Now this is a game that deserves a Definitive Edition remaster like AoE 2 got, with new 4k graphics and the likes. So advanced for its time, great mechanics and very unique nations and campaign system. Awesome memories.
@@StalkRay its more like aoe2 HD. Needs definitive edition with some more features and options as well as better AI. and even better graphics,, extended didnt really upgrade much, no 4k textures
Only those who played it know how excellent this game is. Feels like a pity not knowing anyone who also plays this, but at the same time it also feels like a hidden gem that few people know
I still remember going to the department store and seeing this game on one of the shelves. I was so mesmerised by the cover art and the theme. I even remember my dad had to buy a new computer so I could play this because the graphic card on the old one couldn’t handle it. Wow…
I play this game, literally always. I've been playing it since 2007 and have rebought it multiple times. Can't recommend enough. Thanks for playing Raptor!
They actually did make Rise of Legends, but I heard it wasn't great so I never played it. Edit: Lol. I was still watching and didn't know he mentioned it :)
To protect the shore from invasion, you can set ships to 'patrol' (with multiple waypoints). Ground units can also patrol. I like to have fast ships patrol (set to 'attack') with slower ships set to 'guard' the fast patrol boats -- they will follow behind. Helicopters are also good for patrolling; they can patrol land and sea..
@@istiak.hossain find your program files. 86. RON folders. Data. Open in notepad. Find what you want to mod. Save it. Run game. Instructions can be found online. My current mod is starting as a nomad build time takes longer. Buys me more time to explore and such. I also have 7 free scholars when I build a university for Americans. I also have free resources with every American soldier set to 200. Eliminates the need for farmers miners etc. I usually play as an American with a computer American and Egyptian opponent. Egypt I set to 95% price reduction on wonders. Makes it a race to build and prevent being overtaken by either team. Almost impossible to win when they team up. You have to be quick. I also set up the max population to 2,000 limit each opponent. If I play without cheating and they team up, I may be on age three or four and find myself nuked without warning. Have to be very aware and make all the right plays. Interesting games. The only thing that cannot be modded is the resource income level is capped at 999. Many detailed instructions online. Infinitely changeable. Happy playing.
Played this a ton while I was deployed in Iraq in 2004. We played on a local network in our bunker which served as our barracks. 4-6 of us would go nuts on each other. It was great. Come home from a mission and relax and try to conquer the world. Haven't played this game since we left there. I still have the disk. Fond memories.
Me and my brother have been playing this the last 2 years after not touching it for over 10 years. We need to petition big huge games to make a rise of nations 2! Keep everything that made the game so amazing! 😁😁
In your opinion, what does this game need? Like I’m asking myself what I would want from a RoN 2 but I don’t know what I would do differently or add, really. This game is pretty complete
Great game, great memories, and a surprise that the AI was able to overcome such an experienced player like yourself. Shows how good this old game is that the AI is a competent challenge.
unfortunately these older AI's dont really outplay you, they are just given more buffs as you up the difficulty, like faster research, faster resource gathering etc... tactically they suck
Actually he played like more of a novice. Didn't put Scholars in Universities, didn't upgrade through infrastructure and military buildings, didn't have Siege units to attack, and apparently wasn't familiar with recent changes. But it was fun watching him get nuked, haw!
If I remember right for every library you have you get a research slot so if you have 5 libraries you can research 5 different library techs. Super useful for rushing.
A map needs to be cleared in 30-40 minutes on Moderate difficulty or higher for succession. The computer can sometimes get really aggressive and pull of an quick territory win even if one playing with a solid tempo. But then again, RoN is a game were you need to lose to get better.
This is absolutely the best RTS ever, still more than 20 years since I started playing it. The expansion Thrones and Patriots only made it even better! I love this game soooo much! Rise of Legends was great too! It had 3 different fictional factions to choose from. All with different benefits.
Reminds me of Empire Earth a lot. That was a very similar looking rts. It was so much fun. It wasn't as macro/micro intensive as AoE2. It was maybe a bit more arcadeish. It was awesome.
I like the story of your teacher buying you the game. my 7th grade teacher also worked at Barnes and Noble on weekends and would give me books when I would get better than a B+ on my tests.
Ah, my favourite RTS game of all time. I first played it in 2009, I was a lad of 7 and had found this beauty. I've loved it since then. Heavily underrated. I'm surprised that this didn't catch on as much as age of empires, with the amount of love and quality that went into it
Love this game. Played it so much as a kid. Recently I got a friend to play with me in a 2 v all hard A.i. I think I was playing nubians or Dutch. One of the ones that gets massive trade buffs. Basically became and economic powerhouse and just gave him tons of recourse I got from manipulating the economy. I invested in a military far too late and got invaded lol. No switzerlanding allowed
i'd say this and dark reign the advanced menu in dark reign that most players don't even know ... makes the strategy and micro part of the game so good it beats the microing of every other RTS game in existence
Welp, I must say it is ONE OF the most underrated ones. The Entente: Battlefields of WWI is way more underrated, actually. But yes, this also deserves a lot more attention that it got, gets and will get. 😊
When we were still children we thought of combining Age of Empires and Generals: Zero Hour. Well RoN happened and it is the best RTS fans of both series could ask for. I hope this game would get its own definitive edition now that we are a few months away from Age of Mythology Retold's release.
it feels like this game is a bit of a hidden gem. there are not even many videos about it tbh, which is disappointing. its honestly one of the best rts of all time imo. up there with c&c, warcraft, starcraft, etc.
I remember playing this when I was 1 year old and I loved it ever since I got this game again on my new PC couple weeks ago and I am reliving the memories.
Somebody, please do RoN 2! And add this feature for solo mode: randomized AI opponent capacity for randomized stretches of a game. Perhaps, Easy difficulty would have strong AI for 5% of an average timed game all the way through percentages up to none for the Toughest difficulty. How "strong" should strong be? Perhaps, there could be features to select the difficulty percentages and the length-of-game times. Perhaps, there could be an in-game announcement that some opponent has raised a formidable army and now has some reason to come gunning for you! Good stuff!!
Best RTS ever hands down, we need a Rise of Nations 2!
Yeah! The ability to get advanced to further ages like more modern or close future, could be awesome to build mobile ICBMS
This and RA2, stronghold crusader is my best strategy
Seriously I am a big fan of RTS just like age of empire and rise of nations.
😎
We do.
