The denim once patched is so hard to sew being quite thick, i have used a GLOVERS needle for the same reason,its very sharp having three edges to cut through leather panel hide,i used it to do some leather patchwork jeans many years ago, black leather on blue denim looked real nice.

Awesome! So amazing work. I can imagine maybe you hurt from broken fingertips after working with a needle in several layers of fabrics like this... I know I do when I sew by hand in for example heavy denim or when knit too much. I guess it's about developing a thick skin and managing it because of the love for the handicraft. HIGHLY recommend. I picked one up about a year ago at New High Mart in LA and I wear it almost every day. Absolutely love their style so much when I can afford it.
What kind of sewing machine are you using? It says Japsew with double needles , 2 thread spools that makes a chain stitch with the loops on the top side. I've never seen this stitch on the top side before.
