This was the first airplane to offer passenger service in Guatemala. The routes were to cities in Guatemala that had no road access , such as Coban and Puerto Barrios. These were eventually replaced by C46 and C47 airplanes. The northernmost state (Petén) was mostly jungle but produced gum which was shipped to USA for Chewing Gum. The export port was Puerto Barrios located in the north east. The railroad to this Port was owned by the United Fruit Company. They shipped Bananas from the South Coast Plantations by train. Other freight was charged exorbitant prices , do it was cheaper to ship the gum by air. I remember flying in a C47

Great video!! My dad (yes, my dad) use to fly the Trimotors in the late 20s, into the 30s. He flew early airmail in the mid to late 20s (Jenny's)... first Detroit/Chicago, via stops throughout Michigan. Then, up/down the west coast (Ryans, Junkers, Fokkers), Seattle/San Fran and Sacramento/San Fran/San Diego. Made three jumps due to engine failure/out of gas, and two crashes, both of which he (obviously) survived. Then, early passenger/freight (TriMotors) in the Midwest and the West Coast. Early ALPA member, 3-time qualifier of Caterpillar Club, and one of the earliest 'Quiet Birdmen'. Also, considered one of the first IFR instructors. Of course, all this happened long before I was around. He was 20 years older than my mother, and I was last of three to be born. I’ve flown in the 4-AT a couple of times, here in Florida. Never gets old. Also, flew in a 4-AT to Put-in-Bay and the lake islands when I was a youth growing up in Toledo, OH. Want to fly on the 5-AT. I’m thrilled to see so much interest in the golden age of aviation that my dad was a part of. Too many things get passed up in the supersonic world of today.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Glad you enjoyed. Check out my B-17 flight from the same week at Oshkosh. It's a bit long, but it's the entire flight with some pretty good footage. Thanks for watching.

Riding the Tri-Motor really is one of the best values at Oshkosh. I also catch a ride every time it comes through town. Got to ride in the front right seat on one of those flights. I haven't been to Oshkosh in a few years, but I'll be there this year.
