Honestly despite the ridiculous premise of this film, they did show class divide pretty well, and are pretty damn realistic with how the world's elite and governments would react. 100% they'd leave us all to die while they hide away in a bunker or in this case, build giant ships capable of withstanding country-destroying tsunamis.
Idk, I would find it hard to believe china's political and economic elite would just cooperate with the rest rather than saving more of their own. The chinese communist party alone is massive, With so few arks I highly doubt they'd let the western elites on rather than all of their own elites first

Washington DC earthquake 9.4 even though there are no faults in the Chesapeake Area.(IX intensity as the ground doesn't shake that much despite the magnitude) 6. The rest of the earthquakes produced by the shifting crust are at the intensity of the chicxulub asteroid impact earthquake 66 million years ago which produced a whopping 13 magnitude earthquake, and produced mile high tsunamis, but this isn’t even possible anyway, because no fault or subduction zone could produce anything over a 10. Only something by impact like a landslide or asteroid could produce a tsunami of gigantic proportions.

Probably because it is such a small part of the movie. We don't get any time to get to know these people, they are only mentioned a small number of times and are only shown onscreen for about a minute of the movie. And the character who is related to them isn't that important himself. So yea, it's not that we don't care, it's just that there is so much other shit going on and so little focus on them, we're not given enough time to develop any real connection to them. When you hear about a disaster on the news but it's in a far off country, thousands of miles away from your door and it has no impact on your own life, you're not likely to care either. You think there aren't families who died or suffered where it happened? Ofcourse there are. But you don't see them, so you don't feel any empathy. To you, they are nothing more than a news report and/or a statistic. This is similar to that, if you ask me. They are just one victim among literal billions of others.
Was the part where they were talking about how the plates are moving and creating gigantic tsunami's a deleted scene, it kind of feels like info like that would have been relevant in explaining the mega-tsunamis

Absolutely loved this movie! I'm so grateful I saw it in a THEATRE and not STREAMING on TV! The opening where LA is destroyed was quite intense. You could feel the anxiety in the audience, and I remember being a bit outta breathe myself! 😳🥺

2012 is a guilty pleasure movie of mines. But Theres a series on apple tv called extrapolations that to me is a mlre realistic 2012 though its set in a modern timline and ends in the 2070's but it shows a more gradually series of climate disasters and catastrophes like below sea level cities like nyc being flooded over the next 2 decades and air quality from wildfires and pollution causing babies to have lung and heart defects, all large animals extinct, poverty rampant, etc. A more scary look at a disasters cause its death by a thousand cuts where as this it was a super fantastical global disasters.
Why would it be? Natural disasters don't give a fuck what religion you preach, what political persuasion you subscribe to or what you believe happens after you die, if anything. An earthquake does not discriminate. It kills the rich and poor the same way, should they both be unlucky enough to find themselves in the middle of one.
Cant help but notice the whole west and its most incredible accomplishments are destroyed yet africa is spared from all disasters in this movie, the narative is very clear when you know what your looking for.
Aside from North africa, the african coastline has some good distance from all its fault lines, so most quakes we experience here are only minor tremors. Most of the continent is also on a plateau, so tsunamis will never make it far inland if they were to hit

There are always earthquakes or at least tremors preceding a volcanic eruption. So it's more than likely that the Yellowstone would trigger something.
