Exactly what I was thinking over the course of this match. This guy was freakin impenetrable! Insane shots and shot selection coupled on top of ridiculous defense and stamina the whole time.
Never seen anyone saying that. I only found people who said that's it's unfair that Federer plays at nightime all the time but others have to play in those hard conditions. Novak can stand the heat very well so I dont think it changed that much. He would have lost anyway, Chung played amazing tennis, and Novak served horribly and im not sure if he's fully recovered from the injury already. Also i would like to see how Federer would hold up if he played at Thursday daytime, I mean like that was the only day when it was really hot.
federer is the most coward player of all time...skipping french open to avoid beating from nadal...his face is as ugly as his character...everytime fuckerer loss, so many excuses, the surface, the health, the age and so on
First off everyone needs to calm down about Djokovic. He's not done lol. Yes, he's had injury issues lately which is why he doesn't look like the guy we know, but he's still relatively young with low mileage on him compared to Federer and Nadal (who is my favorite). I wouldn't count out Novak so easily. Next, Chung is elevating his game to new heights. He doesn't actually have any spectacular high-risk shots for winners, but what makes him so good is that he's so steady. He commits very low unforced errors and he'll basically return the ball to you until you make the mistake. I think he has a very solid game to be top 10 regularly but I don't see him being the next dominant champion or anything like that. He'll need to add more high risk shots to his game and hit stunning winners rather than just out baseline everyone he faces. Still, what a great run he's having.
Your description of Chung could well be written for Novak. Baseline, machine-like players who can return anything and wait it out until you make a mistake.
Some actually get better after 27 (think about Stan Wawrinka). But I know what you mean in general. 30 is really not that old for tennis still. Federer is 37 this year and he's won about 7 slams from 28 yrs onwards. It's more about health and mileage. If his elbow problem is not as big as everyone thinks it is, he can still have a very dominant few more years and easily amass a handful more slams. If his elbow really is incurable, then it's a sad story because he'll probably have to retire young.
There was no angle in Djokovic hitting , just racquet rotation for around first 20 shorts. And isn't it obvious chung backhand isn't difficult but his Forehand cross court is dangerous!!
Djokovic is a shadow of his former self. He lost his accuracy in first serve even though speed is intact. The elbow problem meant his forehand lacked his usual zing and his baseline play was exposed. Further he was not moving properly. I think 6 months off and still injury didn't heal, now it is prudent to explore surgery. I don't know why did he rush if he was not 100% fit. He may have aggravated it. Anyway Chung was beautiful. I agree with zevrev when he said he was relentless like Nadal. An exiting prospect is on the stage.
Am I the only who finds these endless games from the baseline boring? No shot-making, no runs to the net, no serve and volley, just a back and forth that eats time and joints.
They want to win, not just put up a show for the audience. True tennis players don't play for money, but because they love tennis. Prashanth Murali maybe if you played tennis you would know.
I suppose u say the same about basketball if u do watch it... u r the kind of person who finds regular jump shots boring and want dunks and alleyhoops all the time right?
Chung played beautiful
ㅇ
Champion in the making

3 years later, Novak is still the king..
and not sure what happened to Chung.. he looked really talented with solid strokes.
Chung has been struggling with injuries for years.
Chung plays similar to Djokovic...Let's hope Djokovic gets back 100%....Congrats to Chung the future looks bright for the nextgen star...

This man gonna make A.Zverev life very difficult for the next coming decade at least. Lols.
"If Djokovic plays nighttime like Federer he'll always win. Put Federer on daytime, and he'll loose" - Djokovic fans say.
Well... *oops*
djokobitch fans are just funny to laugh at
Fei Li To the point. LoL

Do people really think Federer fans would be any better if it had been the other way around?
federer is the most coward player of all time...skipping french open to avoid beating from nadal...his face is as ugly as his character...everytime fuckerer loss, so many excuses, the surface, the health, the age and so on

Chung is the first Asian player with the right height and strength needed
to be an elite top 3 player in the world and remain there for a long time.
Chung won!!!!! He is gonna be a champion in just a few years.
Or in a week ? lol

breakaway2x he will beat everyone on clay, even Nadal ....as Nadal ages.
Your description of Chung could well be written for Novak. Baseline, machine-like players who can return anything and wait it out until you make a mistake.
Djokovic doesnt have a shot like that either and he dominated. Chung has incredible potential if his body holds up
He's 30 ~ that ain't really young in sports. Men start going downhill from 27

I can not believe it ..
I did not know a Korean player would win Djokovic.
amazing..
Always fun when a break out player is revealed during a GS.
I hope Chung and Federer reach semi-finals... that would be a very interesting match, too.
And there he goes.. Sent home in straights :/
It's like two rubber bands rallying against each other.
He's way better than zverev
35 shots actually
36 shots, not 33
Djokovic just got beaten by a young version of himself
Dear AO organizer..
Why u deleted "the grand slam of Asia Pacific" in the AO logo?
Please put it back on. Thanks.
The sleeve Novak is wearing, does it actually help? Just a curiosity cuz he's still going thru his elbow thing but would the sleeve actually help?
Counting the serve, there was 36 shots
alonsoJah yep 35 actually ;)
Chung spoiled the fun of federrer beating nole
aleksandar macedonian if he plays this way Chung will beat fed lol
Vincent Prakash that is if federer beats berdych
aleksandar macedonian Which he did. Chung is next to go home.
Federer would obviously beat Djokovic now. So how is that fun
Hey y'all. Djokovic won Wimbledon, the US open, and beat Federer in Miami. Federer just lost to John Millman. I think Djokovic is doing pretty good.
Chung is the new young Lleyton Hewitt.
I feel like getting a white oakley glasses now
WOW
The rally length is 35 shots. Not 33.

35 shots*
Djokovic was playing a mirror of his younger age

There was no angle in Djokovic hitting , just racquet rotation for around first 20 shorts. And isn't it obvious chung backhand isn't difficult but his Forehand cross court is dangerous!!
Guess what! King Roger played day session & won in straight, Djoker played night session & lost in straight also

Chung said Nole is his idol.
Djoker Epoche is nearly over. His body and Mind are dissolved. May be lost strength.

Novak had elbow surgery just after AO2018. it explains everything.
Novak was hurt, his body can't sustain !
Novak playing against a younger version of himself. #babynole
Novak lost a lot of his power in ground strokes... not enough protein in his diet.
Djoker era is come to an end, hes ranked 14 now, he will keep goind more down. Time to retire man
Yeah right lol
King Nole will come back, he wasen't in his best form.
Djokovic era never ends, because Chung is a 21 year old Djokovic!
Lol. In 2016 both Federer and Nadal heard the same and 2017 was their.
Jokevich is history
Am I the only who finds these endless games from the baseline boring? No shot-making, no runs to the net, no serve and volley, just a back and forth that eats time and joints.
that is why novak gets injured alot he doesnt go for the kill no wonder he is boring it is ineffecient
Enter Federer a man full of variety. He has much to teach these young bloods.
They want to win, not just put up a show for the audience. True tennis players don't play for money, but because they love tennis. Prashanth Murali maybe if you played tennis you would know.
