Tajalli Sabziwari: A poet, a Sufi and a Constitutionalist

    Constitutional Revolution of Iran (took places between 1905 to 1911) was not only an establishment of a parliament and it should be viewed in a wider scope. Constitutional Revolution was a turning point in the cultural, intellectual, political and even to a certain extent religious history of Persia. From Religious reformation to modernist view and introduction of European philosophy and political theories into Iranians. Constitutional movement was an inclusive movement that from all levels of society and different religious groups participated in this movement. The role of different religious groups is extremely important and unfortunately role of some of these religious groups like Gunabadi Sufis have been neglected by scholars. There are great Gunabadi Sufis involvedin the constitutional movement of Iran. Sayyid Abu Talib Simnani (A Gunabadi Shaykh, master) with some of his disciples
    foundaed the committee of Constitutional Movement in Simnan or Mirza Muhammad Ma’sum Shirazi was among the first group of constitutionalists and became the head of Anjuman Mashrutih Shiraz, or there are many other great figures. This paper will focus on life of Tajalli Sabziwari. Tajalli Sabziwari, who was a poet and a wayfarer in the path of Sufism, besides being a social/political activist. He used his knowledge of poetry to express his social and political concerns through his poetry. Therefore, he put lots of efforts and strived for moral growth and social/political awareness of the society. After bombardment of parliament of Iran, he was arrested and harshly beaten. Afterward he was exiled to Mashhad and in Mashhad he continued his activities through publication of national poems in constitutionalist Newspaper. His role in constitutional revolution is undeniable and this talk tries to discover more about his life and beliefs.
