The correct way to use a grease gun - How to load a MANUAL GREASE GUN

  • in this video I try to demonstrate the correct way to use a grease gun, in this case how to load a manual grease gun using a cartridge, then priming it and finally getting air out of a grease gun prior to use. bare in mind manual versions and others types that work by other means like cordless grease guns might have different processes and ways to load and prime them, so always consult the manuals and manufactures instructions to make sure you are following the correct way to use a grease gun under their specifications and instructions as failing to do this might result in damages and possibly injuries.
    Using a grease gun and especially loading a cartridge is one of them jobs I don't have to do that regular, and I think it is often the same for many people unless they work with machines that need greasing every day in which case their probably not searching how to load a grease gun properly on RUclips hahaha. However when I come to using mine I normally have to jog my memory because when the tool is set up wrong and has lots of air inside it is so so so frustrating trying to use it. so this video is where I will refer back to when I forget and need to remind myself the correct way to use a grease gun (probably after its not working properly and I give up in frustration haha )
    In this video I am using a manual grease gun, you will see how I load, prime and bleed the air out quickly and simply. basically just a short video on how to load a grease gun cartridge.

    Thank you so very much, I can't tell you how aggravating a grease gun can be from my perspective. I have chunked a couple, simply because no matter what I tried, it would not prime, but I wasn't aware you had to burp /purge the air out of it. Thank God for allowing you to make this video. Take care.

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  2 года назад +2

      To my knowledge its the volume the gun can take if looking at a grease gun or the volume that's in the cartridge.
      1cc - cubic centimetre is around the same as 1 millilitre. I think 🤔 might have to check on Google.

  • @swedishkev

    Dont get when youve screwed the tube in place you then push the metal rod thingy all the way in, so instead of gradually pushing the grease through like a silikon gun? You have pushed the rod all way through the grease??

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  3 года назад +11

      Ya the metal rod when you push it in is just a rod the part with the spring and rubber cone allows the rod to slide through it leaving the rubber cone at the back of the tube pushing the grease forward via the spring,

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  3 года назад +2

      If that makes sense

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  3 года назад +3

      In a silicone gun the rod and round base that pushes the silicone is 1 fixed piece of metal.

    • @RustyDIY

      Also worth checking if the 2 greases are compatible together as I would imagine you will have a slight contamination and if they react with each other or one is definitely what you dont want in what your going to grease then id get a second cheap gun

    guess what? I opened both caps of the cartridge and sucked the grease into the gun :) But looks like it’s supposed to be used with the cartridge inside otherwise there is too much clearance between the piston and the cylinder. Second time I used it wouldn’t work anymore and the moment I opened it all the grease was pushed out on my hand, a big blob 😂. Anyway I managed to grease the car like that, if you force the cylinder back then let it go again it’s possible it will push the grease to the pumping mechanism

      Are you pushing the rod back in all the way if not it can hold the spring back and dosnt allow the constant pressure against the grease to keep pushing it down

    • @RustyDIY
      @RustyDIY  3 года назад

      Or sometimes the rubber on the spring dosnt slot into the tube well and gets hung up at the top, if that's all OK then undo it a bit carful and see if you can get grease pushing out the threads a bit, then screw up tight and use the bleed nipple to clear to the head, and hopefully then should pump out OK
