For those of you wondering, deaf people play their music very loudly so they can feel the beat of the music. Have you ever been to a concert and felt the vibrations from the music because it was so loud? Same case here.
I was making a sales call ( I sell maps ) at the school for the deaf in Iowa. When I introduced myself to the secretary to find the proper person to talk to she informed me that " these students can't use maps, they're deaf". I am still in awe of how stupid that statement was.
Love school ACB ?

Who? Please give us name whoever told you in ISD.
Wow. How long ago was that?
There's a bilingual school in my city, where deaf and hearing students learn together using both ASL and English. I've been there, it's a wonderful place! I think it would be great if this type of school would become more common.
Not a bad idea! I think that that idea of yours should be applied to all 50 states, plus the territories.
I love that their all happy and have smiles on their faces :)
I once worked as a dorm parent assistant there. I was M on the hand for many pets. High School kids gave me my sign name. ISD and all the students and dorm parents and everyone there (nurses, the few teachers I would see in the mornings and yes my bosses) will have a special place in my heart forever.
To all the people below.....
I took ASL for 3 years in high school. I wish I'd taken it my 4th year, but I didn't. I know enough to sign casually with a person, because occasionally, some deaf customers come into work and order food. When I had to go to deaf events in high school, I was shaky signing with deaf people, meaning: I'd forget simple signs and have to fs everything. You don't need captions for the video, because they're not talking. It's just showing life on campus, how students and teachers interact, etc. I want to major in early child development and my dad says I should've had a major doing something with sign language, but it's not for me. I think it'd be cool to be a teacher to young deaf kids, but again, I forget signs easily when signing with deaf people. I did like learning about deaf culture though. My deaf customers are usually very polite about my mistakes though and glad I can understand them, at the least. And, actually, deaf events are very loud. I went to a deaf volleyball game... Just because they don't speak, doesn't mean what they're doing and what goes on around them isn't loud. I don't know about getting to classes, but in my ASL classes, I learned that they use flashing lights to signal for fire drills or something. And to to teach little kids they work at a big table and teachers pound the table to get students' attention.
I clicked on this video because I saw my brother-in-law on the thumbnail!! I have always loved ISD, my sister really loved it there and she met her husband there as well!
There are no words. The audio is guitar music.
Every Fart is 'silent but deadly'
this was fantastic. As someone who is studying ASL and planning to become an interpreter, very much appreciate something like this. My goal is to work in the deaf community.
i want go that school deaf i am deaf
just curious, do they know to go to class by a blinking light or what?

no it's not
I was there 1st grade to 5th grade, I was move to Minnesota at 2000. I miss my old school the ISD, I wish never moving I'm graduating in 2007 at the MSAD.
@SarahBrennan7 the alarm would be a rotating red light while the bell for next class would be a flashing light. some schools might just have the teacher tell them when to go, i went to a hearing school without a bell, we relied on the teachers to let us out. some schools might also have a noise to go along but i don't know enough to make that call
My old room was at the very end (from the outside).
I think ISD IS THE BEST SCHOOL EVER IT IS ONE OF THE MOST COOL SCHOOLS IN ALL OF THE U.S. AND TEACHERS ,WERE GREAT, SOME STUDENTS WERE, TOO, AND THE EDUCATION IS THE BEST, I GRADUATED IN 1986, AND AM PROUD TO HAVE GONE THERE , DON'T MATTER WHO LIKED ME OR NOT I, THINK MOST ALL STUDENTS WERE BASICALLY OK, TEACHERS WERE GREAT, AND I DO NOT REGGRET THIS SCHOOL , SEND YOUR DEAF CHILD HERE, BUT BE VIGILANT ABOUT KEEPING UP WITH HIS OR HER EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND GOINGS ON, PLUS LEARN SIGN AND BE INVOLVED, AND LOVE YOUR DEAF CHILD ....DEAF DOES NOT MEAN DUMB ,DIFFERENT, JUST MEANS UNIQUE AND LIKE A PERIL, PRECIOUS.
SO....REMEMBER ISD, BEST AROUND AND DEAF CHILD MEANS A PERIL OF A LOVE JUST FOR YOU TO LEARN ALL ABOUT !
porque la esconden ? DONDE ESTA?
@123nickiv yes i know that, my gf has deaf parents and even though they only talk when they have hearing guests over they are still loud with sign words whick requires them to smack their hands together and when they move stuff around
@123nickiv i understand...i mean even though i am hearing i still hear nothing but noise in their house, even though the parents are deaf but the kids (my gf and her sister) is hearing i still hear noise...but its just the parents told their teachers in the deaf college said the deaf schools are so much quiter than in a main stream school...so that is why i made that comment
Please add good CAPTIONS to this asap, for thousands of us who are deafened or hoh and do not use sign language, thanks in advance.

Hard of hearing kids enjoy music too!
@dk5388 yes and it makes a hell of a noise. at first you will think it is the fire alarm
I live in Illinois!
i bet that cafeteria is the quietest place ever
ASL class done, Sign language do. For those?
@dk5388 That's a big misunderstanding! Deaf people are not aways quiet. Keep in mind some of these kids are hard of hearing, so in turn you make as loud of noise as you can make to get ones attention (unless of course you can just flicker the lights). And if someone is sitting across from you offten times we bang on the table, as they will feel it. Some Deaf choose to speak orally too, and others might just laugh loud or make other noises and not know it. Trust me we can be loud! lolz.
Wow
Blinking light, waving hand, and stamp your feet is only used in the deaf community if you trying to get someone attention
Nice nahshon Smythe is running 🏃
@dk5388 Well, No I am deaf too, and that cafeteria was loud from movement chair so i pull out my hear aid
I've just moved into a house quite close to this place. Hmmmm....School for the Deaf... So there will be noise or there won't be noise? Difficult one to work out.
Yes noise.
Omg nahshon Smythe ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

@dk5388 sorry, had a long day, the teachers at the deaf college told the parents the cafeteteria was the quitest place...that is what i ment to say
If you believe that, I have oceanfront property in Oklahoma for you to buy :D Most events that involve the Deaf community are far from quiet. :) Last month, I went to a community dinner and the 20 of us sitting at the restaurant were louder than the rest of the folks dining near by. :D
1:53 she had head phones in
wow cool nice my deaf true
you know, some fucking sub titles would have been nice. Thanks alot.
ryan dick nope. We’ve been struggle with no subtitle even nowadays.
Why should we give a subtitle to hearing world when hearing world give us only 40% subtitle, not 100%?!
That is an insulting

Now, Why can't hearing children be admitted into these schools? I bet people with a heart for the culture would really appreciate any acceptance from the Deaf community.
It’s a place for deaf students to get the education they need. I could see maybe a few students like foreign exchange but hearing to deaf world. But that would have to be one per class at HighSchool level or less.
Subtitles: "music" - there are no spoken words.

Really? this is about a Deaf school so the video was made for deaf people. If you expect subtitles here you should expect them in every video.
I just wanted to say that I'm proud of you all & I'm hard of hearing myself so that being said I do know the feeling of being looked down by hearing people & on the job. But the good thing about being deaf or hard of hearing is that we can turn off our hearing aids so we don't have to listen to a hearing person BS mouth lol No hearing kids can't go to these school unless you deaf or hard of hearing. If you want learn ASL then u should college class or learn it yourself from a book store.
We all have to deal with people like that-hearing or deaf or whatever else.
i am from europe and in europe and other countrys outside of the usa the deaf people are not this lucky. i went to bulgaria one year with my sign interpreter and his wife is from there and we went to the first deaf school. must of tthe kids there where over 10 and just learning to read and write and use sign but as we walked around town alot people would look and stare at us because disabled people are not seen that much out in public there.
Shameful. Have things changed since then?
@dk5388 Ok. I hope I didn't come off as rude, I was just trying to inform because it is a "very" common misconception. lol. Anyway, thanx for the reply.
