very impressed 👏 great job Brother.
This is a great cover. Absolutely great. I watched your snippit of this on tiktok and came right here. So glad I did
Beautiful cover, a crying steel, a singing fiddle.......
That steel tho. And that fkn violin. Ultimate depressing combo. My boy with a touch of The Dance. OMG.💯💯💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️😭😭😭😭🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I havent heard this song in over a decade i think. I remember listening to it often when i was addicted to heroin. This just brought me to tears.

Great job Cody Parks.
Beautiful melodies.
The female vocal layered over the top hits my soul!

The fiddle and the steel are actually giving off the slower moments of My Dying Bride vibes.
Just now hearing this. Wow dude. Straight 🔥
Great Song R.I.P. Layne...Great Job Guy's.
Excellent cover
Awesome country version
This is fantastic. Its the kind of tune that nobody strays far from the original because its already perfect.
Steel guitar and fiddle are epic
It’s the lyrics, one of the best songs ever wrote. Nothing but pure soul no matter who performs it.
Great cover. Thank you
