I'll buy it if/when it goes for half off on Black Friday like the series has the last couple years. As a franchise mode player, I think the ability for players to earn X-factors, the little bug fixes, pressure system, roster updates, and new control scheme (as a player who often gets frustrated by passing and has a tough time with many of the dekes) justifies $35, but definitely not $70.

I really like the ability for players to earn X-factors, that alone makes franchise a lot more fun for me since it affects line chemistry so much. Pressure system feels fun, the new goalie animations and fatigue system there is quite cool. Not worth it at full price, but I definitely don't regret spending 35 on it

70 dollars for a hockey game is wild, i can get like 5 indie games for that much money that would give me infinitely more enjoyment
as a guy who just got a console for the first time in 10 years and hasn't played an NHL game since like NHL 06, this told me everything I needed to know - I will be getting the game since it'll all be new to me and idc what was in NHL 23, 22, 21 etc.. thanks for the review
If you have xbox get game pass NHL 94, 22 and 23 are free on there. Just saying save you a few bucks

The mode that I wanna play the most is Be a Pro.. Last game I bought was NHL 22. It's sad that they never had a good career mode when you compare it to the NBA 2k's and other games. I just don't wanna pay 10 $ each season when I pay 70 $ for a game. Maybe do a be a pro mode that is worthy and I'll buy the game.
How many replay angles do they show after a goal? Do they show any other replays besides goals?
So I never played a nhl game before so for me playing nhl for the first time would this be a good game for me I see we’re ever one said copy an paste but I never played the 23 one or the ones before it so is it worth it
Great information. I am having a issue with control of my team when I play a game. The choose team mode is on my team and I am not able to completely control the players... I think it's a setting but I have tried some different things but wanted to know if anyone has experienced thus issue.
Did they go back to adding "Full Presentation" like NHL 22? Or, is it still "Quick Play?"

8:03 tbh I kinda like the specific instruction/requirements. Idk if I agree with blocking forward progress for not completing them in that way, but earning stars or points or whatever? Yeah, I like that
Again, I found this game very hard to review. It totally comes down to subjectivity and player preference. For some, this may be the best entry in the series, and a must buy. For others, it's an exorbitantly overpriced update.
NBA 2K has the best franchise mode. That's the only thing NBA 2k does right.
I’m actually kind of glad EA focused on gameplay changes versus UI or other game modes. The gameplay feels the best it’s been in years. Way less cheese goals and you can play a dump/chase and actually set up plays on the point, etc, versus constant goals on the rush, cheese wraparounds and insane cross crease goals on the rush.
I think whether this installment is worth buying comes entirely down to player preference. That's why I didn't give it a final score, unless you count the thumbnail.
Yes. It's cool that the keeper can save snipe shots but not every shot now (excluding high pressure). But when the puck just slides towards goal keeper can't even pick it up. He has to make a "save" and then pick it up. It's frustrating because it often leads to a goal. So why not pokecheck?
Well they never focus on game modes so that was never an issue, they focus on micro transactions, taking to years to add crossplay in pieces shows their laziness and attempt to sell as many copies on old gen as they can.

I would buy this game rather than spending any money on NHL 23. The only issue with waiting is you will have less time to complete the free battle pass.
I would buy NHL 23 for $12. Then next year buy NHL 24 for $12. There isn't enough improvement each year for a $70 purchase.
I had pre ordered it. I do every year but it doesn't feel like they really did anything different. Like the same cut scene for be a pro? That's pure laziness. I canceled may play 23 like you said until 24 comes on game pass. I can't justify the price tag for this. I love hockey but not this much ea lazy.

I cant believe I'm not getting this for the first time since NHL '10. I can't believe its the same Trophy/Achievements yet again! Its unreal. I got the Gretzky career trophy in NHL '12. Why do it again??

I don't know about franchise mode pushing limits. There's no dedicated way to build Chemistry Between players and it doesn't seem like they preset anything regarding coaches or chemistry.. the coaching system is also a complete mess. Is there a certain degree of luck involved with coaching in real life yes, but I don't think this system necessarily replicates that.
I have this game but for me the biggest issue so fare is trying to win the face offs it’s ridiculous I can’t seem to win one never had issue before til now

I would respect the battle pass option only if they didn’t make the same game over and over but instead make updates like fortnite and other games. Also you shouldn’t be able to get the pressure gage maxed just by puck ragging in the other teams zone. Long story short, make the game better

I think that's wise. You can always buy it later, perhaps after you've played the 10-hour trial. I think NHL 24 is good, but it's definitely not pre-order worthy, by any means. The FOMO on the free battle pass is basically the only reason to get it now, so it depends on how important that is to you.

We need full presentation back and an actual tradition broadcast… the play by play sucks we need something like nbc
I like the idea of the pressure system. But is there a way to take off the stupid on-ice visuals of it, like the clock? Also, really not liking the look of the cut-scenes when a goal is scored. I want a realistic feeling game that looks like I’m watching actual hockey, but the visuals and presentation would really take me out of the game.
If you find a way tell me that pressure clock logo is the most annoying thing

It’s decent but I find myself taking to long to look for an open man when I use it. The game itself though is horrible.

It depends on how eager you are to get into the game and if you don't have Game Pass/EA Play. If you have Game Pass I would just play 23 which is available with your subscription until 24 is available. If you don't have Game Pass and are very eager to play the game I suppose there's not much point in waiting for a price drop to $20 if you want to play it now. $30 is probably right about where I would think it becomes worth it, that's about the maximum I would pay for it.

EA Sports should pay YOU for playing this latest garbage installment. Very unsatisfying. I remember when the games were FUN and not just about people pretending to be GM's and idiot 3-aside games w/ glowing pucks.

As creation focused player, it's sad to see that there isn't anything new in creation zone. Also I have never understood why goalie masks and equipment in CHEL must be exclusive for that single game mode? It's so stupid. I mean, player like me pay same prize as CHEL and HUT players, but get way less. It's stupid. I know this is because it's all about cashcow that is these gamemodes. Guess I will not buy 24 and will stay in 23
Haven’t played the final release, but imo there’s a good amount of difference gameplay wise.
I get the complaints in a lot of areas, but gameplay is what matters and the NHL series has been pretty good for a while. Not sure what people want in sports games tbh.
New management and it’s going to take another 2-3 more games for them to fully show what they’re capable of. Even more so once they stop with last gen.

This really bums me out. I haven't played a NHL game since 18 . I would typically get an NHL game once every other year. I absolutely loved the" be a pro" mode when it was first introduced. Such a shame that they cannot seem to simply put out a quality game. They don't have to reinvent the game. I don't give a damn about Battle passes or the other nonsense they add for a added fee. Just get me improved visual performance ,updated roster and make sure it feels good. So I may just hold off or get this on a solid sale.

All of them, including 24, if you go in the menu and switch it from the soundtrack.

NHL 24 is the first game i skipped in years.....i did play the EA Play Trial and for me it was nothing that made me feel like i had to spend $70 especially sense nothing was done to be a pro........As of now i'm expecting to skip a few year's unless they make massive upgrades to be a pro and even then i'll wait until the EA Play trial and see if it's even worth it because at this point it's just becoming a waste of money for minor upgrades and i can't even justify the cost anymore this game has just became a monopoly and i'm tired of playing

Of course they are...unless they fall over flat following a mild snap-shot.
That's about the only way you can score most often. Of course YOUR goalie is a useless blob out there; give up even a partial breakaway after you tried 72 times to check someone off the puck and there goes another soft goal allowed.
@@GizmoBeach I ended up getting the game. what a pile of garbage LOL... the goalies are much easier to score on, but the overall gameplay has taken a step back... these guys can't get anything right.

I don't think so. The entire HUT mode is online only, I believe. You'd have to play Franchise mode.
The slap shot motion when you try to do a bodycheck, there was a tutorial about that in 2000 or 2001... everybody is acting like its something new

i find it strange that this game gets so much hate, however i did buy i PS5 about 2 months ago. before that the last console i played on was a PS2 in 2004, i skipped past the ps3 & 4 so i'm sure you can imagine i've noticed a pretty big improvement in game quality, graphics etc

After last year I'm horrified to try. The gameplay at the beginning of 22 was the best they had in years, it felt weighty and not arcady but they patched it to make it an exact copy of 21. In no way does the series feel like real hockey anymore. Last year I learned to do the cross crease one timer so well there was literally no fun in it.

It's just a thumbnail. It represents that evaluating this game is complicated when it's almost a carbon copy of last year's game, but still quite good. It's an 8 but also may not be worth buying for the average consumer.

For people who don't have NHL 23 at home or on Game Pass, this is a fantastic game. And for those who just feel like buying NHL 24 this year because they can and because its just as good as last year's game, there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
No. No. No. It is not. It’s a broken mess. It really sounds like you didn’t actually play it because you’d be talking about the broken pressure system and the impact it has on goalies. One shot can fill the meter from zero to 3/4 full. It’s so easily exploitable. The buttons show up to telegraph passes to local versus players, the amount of penalties are so excessive you can’t even poke check, the game feels slow and the players don’t have anywhere near the same agility or responsiveness. Even player changes are slow AF. The worst part of this all is this is the same exact gameplay tuning from a month ago that they flew streamers out to test over a month ago. It’s a complete disgrace. No one wants more overlays and crap on the ice to compensate for lazy development that can’t improve the game without tacking on another stupid bandaid.

@@troymuni6120 Also keep in mind I'm not like an NHL content creator. I probably play like 25 hours in a given year. I'm just a guy who does coverage and reviews for all types of video games. So in no way am I an expert on NHL specifically. But I think I'm qualified enough to do a review with the perspective that I do have. If you know more and that causes you to disagree, that's totally fine!

Game is being recycled each year, they say they pus new things but they remove stuff . EA does not gives a f*** for fans , golden era for NhL games are long gone . Same cinematics , no story , Controls all messed up , For the new you have to hit with different buttons instead of the stick . No more Classic controls for people that bein playing this for the last 10-20 years . This just proves that they don’t care , announcing new things but removing that makes you feel “special” if only another developper could buy the rights for the NhL . Cause EA sports is clearly robbing us just for “new content” when you can juste stay with the same progressif player in CHEL just have new seasons or whatsoever . All same content . I’m done with this . Fake promises , laziest coder and developper . Nobody is gonna stand up , stop buying their game
I used to play NHL back from those amazing 1994 - 1999 series , remember that amazing feel ... well ... havent try any version since 2013 so I just hope it is worth the $70! thanks for the review
I think that's going to be a big leap which will feel good. Nothing really wrong with this game other than being so iterative on the last several entries.

I buy every other NHL game since hockey my favourite sport but buying the game every year doesn’t make sense to me
I believe EA Sports should release their games every other year instead of yearly so the new games could all have an experience that actually feels impactful
I’m excited to experience improvements from both NHL 23 & NHL 24 in NHL 24s release.
With other EA Sport titles I buy every 3 or 4 years as the only ultimate team I play is Hockey Ultimate Team & there isn’t enough upgrades in titles like Madden or FIFA to upgrade on a yearly basis or bi yearly basis when I factor in I don’t play Ultimate Team there
I’m looking forward to getting my Hockey Ultimate Team going though! It’ll be going for 2 years for me! 😎plus I’ve always been a Free To Play HUT player, although I’ll probably buy the season pass this year since it’s just been introduced & I want to get the full rewards for grinding the game
Not terribly happy they’re locking stuff you’d get by progressing through a Season Pass & I’ve never bought a season pass before in other games. But for NHL 24 if it’s as fun as I think it’ll be…. If the season pass is really impactful & fairly cheap I’ll go for it

But they keep on having a pile of looks that are meaningless. Who cares about a 2006 jersey that looks the same as the one years later? Why on Earth would I want to use that years' version if it's no different than later ones?
@@GizmoBeach 100%! Honestly thought they would have added it in. Even more jersey from the 90s and early 2000 aswell. The robo penguin certainly would have been great, even though we have that pen’s reverse retro. Dame for the Wilds alternate which is the reverse retro they wore but adding a sponsor to the alternate. Would be great for teams to have new designs rather than using the same for so long
They have got it were the smaller arenas are ghost town... I miss this sport so much!!! I really do... and so many other people do... they have destroyed it.. once you get out of a groove... its not as painful... Good bye NHL ... I will always love you... bust out the X box 360....
Customizations menu is awful, the logos and jerseys templates are the same since 2015, franchise mode needs a no trade clause contracts
so the big question is the game worth $70 and is it better than 23. The first answer to that is no the second answer is yes. First of all no sport game is worth full price. Game pass, and PlayStation premium give you EA play so right off the bat you get 10 bucks off. You also get 10 hours of gameplay. To me if you’re a hockey fan 61 bucks yeah you can get away with. But remember the full rosters aren’t out yet, so you technically could wait a month or so! If you just play franchise or season like I do!! Play online and you probably already have it!! Unfortunately because it’s EA they’re lazy. The presentation is exactly the same. I have a new commentator she’s OK but the presentation is nothing to write home about just like Madden copy and paste presentation.! But the game, in my opinion is much better than 23. The meters on the players and the new crowd reaction in the fatigue message for the goalies is pretty cool. It’s not the same as 23. It is better but it looks the same, which is unfortunate! I’m gonna wait till the rosters are done. Play my 10 hours and see how much the price goes down! It probably won’t go down till Black Friday. I’ll probably on it by then ! But remember your discount from EA play !!

How would you say that NHL has a better franchise mode than fifa? ! have played both fifa 22 and nhl 22 and for those fifa was the better experience.

Stupid me. I bought this game with the ideals of Bedard reigning champ as rookie with a really fun and inviting Be A Pro Mode…instead, this entire game is a flop. You can’t hit any players, my hit stick misses every player, the graphics on the ice look like a 94’ game and this “pressure system” is a joke. It gets worse. The goalie animations during the game, are widely exaggerated, the puck controls are nothing like the real life game I swear for some reason, 2006’ was their best year & after 18 years…they should have gotten their shit together by now. Be a career mode, should be a full on, hands on Mcdavid type lifestyle… you should be able to buy a house, have a real dialogue, advertisement deals etc. instead, we got Nada. $76 dollars later… we got nothing but trash

I ”updated” from NHL 20 because i was naive and expected some development in 4 years. Total waste of money. It’s gone worse in everything. The movement and animations look worse, the menus and matchmaking have got even slower, Be A Pro is a nightmare with those stupid conversations, etc…

These EA games every year are just money grabbers. Same as phones, every year new model when at the end of the day they do do same thing as any other phone pretty much. These improvements seem like these games should be expansions or addons, or updates..for like 40 bucks or something. That would make everyone love EA. But this 80 dollar tiny improvement games that feel like the previous just won't cut it for many of us.

Wish I would’ve known how bad NHL ‘24 was before I spent the $90 on it! Just in the last 2 or 3 weeks leading up to the release of ‘24, I went back to ‘23 and created a brand new team and played a handful of games against NHL teams and it was a hell of a lot more enjoyable than the 3 hours of NHL 24 I got to play yesterday!
By the way, my created team name was Milwaukee Bruisers! A deliberate ripoff of Milwaukee Brewers of MLB, but at least it was fun for me!
