    You are so right about the canned roast beef being so good. Always love putting it with Inn Maid noodles or Rheames frozen noodles (because they’re like rivels) to serve over mashed potatoes. The grandsons would eat it till they were stuffed. Keystone is soooo good. I like to put some on the softest white bread I can find and use mayo or Miracle Whip and dill pickles! I’m glad to know that I’ve been on the right track with a lot of the choices I’ve made. Even more glad to be informed of items I didn’t know existed. Very informative and thanks for being so friendly!

      @@MartinMidlifeMisadventures Hi!! Just a quick note... The Food Club line of products are First line quality .. the Mega label and the Value Time labels are your generic labels ... your basic food stuffs like sugar, flour, and just about any other bulk type food are best bought for the least price possible...the companies packing those products just change the labels and keep running! ALL the Food Club labeled products should be equal to, or better than, the brand most recognized as the standard in the industry per product type.

    Sardines are really good for you and they are relatively cheap. One of my go to lunches along with other canned fish with some crackers, maybe some hot sauce. Mackerel and salmon can be stretched by making into patties with some oatmeal or whatever you want, seasoning and a binding agent like egg or an egg substitute like chia seed or flax seed, and then fry them up!

    A few suggestions - before buying a lot of a store brand, if you aren't familiar with it, try it and see if you like it. I've found that there are some products in my store brand or Great Value that are fine, but others, just not to my taste. I'd rather spend a little more for what I like, knowing that I saved money on other things. I buy the individual cups of applesauce; 6 in a pack. I use applesauce for baking instead of oil. You just need the cup size for most recipes. The cup is also perfect as a side for a meal. Being by myself, I don't always go thru a larger jar of applesauce before it spoils. So this is another item that might cost a bit more up front compared to a large jar, but I know none will be wasted.

    • @MartinMidlifeMisadventures
      @MartinMidlifeMisadventures  3 года назад +3

      Oh yes, we have tried everything we showed you today and we like all of it. I completely agree!!! That is smart to buy the smaller packaged apple sauce. It does us no good if we end up wasting it. I do that with the olives, I mainly buy the tiny cans because I know if we open the large can it might end up going bad before we finish it. Thank you so much for the tips! have a really great night! ✌❤🤗

    For Shelf stable sour cream, butter and buttermilk- get cans of Media Crema. Its in the Hispanic foods section. For sour cream- add 1 TBSP lemon juice or vinegar, whip. For butter- blend 1 can in a food processor or little oscar for 15-20 minutes- and you've got butter-drain off liquid and add 1 tsp lemon juice and youve got buttermilk. You can add Media Cerma with a bit of sugar for fresh fruit salad too. Shelf stable whipped topping, kinda.
    Also get NIDO fortificada- the best powdered milk- also in the Hispanic section. Get jello pudding boxes. Add 1/2 c NIDO to 1.5 cups of water and youve got pudding anytime. Shelf stable ingredients to make it. Add dream whip also for more shelf stable whipped topping, and for smoothies, orange Julius ( its the secret ingredient) etc

Keystone Turkey is on sale at Amazon. They changed the label so the old lable is discounted. Manwich is good made with lentils. Spaghetti O's with chicken also cheap on Amazon. Honestly I stock them for back up dog food. Why are canned yams so pricey? I think I'm going to can my own. Water Chestnuts go great in Turkey dressing! Re-canning #10 cans of corn right now. Lasagna Soup: one can of Chef Boy AR Dee lasagna, one can of any broth (or water plus 1 bullion cube), and a small onion and clove of garlic, plus any leftover veggies or meat you have around. Dump in a pan and cook until the onions are soft. This can be stretched by adding another can of lasagna,a small can oorn, etc.
    Also can openers: my $11 Swing Away is 41 years old, and still works great. I have never used my spare. But it's a good idea to learn an alternative method in case you lose it.

    PLEASE explain Gnocchi I know it's made with potatoes but it's sold in the pasta section. I'm wondering how would it taste with chicken? Like COULD it possibly work as a "dumpling" for chicken n dumplings?? PLEASE share some recipes using Gnocchi from your prepper pantry .
    I picked up a can of the roast beef and then in the seasoning section I found a "pot roast" seasoning pack so I got that with mashed potatoes, stuffing and a gravy pack and will throw in a mac and cheese for a kid friendly option. I am making an emergency bucket with hopefully 72 hours worth of food for a family of 3. When you're packing for kids and contrary to popular belief kids do not have that survival instinct that adults have. We ALL know of a child maybe even one of our own kids that have refused to eat because they didn't like what was being served. The threats of you're not getting up from the table until you've finished your plate doesn't phase a kid!! 9 times out of 10 parents cave before kids do and in a SHTF scenario that is NOT what we want for our kids. So in a society where kids are being raised on fast food and convenience foods they are going to have a really hard time adjusting to the foods that ARE still available when the SHTF. Rice and beans is NOT going to cut it for kids.
    I tonight made dinner out of my food storage the taste could have been better. Wasn't HORRIBLE but I won't be purchasing more of this item so I'm glad I know now as opposed to when it's a necessity so I can adjust to something different while I still have options.

    • @MartinMidlifeMisadventures
      @MartinMidlifeMisadventures  2 года назад +1

      We agree 100% on the kid thing, Liz! We don't understand that mentality, if you're preparing ahead of time, why would you not get things that will make EVERYONE's life easier at at time, we can only imagine, will be hard enough! WE ARE WITH YOU! YES...gnocchi and chicken is DELICIOUS!! I LOVE gnocchi, Ash doesn't really care for it as much as me, but she makes it for me. She's done an alfredo chicken gnocchi...oh man oh man!! Glad I'm the eater! Hope that helps, Liz. Have a great Thanksgiving and be blessed always - Amy

    Although not healthy. I’ve been purchasing small cans of gravy to add to rice, noodles and other things. I would have never purchased this before. And it was inexpensive. • @MartinMidlifeMisadventures
      @MartinMidlifeMisadventures  2 года назад

      The thing with "healthy" is, most of the food we purchase either canned, boxed, or bagged is not healthy at all in a real sense. Calories and satiation will be just as important in the days to come as nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. So get you as much of the canned gravy as your heart desires! We have 2, 300gallon water storage totes that we keep filled at all times, and a newly drilled well. We are also installing rain catchment, just incase the well dries up. We do store water in 7 gallon blue water containers as well. You are right about some water leaking, we had some gallon jugs leak, but we had them stored outside. You can get the 7 gallon jugs at Walmart, and just fill them right from your tap, that water will last like 5 years or longer. They will stack nicely in a corner of a closet, they wont leak. For my veggies, canned veggies really take up a lot of room on my shelf! So, I got a cheap dehydrater, bought frozen veggies, and dehydrated them. Put them in glass canning jars and vacuum seal! It is very strange, it does seem they are all slowly changing over. They say it is convenience, but I guarantee it cost them more to make the pull top. I think they have a shorter shelf life too. So they are making more money, because the food expires quicker, And we cannot stockpile as much, maybe🥴😵

      Hello Rachel. Thank you so much. There isn't a specific video that tells everything but I will give you the short story. On January 1 2020, I was told by my Dr I (Ashley) could not return to work. I have Lupus, and at that time I had 4 broken ribs. I had a bad accident in my garden where I fell into a shovel handle while digging up palms in my yard. The blow to my chest broke the ribs. Turns out my skeleton has been horribly affected by my Lupus and made my bones very fragile. Then the pandemic hit in march and Amy was layed off. She was facility administrator for Community Corrections. We decided then and there we would sell our house, car, and most our possessions. Both of us had been very established in our careers and couldn't imagine having to start all over AGAIN, no way! We bought the trailer and thought we would head to Arizona (our youngest son lives there). But, this pandemic kept getting worse and we decided we needed to be more remote, so we headed to the mountains. The goal is 100% self sustainment. We went 9 months without water and very little electric. We got all the water worked out, installed a wood stove for heat, started a nice garden to figure out what we can grow at this elevation (7,500 ft) and we now have our solar system and hope to have it installed by Dec 1st, God willing (it is a huge system and we don't want to screw it up). We had a nice flock of chickens, but all but one chicken were murdered by a bear a few months back. We plan to get more chickens in the spring and goats for milk (we have friends that raise goats) Right now we just want to get all these things figured out and running smoothly, that way if our families need to flee the cities, because things get bad, we will have a place for them to come and we can help them learn to live in this way. I guess you could call us retired. We exhausted all our savings a few months back, but now we are earning an income from our You Tube channel, so that is a huge blessing. Amy is 46 and I will be 48 in January. We have 2 sons, ages 21 and 26. We believe the world is changing fast and soon life will change for almost everyone. We share our experiences on You Tube so people can see the reality of becoming self sufficient and start the process now, I believe we will all be in the same boat in the near future, and as many people as possible need to be getting prepared. We hope by watching what we do, it will help others when their time comes to start living this way. There is a million other things, but this is the basics of our story. Ask any questions and I will do my best to answer. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment! Have a great Wednesday! Stay safe and well! ❤🤗

      @@MartinMidlifeMisadventures Thank you so much! I appreciate the detailed response. I'm kind of fan girling that you responded! I knew you both didn't look old enough for a traditional retirement, but I certainly understand the reasons you all are getting prepared. I hope your Lupus is not giving you too much trouble presently. I love your hauls and positive attitudes. I also love it when I see you buy pies for your grandpa :) What a lucky grandpa. Thanks again for your video. I always try to watch the ads so hopefully you'll make a bit off my viewership! Blessings!

      @@rachelschichtl911 Thank you for your well wishes Rachel. I am doing well and Grandpa loves to get a treat for sure❤ Thank you for watching the ads. And on that note, only 31 seconds of the long ads need to be viewed in order for us to get credit. We had a friend who thought she had to sit through a 17 minute ad for us, it was so sweet. So I do mention that to everyone willing to watch ads for creators. Have a great Thursday!!!❤🙌

    Love your list..I have most of those items but am always adding more. Instead of buying refried beans I make sure that I have extra cans of pinto beans and I make my own refried beans..simple and tasty. As for preps, I am canning sweet corn and dehydrate watermelon and corn silks. Someone brought a large number of cucumbers to my apartment complex and no one wanted to bother with them so I got 2 large bags of cucumbers. Tomorrow I will be making dill slicers and refrigerator pickles. We usually get more cucumbers so next will be bread and butter pickles along with cucumber relish. Oh am next for dehydrating are my zucchini gummies. Keep smiling, be safe, and God bless.

    Watched the most recent vid 3.13 and then THIS one was on and it's one I haven't liked or watched!! This is where the playlist of ALL vids would be awesome. Then I wouldn't have missed it, I really thought I got them all! lol
    Sent some non slip cleats for Amy, will send a pair next month for Ashley. :D Gotta keep your traction moving on the farm, whether it's snow, ice or mud! I vote for no more slip and fall injuries....lol
    No need to open them on camera, they are coming from Miami, FL.
    On canned goods, I am going by the banker box. I have banker boxes of spam, beef, chicken, pork and fish. 2 banker boxes of coffees, 1 of teas, etc. Just an easy stack way for me to do it. lol
    Thank for your vids.

    • @MartinMidlifeMisadventures
      @MartinMidlifeMisadventures  3 года назад

      You do need to be careful when we have health limitations. Have you thought about canning your own foods, you can control the salt much easier that way. When I can my green beans and dried beans, I only put a 1/2 teaspoon of salt in the jars, and you don't even need to put any at all. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! You have a great Wednesday!!!🤗❤

      A couple of ideas to lower sodium content. For ramen, don’t add the whole flavor packet. Rinse canned meat. Dilute selected canned foods with water. Add potatoes.

    This popped on my recommendations. You didn't mention prices for everything, but there were some cans with the prices. One year later, there has been a jump in prices. One you mentioned was beans at 80 cents, now even store brands are at 1 dollar or more. May not sound like a lot, but when you add it up with all the other increases it really adds up.
