Honestly one of my favorite Stands because it is a Stand about PTSD. Who would have even thought about making a stand about PTSD, amazing story writing.
I think that when Araki was designing Civil War he might've taken a direct inspiration from the actual American civil war where the industrial North (represented by the metal mask) fought against the agricultural South (represented by its root legs)
Thats not civil war's ability. His real ability is to bring back stuff you've left behind, like Johnny left his ruler, books or a knife and they all manifedted
@@5aar422 Well the stand also manifests Sins or it's ABILITY IS bringing Sins back thats Why When you kill SOMEone When the ABILITY IS activated than this person gets resurrected because of that sin or how Axel said that person lives in THAT sin.
I think the passive nature of Civil War is in reference to his own past, since by his inaction the town he was supposed to be defending burnt to the ground.

Here's some additional points about Axl RO's namesake which I think were overlooked: RO can be used as an acronym for "Retired Officer", among others, but that seems the most relevant given he is a former soldier. In terms of his namesake Axl Rose I think it is most likely due to how the real life Axl was the only constant remaining member of Guns N' Roses, the last survivor of sorts, just like Axl RO in terms of his company.
If you're looking for references to characters in the song's lyrics the line "You're power hungry, selling soldiers in a human grocery store" is the perfect summary of Valentine's role in the fight
"So many well-done villain characters" Shows Diavolo, doesn't show Pucci or Valentine, classic Meti. Unless the implication is that those aren't villains at all, lul.
I'm not sure of people noticed this or anything, but even though Axl R.O. was named after the (in)famous frontman of Guns N' Roses, Johnny Joestar bears an eerie, but somewhat close resemblance to the actual Axl Rose himself.
I think the roots on the legs of Civil War could represent the fact that Axl just sat there and watched the town burn to the ground instead of putting the signal lamp on.
Araki confirmed that Dio and Giorno have blonde hair and that's it, but I assume that stands with colors in their names have said color (like Hierophant Green and Purple Haze)
Water dissolving the membrane is most likely baptism but I like the idea that it’s because Axl Ro found comfort in a drink and that his guilt melted away with the liquor
4:15 dunno if anyone else said this but maybe the roots in civil war can also represent how Axel was stuck to his post that day his post being basically a tree house and didn't move to action as trees have deep roots to keep them from moving for a more literal meaning on the appearance of his stand
Maybe the reason Civil War has an N/A in destructive power is because Axl Ro’s cowardice manifests in an inability for him to command his stand to physically attack someone the way other stands can punch people
Same here, I originally hated it due to its weird design but after learning it's powers, the users backstory and hearing the song it was based on it is now my favorite stand of all time
Civil War is one of my Favorites from the "Ballads" Collection of GnR. Civil War's legs are shaped like the trunks and roots of a tree and the experience that awakened it occurred while Axel Ro was hiding in a tree stand. Also the stand can separate into several pieces which could be a literal version of Axel "Fallng to pieces".
Diavolo and Risotto are like Valentine and Diego in a lot of ways. something I don't understand about this fight is that Axl Ro is revived after being killed by johnny. Doesn't johnny have the dark determination and all that crap? Why does he feel guilt for killing the guy stealing the corpse? Doesn't make sense to me
His stand power is based around guilt, it's not too big of a leap to make. Besides, Johnny isn't a cold-hearted killer, most people even in war feel guilty about the people they kill deep down, especially since its his first kill(iirc)
Well you could argue civil wars powers are also based on regret as well, regret and guilt have a major difference, if it was regret bring him back then axel could be brought back to life by say if someone killed him and that action comes to bite them on the ass they would regret it but not feel guilty, that's just a possibility I'm not fully sure of
the stand is not based on guilt as we see when he kills johnny, it's not that he felt guilty, it's that it's a sin. the stand is based on the user's sins
It’s not based on guilt, anything you sacrifice is what it’s based on. Like the knife Johnny discarded. You wouldn’t feel guilt about discarding a knife, right? Yet it still attacked him because he “sacrificed” it.
