All right, hear me out: So, the beginning of the route is the branching point of two timelines. There is one in which Lanque is an emotionally manipulative prick, and one where he is a kind(?) poet. The narration in the former is harsh, while the latter’s narration feels more neutral. The timeline with Prick Lanque has the “good ending”. But you can get another ending from Poet Lanque, called Valid End, where you don’t befriend him at all. This, not being the good ending, is not canon. In the epilogues (spoilers, by the way) there are two paths. In one, the story takes a more grimdark tone. The main narrator is shown to not be objective, and he is a prick who really likes making things about the smexxytimes. This is the “canon” epilogue. In the other, the narration remains relatively objective, neutral until the very end. In this path-which is very non-canon-original characters are introduced, time passes, melodrama happens, and character arcs are made. Though mostly irrelevant to the plot, it exists. It may not matter to Paradox Space, but it matters to the readers. Candy was the Valid End of the epilogues. Meat was the Good End (though one could argue that it didn’t end well, or even end at all). V, you sneaky, sneaky human.
The way the fourth wall was completely absent at the start, the way the first segment made me think "alright yeah why not" and the sheer whiplash I got on the second segment just hit me like a bat to the jaw. I am speechless at the writting on this episode. I'm torn, you know. It's is absolutely impossible the first Lanque is the intended character, it's "too good to be true" but also I DO NOT want to accept the second Lanque. Although his character was a blast and I enjoyed the episode, out of all the pieces of shit you befriend in the game he's got to be up there with Zebruh.
I'd say right above Zebruh, because Zebruh is an ignorant asshole, while Lanque is a deliberate asshole. You can fix ignorance to a degree but intended assholery is unstoppable.

I get what you're saying, something I've taken into account that may not have been intended (or maybe intended by V (or is it W I forget the writer)) there was a lot of outside factors to the way he acted, being a jadeblood forced to work in the caves, almost old enough to be sent off planet, being gossiped about by his only mutuals, being drunk and probably on drugs. His reasoning for being the way he is, as scummy as he may be, does have a bit of weight to it. I probably would be a bit less irked by him being this way if we did get another trans character, honestly it wouldn't be hard since they obviously don't make a big deal out of sexuality / gender (shown by elwurd and charun) I'd hope the personality wasn't assigned that way because he is trans, but unfortunately I'm starting to see it may be so.
Another point someone brought up is that Lanque isn't the only troll to act this way, we have a ton of creepy douchebag trolls, it just so happens this one was trans. (Though I'll admit maybe the sex stuff was a bit much.)

HOLY SHIT, okay, so blah-blah he's a horrible jerk blah-blah, BUT HOLY SHIT was this entertaining, like I get why people don't like that route, I get why people hate him, and I totally see him as an awful, horrible person, but I'm not even mad, because it was fun to see him be a petty, purrbeast-y little bastard. I would totally throw hands with him irl, but as a character I love him. I loved both his routes, a be it for different reasons 8.5/10 surprised but not disappointed.

I get what you're saying, something I've taken into account that may not have been intended (or maybe intended by V (or is it W I forget the writer)) there was a lot of outside factors to the way he acted, being a jadeblood forced to work in the caves, almost old enough to be sent off planet, being gossiped about by his only mutuals, being drunk and probably on drugs. His reasoning for being the way he is, as scummy as he may be, does have a bit of weight to it. I probably would be a bit less irked by him being this way if we did get another trans character, honestly it wouldn't be hard since they obviously don't make a big deal out of sexuality / gender (shown by elwurd and charun) I'd hope the personality wasn't assigned that way because he is trans, but unfortunately I'm starting to see it may be so.
Another point someone brought up is that Lanque isn't the only troll to act this way, we have a ton of creepy douchebag trolls, it just so happens this one was trans. (Though I'll admit maybe the sex stuff was a bit much.)
