Just don't speak too much Singlish , your English will surely improve. Speaking to different ethnic group also helps. You wont have a chance to switch back to Mandarin. There are lots of opportunity to learn English in Singapore without gg through courses. Of cos if you want professional help, you can always sign up for speaking class or writing class. Most important have fun learing n speaking English.
Will your English improve if you work in Singapore? Not necessarily... it depends on where you come from. If you're from England, your English will certainly get worse 😉But Jayden, you have a positive attitude towards language as a tool for effective communication 👍A good speaker is not always a good communicator.
Singapore 🇸🇬 is not consider an English speaking country. To be able to learn good English one must learn from others mistake made and converse with people who can speak well and watch English movies that’s how I improve my English.
I got to know from some foreigners who can’t speak and understand much English are not afraid to speak and learn in Singapore 🇸🇬 as they realised there are locals who could not speak well too.Singlish spoken by people are labelled by some as people who cannot speak English well.
In Singapore, you'll pick up Singaporeans' laziness in differentiating the short and long vowels such as pick & peak, sit & seat, tick & take and wok & walk. Second, you tend not to pronounce the 's' in verbs & nouns such as buys & dollars. Also, Singaporeans don't know the pronunciation of the past tense of verbs like picked, hoped & missed. They mispronounce eich (H) as heich, flour (flower) as flah, koh-lig (colleague) as kerlig. Their EL teachers don't teach them why it's an HDB flat, an MRT station and a university and a union when the rule says "use an before aeiou". Besides, like the Americans, Singaporeans don't make the difference between tank & thank, taught & thought, tin & thin, dough & though, den & then ... Taiwanese & Japanese cannot utter the th sound & so they pronounce thank you as san-kill. Now you can appreciate this joke ruclips.net/video/zkalf0odHs8/видео.html
