bought my first Bark River Knive today ..The Aurora II in CPM 3v /Amboina Burl and Brass Pins ..HOLY Ghost !! It has IMMEDIATELY become my favorite knife .. ABSOLUTELY top quality. Took two years and then I wanted the normal Aurora .. COMPLETELY sold out .. Then I dared to buy the slightly longer Aurora II and ... BABY !!! I just soaked the knife sheath with leather care and then REALLY soaked with Snow Seal (Sheat heated in the oven and soaked with the stuff .. The leather was GREED for it (pretty dry) The best knife I will ever have And that's what I say as a German, where there are also VERY good knife brands .. But NO Bark River .. I will only sharpen this splendid specimen by hand on the stone.
I did the same thing. I wanted the Aurora, but since they were sold out, I took a chance and bought the Aurora 2. Now that I have it, I’m actually glad it worked out that way. I never would have bought the 2 otherwise, as I thought it was too long, but it handles great. I love it and I’m glad I went with the Aurora 2. Everything about it exceeded my expectations
I've lost count of how many times I've re-watched this one, Dave ... Mike Stewart is fun to watch, too! I have a made-to-order Little Creek I should be getting delivered sometime next week. Super interview and tour! Thanks again ... God Bless you and yours
I can honestly say I really enjoyed this video and after listening to Mike speak about about his company and their knife making process, from beginning to final finish and QC, I can say I want a Bark River knife more than ever. GREAT VIDEO!!!!!!
I bought a couple Barkies because of this good interview. What M.Stewart said at the 10:00 mark really impressed me. 👏 💭 Finally, a man who values & respects women! My Bark River Scout & Cub are gorgeous. Perfect works of art & wicked sharp! Their warranty & "spa treatment " on their knives really sold me too. Well done, BRN!
This vid sold me on Bark River! I was debating between Bark River and a different company. Glad you posted this video. I'm really excited about the convex grind. Wow, what a company. Proud to purchase a knife from them!
I had a candadian camp knife with a beautiful burl handle chip on the edge in subzero temps. They no longer produced the knife probably due to the thin geometry that attributed to the edge failing. They made me a new golok with desert ironwood and black liners as a free replacement. Bark river is about their quality knives and ill always have a spot in my heart for bark river knives.
I've carried a Bark River Bravo 1 on all my camping and hunting trips for the last 8 years. To say I'm hard on gear is an understatement and this knife has taken everything I've thrown at it. If you are waffling about getting one of the Bark River knives because of the cost, remember you get what you pay for.
I say this as a Brit; this is why I proudly by Bark River. Good honest high quality workmanship made by good honest high quality people. Much love and respect from your cousins here this side of the pond.
Great video, bark river knives are top self, i own several and feel they put out the best knives money can buy thats my opinion. Glad to see a video to show people a great American product .
What A Company............Mike thoroughly impressed me. Thanks to both you Dave and to Brook for your time to show us this Company. I will try to get an Good Knife ordered. My knifes are just so, so, so to speak.
My knives are just so-so too! I do have an LT wright knife that LT gave me....its a great knife. I don't own a bark river knife though. But they o look awesome.
@@Bushradical I bet it was.. I'd love to be able to see all that in person. This is what made me pull the trigger on The Donnybrook. Now I have 4 lmao 🍻
Just picked up one of your PSK knives and I love it, it is a great little knife very handy...I have several of your knifes (north country, snowyriver and bravo) the quility is first rate.....thank you Mark J Stribrny/Livonia, MI
Another great video. It is wonderful to have an American company do a super job and fulfill the orders as ordered. Great looking knives. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and happy trails.
Been eyeballing one of their knives for a few months now.. this video made me order, american made, done by hand where needed, quality product.. love it.
I've been through a tour with Mike... maybe 4 years ago. Bark River is an all around awesome company. I get tired of scandi grind knives. They have their purpose... but a great convex ground knife that requires little to no care is at the top for me. My very first influence to Bark River was our good friend at virtuovice on youtube. This guy really knows knives... I'm still subscribed to his channel. Thanks for sharing the tour video Dave!
Thanks for the Tour Dave. You certainly shed some light on the behind the scenes of their operation. I've been enlightened to this knife brand and respect the quality, work ethic, and 'grind' behind their knife making efforts. Bring on Christmas.
Great business! I received my bushcrafter 1 this week and it’s awesome! Great quality fantastic handle. I’m very impressed with the quality of this knife!
Fantastic video & thank you. I love watching Mikes RUclips’s videos “this ones in black so it’s mine” 😆 I have owned a few of their blades over the years....gunnys, bravo, fox rivers.. plus my Blackjack 125 heavy hunter(stacked leather) which is my current go to Barky for deer & the only Bark River I now own. All were outstanding dependable knives with A2 steel being my favourite for processing deer! I haven’t really been a fan of 3v type steels in the past due to A2 being so amazing at processing deer/holds up an edge after cleaning out a Sambar(large deer species) plus its just so easier to touch up. But...I probably need to try their 3v again?!? Thank you Bark River for your outstanding products 🙌🏻 I’m very interested in their new Fox Rivers EXT-2 &/or EXT-1 with the deeper blade design - this is a must have knife for me :)

Really glad to see a small company doing so well. Definitely something we need more of in this country. With that said so sad to see the guy with black face knowing how much of that grit is now in his lungs. Along with none of the grinders having any dust collection. 😞
For about three years I was on the fence about getting a Bark River Bravo 1 with ramp. Part of it was I couldn’t make out the weird drama some had against Bark River. But I pulled the trigger this year. Part of the reason I bought one, I hate to admit it, was they made a few with a handle that GITD. Have to say I couldn’t be happier. It is definitely a “survival” knife in that is is a thick bar of steel with an edge. Plus it GITD really well when hit with UV.
I like this company. Family owned and keeping it real. Now its time to save up and order one of these great knives for my camping trips. Cheers, Bark River A cut above the rest
I received my first Bark River knife a Gunny in CPM3V.My son who lives in Kentucky ordered it from Amazon ,cost 300 dollars worth every cent,on the paper test the weight of the knife pushes the edge through the paper.Big Scandinavian knives fan eg.Helle,Mora,Martini, but my next few knives are going to be Bark River.Bravo next in A2 steel.Stay safe.Great video.
I have heard a lot of controversy around this company over the years. I never looked too much into it because I'm a folding knife guy. I finally watched this and I am shocked. Mike is a totally normal human. I love how he was dressed and appeared. It's great to see someone being so successful (40,000+ knives a year) and still be himself. The whole company is ran as a commune and workers are talented and respected. I just don't see how this could be fake. Everything seems authentic. I will probably pick one of these up sometime just to say "thanks for being awesome" to a great company.
Actually its an OLD school type of place. Lot of people smoking inside, solid American made machines.....its kind of a throw back place. They are the real thing, and I dont even own a Bark River knife.
Awesome. What sold me to purchase my 1st BK was a photo of the actual knife I purchased. Would be nice if they would also include the backside of the scale as well. The top and bottom might be asking little much when no liners are involved. But, it would really be nice to see the whole knife. Maybe just for any that are a bit higher end varieties. Of course wouldn't need both sides of Mike's personal black micarta ones...
I have 6 Bark River Knives and a collection of over 150 other knives. The reason I like BRKs so much is because of their excellent convex blade geometry and heat treatment. If you want a bulletproof blade then get a Bark River.
That was cool went right in and seen how their knifes are made, and from my home state didn't even know about their company. their knifes look awsome.I'm buying one for sure. hey I’m new to your channel but I’ve been a supporter of brk for many years now. I was enamored by the amount care these guys put into their product whether it be the 100% no questions asked guarantee, the quality of materials especially the steel, their knowledge of metallurgy, the heat treat, and the VERY friendly and helpful online community (bark river facebook group) if you have a problem mike will go out of his way to talk with you and fix any issue you’re having and I mean anything lol. That being said their knives can seem a little expensive at first but if you plan to use it or sell it later on, you’re making an investment, they don’t depreciate much in value; some even go up! any way I could blather on about brk all day but if you’re thinking about getting one join the facebook group to help guide you through the thousands of knives they offer, very kind knowledgeable folks. Have a good one!
Apples and oranges Steve. From all we've talked about over the phone and what I saw on the tour , the two "processes" used for making knives between yourself and BRTK are almost opposite. You would have really enjoyed the tour.
I have a compass like that, my father gave it to me when I was ten. I am 54 now, we had matching ones. My father went missing in 2008 in Chippewa county, his compass is still with him.
Dave, did you and Brooke ever go back to Bark River for a Grind In event or to see a knife get made from beginning to end? That would be an awesome follow-up to this tour. Bark River is my primary interest in cutlery these days.
Great video I love this channel . My wife and I binge watch all the time . I noticed none of the workers using hearing protection ? Just seemed very loud . :)
Thx Dave! Cool to see your video version after watching Brooke's... you caught some good footage too! Wish I had the funds for that new one with the hole on the end of the handle or that one that Brooke held with the finger guard... Actually I'd probably be happy to own any one of them, including a kitchen knife... But they are missing one important style... the Ulu!!! You need to talk with them about ur ulu knife, maybe they could produce a run... never know till u ask!! Awesome tour & loved that huge puppy!!
Bark River 👍 has my vote. I will proudly spend my hard earned bucks on an all american family owned shop that builds top notch blades! Love it

Hey Woods! You a knife maker too? Ive never run a buffer but my dad spent 30 years in a buffing and polishing shop with 440 jacks. They looked and sounded real scary to me!
yup, twenty odd years....them buffers can take a knife right out of a fellers hands lickity split and send it in all sorts of directions...takes a steady hand, the correct angle and concentration...woods
Whats the best way to approach buffing? Just do it and learn that way? The buffer does seem like a tool to respect!
Turn on machine, apply buffing compound, Holding knife in both hands (one hand firmly holds knife handle while other hand merely supports the blade.) cutting edge down, firmly apply lower half of blade to wheel moving steadily hilt to tip...turn blade cutting edge up and repeat above....be sure and keep the top of the blade tilted towards you and away from the wheel
NEVERRRR work above center line of buffing wheel!!!...below center line is correct.
Always use two hands
Never polish a 90 degree angle on a parallel line such as on the spine, but rather turn blade over , tilt blade point down and draw blade up and towards you...remember, a soft wheel will seize and rip a blade from your hand more easily than a firm wheel...finally, have a quenching tank nearby so that you can cool the blade as needed.....if the steel is too hot to touch, its too hot.
of course as you know, the best way to learn is by doing...taker easy amigo and safe travels!...woods
Thanks Woods!

Thanks
What an awesome tour! Right there in Michigan, seem like really great folks. In 40 years I may have my shop set up like that eh dave? Lol
Apples and oranges Steve. From all we've talked about over the phone and what I saw on the tour , the two "processes" used for making knives between yourself and BRTK are almost opposite. You would have really enjoyed the tour.
I’m impressed! I’ll be looking at Bark River for my next hunting knife.
I wish I could give you a testimonial but I dont own one
I've got one of their Gunny models. The sheath and knife are both top notch.
Ive never owned one but they look nice.
I have known Mike since I lived in Effingham and he is a great man and genius knife maker. I own more than a hundred of his knives.
WOW!
And you call yourself the Thrifty Gypsy? LOL
What a cool place to visit!! I love my Barkriver JX-5! 👍🏻
It was a fun tour.
Eu queria muito ter uma faca desta, elas são perfeitas, de grande qualidade, parabéns pelo trabalho de vocês!felicidades pra todos aí!
My son and I will be at the Grind-in this June. So exited. I’m mildly addicted to BRKT knives. Mildly is, of course, subjective.
I might try to make next march. It would be fun.
I have a compass like that, my father gave it to me when I was ten. I am 54 now, we had matching ones. My father went missing in 2008 in Chippewa county, his compass is still with him.
Hey Russ. Do you mean Chippewa county Mi? Man I'm sorry to hear about that.
Dave, did you and Brooke ever go back to Bark River for a Grind In event or to see a knife get made from beginning to end? That would be an awesome follow-up to this tour. Bark River is my primary interest in cutlery these days.
Great video! Makes me want to go to a grind-in so much.
Thanks for the comment.
Great video I love this channel . My wife and I binge watch all the time . I noticed none of the workers using hearing protection ? Just seemed very loud . :)
The air in there had a color to it too....no respirators that I saw????
Bushradical Hope your lady wins alone ! Seems like a new person leaves every day ...

Aaaahhh so many sharp pointy toys I gotta have at least one !
LOL.
Outstanding. Thank you.
Well that is one on the bucket list for sure!
It was a lot of fun.
I don't think they work in "vintage saw steel".
Donnybrook is that model and its named after a rough neighborhood in Dublin, can anyone verify?
