The 2 qt canteens are my favorite for airid climates. They went out of service before I joined in 05, my brother loved them in the 90's when he was in the 25th.
It's old tech, affectionately called a "Fat Rat" with 2 or 3 D-ringed to your rucksack in the Highlands in '68. Not fancy or ergonomic but kept you drinking, and didn't make a sloshing sound when you moved.
Yeah you can find those canteen carriers in surplus stores, and online in both new and lightly used for a decent price. The hard ones to find are the MOLLE carriers that attach to a pack or plate carrier. Rothco makes reproductions of those. I took two of those carriers that are Alice clipped on the back side so I have a total of one full gallon between the two canteens for my car for summer.
@@bizzlesnach yeah that wouldn't work, I hate backtracking through the woods to find stuff I've been dropping like Hansel and Gretel. Guess I'll stick with the czec gas mask bag.
Just got one 12/23 and it has wrappers from Kuwait bottled water in the purification tablet pouch.

Now that’s a canteen we don’t have. I do like the collapsing element to it.
I’ll have to go check out our surplus joint, last time I went down the canteen aisle it was just metal stuff from way back that was “collector” priced

You can use 550 to tie alice to molle of you take the clips off.
There's a surplus store close to me that has a ton of em. Thanks for the idea
That carrier would be a sweet possibles bag for hunting. I use a czec surplus gas mask bag at the moment but I'm digging that bag.
The bottom has to be heavier than the top or it tips over- the d loops are a wee bit too close to the center of the bag

@@Oldmanwithagoldpan yeah for a canteen that is no big deal but that may be a bad day for your only lighter and car keys
This dude is cool 😎🔥
Is the shoulder strap the original? Because i've seen others that are thiker.
It is not an original. The original has steel clips and is thicker, this one has cheap plastic clips. It works, but nothing spectacular.
I carried 2 on my ruck
can you use it as gasoline canister too, if the gasoline will be not stored inside for long?
It is very soft and flexible... I doubt it...
great idea
"The old ALICE days" made me laugh. Does no one carry two canteens?
the camel backs killed the working man's canteen
👀
