      Hi Debra! I agree, when designing a pond one of my goals is to have the pond, or any water feature, look like it occurred naturally. Sometimes achieving that is a challenge.

    needs plants! needs lighting! looks a step above original, but not an inviting atmosphere. needs palms, flowers, lilys. ambient lighting, even underwater lighting around the edges. that would really, really make that pond spark!!

    This was awesome! I have a small red eared slider turtle, and in a year or two, when it gets too large to keep indoors without needing a 100 some odd gallon tank. I plan on making my own pond for it (though nothing nearly as large as the one in the video, I don't even think my yard has the amount of square footage as that pond.)

    That is a fantastic job! Can this pond also be swam in without hurting the liner? How long will this pond typically last before everything has to be pulled back out and the liner replaced? Thanks.

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Jason. The pond was not really designed for humans to swim in it, but it is big enough and 3' deep in most of it, so if someone chose to go into it and splash around they certainly could; and its nice filtered water. The liner has a manufacture rated 40 year life expectancy, but they can last longer when covered over and protected with rock and gravel.

      Hi Jamie, thanks for reaching out. There is no real standard for pricing on projects like these. If it were truly this type and size of pond you may be looking anywhere from $60K - $100K or more depending on how you approach the project. Looking through the comments, I was unable to find any questions in regards to the price that a job of this magnitude would require. With the 26,000 gallons of water, large and small rocks and stones, water feature, man power and hourly rates, etc. How much would a job like this or this particular one cost?
    Thank you

      Hey Kevin. As you guessed I can't say how much this particular project was because I can't disclose how much clients are investing in the projects. However a project like this would be in a range of $40K - $60K.

    what was the liner and its thickness used in this construction? Was there underlayment? Is there a particular type of liner you suggest for 100sqft type or bigger

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  8 лет назад

      Hello Rylee. On this project we used a 45mil EPDM pond liner, it is the industry standard and has a 40 year life expectancy. We used a geotextile underlayment material before liner was installed. For your 100sqft pond I'd still use the 45mil EPDM as liner.

    • @Decentralized_World1
      @Decentralized_World1 8 лет назад +1

      Can you list the expenses of a project like this in the order of most expensive to least. I'm thinking maybe i can cut down the price by getting some of the materials myself.

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  8 лет назад

      The rockwork and labor are the higher cost items, the materials like liner, filters, etc were less of a cost. The labor number does not matter since you are DIY, and labor varies from company to company. Rock was the biggest ticket item because of the large amount we needed, rock pricing can vary wildly depending on where you are located.

    I just stopped the video at 5:00. I was expecting at least one bottom drain to be plumbed and for the grading to allow dirt/debris to get to the bottom drain. Any reason why you chose not to include a bottom drain?

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 лет назад

      Hi Robert, the method of construction that we use does not require the bottom drain, however we do actually have subtle grading for maintenance purposes.

    • @robertkocher3534
      @robertkocher3534 7 лет назад

      Thanks for the reply Mike. I know you can't go into too much detail here, but considering all those trees, how is the homeowner getting those leaves out of the pond in November? I know you've got the pond recirculating almost once/hour (23K gal/hr of a 26K gal pond), but the skimmers won't be able to keep up in the fall.
      All in all, it's a beautiful renovation. Do you have a storefront in Summit? I have a friend that lives there. I'd like to visit your store when I visit him. Thanks.

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 лет назад

      Hi Robert. The pond gets covered during the month of October while leaves are really coming down because there is NO system that will keep up with the leaves. After the deluge of falling leaves the netting is removed and the skimmers do a great job of clearing surface debris during the rest of the year. We are based in Summit, but no storefront, my company has a warehouse that is not open to the public, but you'd be welcome to visit!!

      Hello Andrea. Pond projects of this scope can have quite a range depending on how you approach such a project. A realistic ballpark range using our construction methods would be from $60K+ Some projects like this could be much more. If you'd ever like to have a talk please just let me know! -Mike

    what do you estimate the total cost of this pond build at

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Noah. Ponds of this size can easily run $50K+ depending on exactly how the project is handled. Pricing is affected by many variables, and up to $70K would not be unusual.

    What I'm wondering is how the duckweed got so overgrown when there were koi in the pond the whole time.

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  6 лет назад +1

      There were no koi, no fish at all, prior to the renovation of the pond.

    looks great but once the alge will start to grow and you add fish the dirt will settle between the small stones and the water will never be so clean again

      I appreciate your dire prediction but I will disagree, these type of ponds have been successfully installed by my company for more than 20 years now with none of the issues you describe.
