  • University of Toronto lacrosse players take their first hurling lesson and they were naturals at it! Hurling is an Irish sport like lacrosse. Both are stick sports played on a field with similar objectives and rich histories.

    I grew up in Canada, and one of my mates was obsessed with lacrosse, and he once told me it was the fastest field sport. I corrected him and told him that honour is with Hurling.
    Back then before the auld Internet, the main canadian sports channel TSN used to show the All-Ireland finals a couple months after they were played, and he saw the hurling final on telly. After the match he immediately phoned me to apologise and concede the argument :)

      It is pretty similar to a groundballshoveling with the stick in Lacrosse! :)
      It is really interesting and nice to see all the similarities between this two historical sports. :)
      And it is fun and a good conditioning for both sides to play Hurllacrosse and sometimes swap the sticks! 👌🏼:)

    Great video! I was able to catch a match between Limerick and Tipperary when I studied at UL, I loved it! I noticed on the cultec.ie website that there are different sizes. How do you determine the right size for you? Thanks!

    • @PlayHurling
      @PlayHurling  9 лет назад +1

      +Denise Cooney Thanks Denise! Generally, it's recommended that the hurl comes up to your hipbone, but it depends on what you feel most comfortable with. Hurls are measured in inches so use measuring tape to determine what size you'll feel most comfortable with. If you're just starting out learning hurling, I'd recommend to buy a hurl that's a bit shorter.

    Great job David! Bringing the game to more and more North Americans is great as the game is definitely becoming more popular each year! Let those students know that Concordia University has a Hurling and Gaelic Football club and they should contact them if they want to start their own club! Also to anyone that's reading this in the US from any college, checkout ncgaa.org for info on the United States Collegiate Hurling and Gaelic Football association

      +brian hardiman I dont mean to be rude by correcting you here but North America is a continent and I considered them as North Americans because they live on the North American continent. Historically Canadians were ruled over by the British not the Americans. I hope I didn't sound rude and I would never call the Irish, British or Canadians as Americans i.e. People from the United States of America.
