If improvement is possible, why not look into it. As a taxpayer, together we're making an investment, or forced to, toward our safty, pride should not overstep that. Let's be THE BEST!
Yes, the F35 has problems BUT the pilots LOVE it and almost every pilot that transitions from the older jets say they never want to go back to the older jets. Why? Because of the huge amount of information the jet gives the pilot!! They get a sphere of information (from hundreds of miles) on top of the forward-facing radar. I saw an interview of a pilot that was asked what he would do if he was being chased by a faster jet (IF they could even find the F35). He said he would look over his shoulder, target the pursuing jet in his helmet, and fire a missile at them. That's right the new missiles can make a U-turn and hit a fighter pursuing from behind the F35 and take them out. That's incredible. So how many older jets would be killed compared to the F35? Tests show as many as 20 would be killed compared to a single F35 being killed. SO that makes it FAR cheaper compared to, say, 20 F16s that would be killed while only a single F35 being lost!!!
The vertical thrust system requires a big compromise in aerodynamic performance. Only 9% have VTOL, but all share its chunky, inefficient fuselage design.
I do not usefully agree with Elon (diesel head), but he might have a point this time.😊 In my opinion it’s perfectly ok to be a critical costumer of a product
Elon Musk is not a defense expert. He certainly is not a fighter pilot, nor is he a defense expert. The F-35 is the most successful 5th Generation Fighter on the planet right now, and that is just fact. Now that so many have been built the price is down to Gen 4.5 manufacturing unit cost. We should be building the heck out of the F-35s in all versions, particularly the F-35Bs and F-35Cs...IMHO!
Well, if Elon ever decides to join the military, I hope he brings SpaceX tech with him! But for now, the F-35s are indeed a solid choice for our defense needs.
I guess you missed the memo , it must have been above your pay grade ha ha ha . Jokes aside “ Matt geatz confronts airforce officials on the failed f35 program “ I suggest you watch the admission 3/4 of the f35 fleet is grounded and that’s by the guy who runs the fleet ( listen to who Matt uses as a evidence ) . Before you go off saying it’s the best, am trying to save you further embarrassment if you say it again .
The key word is *potential.* The F-35 has the potential to provide fantastic military capabilities in future warfare. *_But it's not here yet._* Technology for the sake of technology is impractical thinking. Military spending without bounds is foolish and irresponsible. When nearly half the F-35 fleet experiences downtime, that potential capability is wasted. Military equipment has to be *reliable.* It cannot fail unexpectedly in combat.
Nose radar in video is MIG 35 jet, not F-35 ✍✍✍ Ask Musk what is his alternative to F-35...?!🤔🤔🤔 I thing Musk want piece of cake of military program or half of those program money or military jets (5 generation) without pilots.. Is Lockheed Martin gonna accept Musk Challenge?🤔🤔🤔
You need 3 point communication and the felon needs only two . It’s full AI , pilot assist and piloted ( Lockheed announced last week “ we going to design pilot assist “ what like Russia had a decade ago but it’s still better ) $400k helmet has never been issued , not once . Proposed Mako missile is 7 years in development and still not built a full size prototype ( can’t till they get more investors ) .

The aircraft in question was designed to be an extension of AWACS involvement/engagement.
Mysk just thinks th future is unmanned platforms. This why he hates it.

"successful?"
could you define that?

Musk needs to stay in his lane and be quiet about that which he knows not.

Was the goal here to produce a long video? How many times do you repeat information?
