In class I didn’t know we had to write notes when watching this video so I first panicked because we had to write about his life for homework and then I panicked some more because I forgot what St Ignatius’ name was. Then I remembered. Then I searched it up, found this video and now I can do my homework because I’m not in the mood for a detention
I remember the one time my teacher showed this video to our class during my early days in Grade School, around 2011-2013. I liked it so much that I searched for it in the Internet when I got home. Now here I am again, after all these years (I actually rediscovered this video years ago, but only now did I consider writing a comment). Thank you for making this, Jason!
"Man is created to praise, reverence, and serve God our Lord, and by this means to save his soul..." from Principle and Foundation of the Spiritual Exercises. The entire teaching and experience of St,. Ignatius is based on that. Mr Olive never mentioned it. sounds like St. I's work was a grand "be all you can be" program. The vid is well done but it omits the most important aspect of St. Ignatius. LOVE GOD! SAVE SOULS!
"Whether a student, professor, or staff member, you're part of a unique tradition in education that values critical thinking, social responsibility, and personal development for the betterment of all humankind. This isn't just a place to study, teach, or work. It's a state of being that is constantly evolving."
We use this video with different groups at Santa Clara. Do you happen to have a captioned version of it? The RUclips captioning leaves a bit to be desired.
+ElliPrefers Because when they are picked from the branch they have a seed (or pit) in their center. Similar to peaches, apples and even tomatoes and avocados for the same reason of having a pit or seed(s) in them, they are, technically, considered fruits!
Just few points. Are you clear about your statements. For example, Ignatius finding God in All Things? That is a bit contradictory to Catholic Teaching. Next, during that time period the Pope was having to take on all the malicious attacks from the Protestants. Thus Ignatius approached the Pope to add a fourth Vow of dedication to the Pope to assist with the doctrinal defense. Also, the Society of Jesus grew but there were requirements. Those Priests becoming members had to have been a priest for some time and demonstrated an ability to fulfill the Vow of the Society of Jesus. Also, the theme of this presentation is very Protestant.
"Finding God in all things" would only be contradictory to Catholic teaching if it were "God *is* all things." The former statement is an acknowledgement of God's glory; the latter statement is pantheism.
Does that mean the bigger you are the more of God you have? Let say an elephant has more of God according to your Protestant belief. As I understand, even the Protestant KJB God made everything out of nothing and not of himself.
If you're having a problem with "finding God in all things," then you don't have a problem with this video: rather, the problem is you don't have a clue about Ignatian spirituality, since that is far and away one of its most prominent themes. And if you think it's even remotely contradictory to Catholic teaching, well, it seems you don't have a clue about Catholic teaching, either.
Like if Dr. Gerald Griffin Reidy S.J.: Attorney at Law showed you this your freshman year in his Theology class. #Compassion #ReidysFreshmanClassOf2017
@mariap1919 Bottom line - You"re trying to justify bad behavior by using examples of bad behavior in defense of the Jesuits. By bringing up poor behavior of other orders or individuals who call themselves Catholic and in practise, are not, you're supporting my point. Unless of course you're a true believer in the Jesuits and think this is OK!
