    The thing I like about Warren is that he always shows the good the bad & the ugly. I've been wrenching for close to 30 years, and days like this one youre always anxious to forget, but Warren immortalizes them on video, instead. He is definitely THE MAN-

    My method of removing them,,
    I use a factory ford converter shipping strap,,the ones that come with a Ford remanufactured transmission,I install it onto converter with two nuts and use two pry bars to pry it out between case mounting flange,,
    Always worked for me,
    Sometimes you have to bust the front bushing out of the pump when converter hub is stuck to bushing.
    Takes a lot of pressure and best done with trans on the ground

    i always send these transmissions out just because of this. remans are 2000.oo 3yr 100000 mi warr, i also use to rebuild trans. the tooling has got out of hand and with these new elc trans you have to almost dyno them to tune them. so sorry to see you go thru this. i fine good used one's for 900 with 30,000 miles on them......my opinion junk it your have more labor , labor in cleaning, parts to buy +what you have in it up to now, as to buy one ,cut your loss and move on to some thing that makes $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ and not so painful to look at

  • @psavel274

    Warren, you need a slide hammer. The foot plate that threads in and bolts on would probably not have enough diameter, but a couple simple plates with your welder and you could probably yank it out as well.

  • @nextlevelgamez9243

    I used to rebuild torque converters. When the torque converter was welded back together the depth of the inner half was probably not set correctly. This can make the convertor go to far into the pump after installation. Also the welding process may have been off center. The run-out on a reman torque converter should always be checked before installing the transmission.

In which case as soon as it quit moving forward . Hooked my jeep with a 12000 pound wentch and used the transmission as an assist to pull backwards. There was no real sighn of a problem till we went to move forward to get the front tires back on top. The rear tires were on solid ground. It just quit moving. Ive got 40 years of transmission work under my belt. So here i am in camp putting a front pump and torque converter in

    If I wanted to try and save the TC to show the shop who built it I think I would have fabricated a heavy puller frame that bolted onto the bell housing and made up some long threaded studs that wound onto those studs and draw it through the frame nice and straight, not sure how the studs on the converter would have held up but I suppose if you pick up on four of them you have had half a chance. Or use the torch.

    Common Problem Builder Error Either buy special tools to line up pump or transgo kit 5r1-pump-align also clean matting surfaces at block and trans case so you get a good ground clean battery cables and add extra ground pump bushing should be.002-.004 tight is bad on this pump Over fill trans on initial startup so you don't run it dry

  • @justingeraldi2304
    @justingeraldi2304 4 года назад +2

    I have personally seen this many times,,on e4od/4r100/5r110w family of transmissions.
    Since it happened on initial test drive after rebuild,,it was either;;;
    1=if you replaced the front pump bushing,many aftermarket bushings are too tight and provide less than , .001of bushing clearance,,which will seize bushing to hub in real short order.
    2=if you didn't get the pump perfectly lined up,it will cause this,,
    Some of these pumps are mismachined and will fail unless you use the newer method and tool to align from stator.
    3=a bad engine ground,,always run an additional ground from drivers side motor mount bolt to drivers side negative battery terminal.
    Cost about 9.00 for a 4 foot section of #4 ground wire at most auto parts stores.
    4=the converter wasn't installed all the way and you bolted the trans up,,this forces the converter hub into the inner drive gear out of alignment and will break it.
    5= the converter had to much run out
    6= inner pump gear was worn/notched from years of running increased line pressure and it didn't mate to New converter hub properly.

    I guess the pump seized which then spun the shaft for the tc. If the torque converter seized it wouldnt spin in the pump, the pump would just keep spinning. Plus all the damage to the pump shows it was having problems.

      @@westerntruckandtractorrepa1353 hell no. I've seen enough of your work to know that the chances of this being your fault are pretty darn low. I'm thinking maybe a defect in the pump gears or maybe something wrong with the pump drive on the TC which let the rotor of the pump rattle around and maybe cause the drive to spin in the pump too. Or possibly a something got into the pump and seized it. Not sure.

    • @westerntruckandtractorrepa1353
      @westerntruckandtractorrepa1353  5 лет назад +1

      I don't think it was something inside the tc , I think something wasn't right with the converter drive flange. It had almost 300 psi on a stall test which tells me the pump didn't seize. Hell we drove it in there. I think it was milled to small and let the pump rattle.

    My butt was puckered over half this video !!!!! 😳 Did not know what was going to happen first. Hammer busting the case !! or when the TORCH came out !! Would it be a FIRE and bring the shop down OR the Trans hitting the floor because of heat expansion causing the convertor to let go !!! Glad it is over !!😅

      Same here. I figured that the converter was full of oil and would blow back sticking to his face.
      I've seen it happen on other containers.

    Pump is the problem, no oil to it

    Probably not the converters fault. These transmissions will have a ground issue once removed and reinstalled. Clean the surface of the block and bellhousing, put at least a quart of fluid in the converter before installing it, and add an extra ground wire to the trans to be safe. It sounds crazy but I've seen it before, it sources a ground through the pump and will weld the pump gears to the plate. There is information on line about it also.

    I would have made a pulley out of square iron and tried screwing it of there.

      Yeah, I'm 40 miles from town, so I'll drive an 80 mile round trip to buy more materials and lose more money and more time , I do have other things to do. I don't have every tool or material right next to me.
