    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  6 месяцев назад

      For sure! It seems like not just HLG but also PNSO have had rather less flamboyant frills in their more recent ceratopsians. I certainly hope the next one will deviate from this!

  • @thomasmonroe7947
    @thomasmonroe7947 6 месяцев назад +1

    I’m pleased that HLG is providing the smaller sized ceratopsians as well as the giant sauropods. The prices are affordable even for their larger 1/35 offerings. I’ll always be a PNSO fan but HLG is setting the bar a little higher.
    And, as Tamiya did with their dinosaur kits and other manufacturers, doing a mixed lot of 1/35 figures of even smaller dinosaurs is very possible and something I’d love to see PNSO or HLG tackle.
    Your in depth quality over quantity videos are still the best.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  5 месяцев назад

      Thanks for your kind words!
      Well I think that HLG is definitely catching up in all ways that mean something to most people. There is still a very obvious refinement in PNSO over HLG in terms of detail and especially paint application, but they are really really close.
      HLG I feel has the risk of becoming too derivative in their colour choices though. They have more colour than PNSOs, but their palette is remarkably similar. I am also not the fan of the 'stencilled' look in both variants.
      I wouldn't be surprised if HLG stepped up to the challenge of giving us more commercially 'risky' dinosaurs. They seem to be where PNSO used to be a few years ago in terms of giving us really diverse choices, and their herbivores are really some of the best.

    • @thomasmonroe7947
      @thomasmonroe7947 5 месяцев назад

      I like HLG’s direction for the most part. We’ve been carnivore heavy for years and I don’t think I can justify one more T rex (Eofauna’s is tempting)but to have a company producing, past and future, such an exceptional number of herbivores is welcome. The fact that we’re seeing good 1/35 representatives of sauropods is exciting. There’s been such a lack of scale consistency that I quit picking up sauropods almost completely. As to HLG sculpts, they seem to be ramping up improvements and are more “in focus” as achieving similar PNSO accuracy. Not quite but respectable.
      As to HLG paint apps…..I’m reminded of what was probably late WW2 German tank and armament paint apps that all followed a basic stenciled plan of camouflage but, in the case of representing dinosaurs as living creatures, there’s a lack of balance or uniformity as you see in extant animals. Stenciling is fine but the paint apps need to be refined and moved away from Tiger Tank mottling and incoherent spotting.
      Beyond that, what HLG is creating is pretty damn good. And, if I find fault with paint apps, the “canvas” is in front of me. Repainting will ensue.
      Looking forward to more bargain meals while adding more HLG sauropods to my collection.
      Take care.@@DinosDragons

    • @thomasmonroe7947
      @thomasmonroe7947 5 месяцев назад

      I think the key point I was inferring as to HLG’s paint apps is the lack of symmetry found in nature. Sometimes they work, more often, nope.

    Mine arrived a few days ago. I bought both and am very happy with them - I'd wanted a good Chasmosaurus for a long time now. While I like the brown, the green is much more striking and individual looking. And you are right - it would be so much better if Haolonggood created separate colour patterns for the two versions. I usually buy both colour ways and it would look much better on my shelves if they were differently patterned.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  6 месяцев назад

      The thing is, their earlier Nasutoceratops, and even Apatosaurus, did have different patterns between their two variants. I wonder how much they would really save by using the one pattern template for both. It certainly looks odd if you want to create a herd.

    This animal also was a big part of my childhood that I forgot completely about, it was everywhere in my books showing differences with triceratops and other ceratopsians, this is a nice small model and it also can fit in my dinosaur park formation figure group, I wish in next reviews you try to compare more contemporary animals, for example in chasmosaurus case with pnso lambeosaurus, parasaurolophus, gorgosaurus, daspletosaurus, haolonggood Edmontonia etc. but it's OK because I have the haolonggood sinoceratops in hand and the 4 pnso ceratopsians you showed so I think I still have a very good idea for its size
    I'm always pleased with pretty and small 1:35 figures

    Good to see your review of this model. I am not sure if I should get it, because I am a bit concerned about this rougher surface texture. This was holding me back from getting the Pentaceratops and Nasutoceratops and when the Kosmoceratops and Sinoceratops came out with much finer texture I was very happy to see this. And many people have praised this improvement. I just do not understand why they have made the Chamosaurus with rougher texture. Maybe they had the molds already prepared at an earlier stage but released other models first. Hopefully this will not mean that all future ceratopsians from Haolonggood will have this rougher texture. There have been rumors about a Chasmosaurus coming from PNSO this year, so I feel like I should wait a little bit and see if this turns out to be true.

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  6 месяцев назад

      Actually, the size still is smaller than the Nasutoceratops, though still larger than some parts of the Sinoceratops. It's a bit of a challenge with smaller animals, and in fact most scalation on these models are too big. But any smaller, and they might as well be smooth like with EoFauna's dinosaurs. I'm pretty sure though, that this isn't going to be a new trend. At least I hope not!

      I already reviewed the Alatreon Figure Builder. Did you mean the Creators Model? I'm a bit divided...the wings look way too small in the release images!
      As for the EoFauna T Rex, I have only seen one oblique angle shot of the head, so I think it would be unfair to judge based on that. They are following a gummier model, but I do feel that exposed tooth points could be sharper. but just one photo, no one should make any judgements yet.

      @@DinosDragons hi, yeah I meant the creators model. I agree about the wings, it feels as though they should reach higher on the wing tips and upper membrane but I'll have to play the game again and compare. Worth the hype! Something that I notice is Haolonggood's dependence on straight ahead walking poses. This is a nice variation but I think we could see some more variety. I expect this was sculpted earlier on and released later, which would explain the comparatively large scales. Really good review as always, hope you might eventually get the kosmoceratops .

    • @DinosDragons
      @DinosDragons  6 месяцев назад

      Thank you!
      With regards to the more neutral pose, I agree that more variations would be interesting. But I've also realised some limitations to more dynamic poses, especially when it comes to posing and reviewing. For example the Wilson T Rex tends to look better only from one side thanks to the lateral bend, and the small PNSO Spino is almost impossible to get more than one or two nice angles. For people who like seeing scale with their 1:35 figures, it will be less satisfying. but given so many ceratopsians in neutral poses, I agree HLG could afford to be a little daring with some others. Dynamic poses are especially useful for people who want to create livelier dioramas too!
