We had a near-pristine planet then, and the worst problem we had was "litterbugs"! As usual, the problem was shunted onto the individual and industry was saved.

Hardly. Your government at that time and still currently was off invading and exploiting poor countries so you can have bananas and rubber.

57:52 If the voice sounds super familiar it's perhaps because you've seen Forensic Files a few times - it's the great Peter Thomas, apex narrator.

I guess the moral here is "To preserve nature we need to keep people away from it."
OH NO ... 34:28 ... lifelong Southerner here. Kudzu is not a good ground cover at all. It spreads across the surface, creating the illusion of cover but it does not hold soil down the way grass does. It grows fast (couple of inches a day!) and creeps for considerable distances from one massive taproot. It will climb trees, houses, telephone poles, anything in its way, and only puts down another root when it reaches the ground on the other side. A kudzu-covered hillside will still wash away underneath the dense foliage because the kudzu doesn't grip the soil. Engulfed trees die because they can't get any sunlight, and then you've got a dead-tree falling hazard. The kudzu is the only thing left alive after it takes over. I've seen large patches of woodland completely destroyed by this monster weed; my dad was in the forest service and one of his ongoing projects was a fight with a kudzu patch near Turkey Foot park in KY. You cut and you burn and you dig up the root and you think it's dead but the next year it comes right back. Importing it was a huge mistake.

20:55 "Here in America, 300 years ago, the oceans washed the edges of a continent almost untouched by man." Ah, the 'ole 'Nobody was here' lie.

The neighbors made a pact with satan offering their eternal souls, in order to grow beautiful flowers. That happens sometimes.

The planet is dying...this was such a long time ago and I wish we as a race could have done better. The planet will never look as it did in these days.

That background music at 8:00 in is so irritating. It sounds so much like the old Alfred Hitchcock theatre theme but not quite. Can't be a coincidence.

Oh, the irony of Ronald Reagan narrating on a subject he would go in to make worse. Regulations? We don't need 'em!
