Congrats on 100k! I do a lot of work with intersection signal designs and it's good to see a lot of the inner workings and troubleshooting that you guys go through in the field
@ZBB415 That is so interesting that you mentioned your field too. I'm sure this differs from county to county, state to state, but when an intersection goes from a 4-way Stop to a traffic signal system, how does it first get configured? I mean, specifically to do with timers from one direction to another. I ask this because recently there is a new traffic signal system installed on my commute, and it's very obvious it is no way giving enough time for one direction versus another. This is leading to long lines. Is it a requirement that the designers who came up with the initial configuration, come back out and check "actual" traffic metrics from the controller(?) a few weeks later to fine tune? Or is that up to the local community to put in a phone call to the county? I know you can't speak for everyone, but, any thoughts much appreciated, you or @TrafficLightDoctor :)
@@OutofDarkness_jik So usually to make timing plans, a study of the intersection is done to track volumes of each approach during several times of day. Those volumes are most commonly used in traffic simulation programs to determine how to best portion out the times for all the phases that need to run. Generally when new signals are constructed there is a time frame that adjustments will be made based on actual conditions in the field. To answer your question about making a complaint and to whom, it just depends on the state. Where I live the signals are owned and maintained by the local municipality, even if it is on a state or county road. I would say that a good start would be to contact the municipality that the signal is in. They should hopefully be able to direct you in the right direction. If enough complaints are made then they should hopefully send someone to check it out. Hope this helps you out!
Some background info from the EDI manual: Port 1 Fail - A port 1 fail occurs when the SDLC does not receive a message from the controller. This means that the MMU is not receiving data from the controller. If this happens three times in a 24 hour period the signal will go into flash. Common Causes Bad cable or termination A configuration error in the controller A bad device on the SDLC bus Loss of power to the controller
The CCU has like a pass through connection on it's SDLC port with a yellow wire leading off it and down the side of the cabinet. What is that? Why is it also on the bus like that?
With that tech there must be a screen that shows if the SDLC links are experiencing link errors so you can narrow down the issue. As I understand it the Controller talks to the Conflict Monitor and the TCU and the Controller should be able to display if the devices are reachable and the links are healthy. Also, SDLC has built-in diagnostics that you should be able to execute from the Controller to test the links towards the various devices.
Yes sir, both the monitor and the controller have alarm reports! I try to just do the quickest option to get the intersection back up and running then check the fault codes to see where the error is in the controller to judge if we will repair it in house or send it to our supplier for repairs. Typically it’s an issue with the power supply or the port 2 board (SLDC port) on these controllers. A lot less issues out of a typical TS1 controller cabinet but you get left behind on future upgrades.
Really like to see more video's of you working on the controllers instead of the shorts :) maybe I'll subscribe if i get to see more actual work video's 😊
Does anyone make an intelligent active sdlc hub? That one looks passive with no amplification or short protection, meaning if one port goes down for a short it takes them all down.

@@GreyRockOne I build traffic intersections and ITS work for a living so there will be plenty of that during the work weeks and I also resparked the passion for video creation when I started filming more long form videos. So there will be a lot of vlog style videos of my life as well, mostly on the weekends while more traffic lights during Monday-Thursday. Which both helps me get better at content creation which in return will create more enjoyable videos on both sides of my life for everyone! So just look at it as a win win and don’t miss the videos during the week you enjoy more!
@@sberry25 Strongly disagree, no disrespect to the guy but I'm not interested in the 'off topic' stuff. Sure he gets to decide what he puts up, but if he's not careful he risks losing exactly what attracted subscribers to his channel in the first place. I personally like the approach some youtubers take of having a second channel for the 'off topic' stuff so people can chose or not to watch/subscribe to the second channel if they are interested in that, rather than dilute the main channel.
Congrats on Breaking 100K dude! Doing this while Working on what you love! I see the Passion there!
Congrats on the 100K. Stay hydrated! It would cool to get a good explanation of what the conflict monitor actually does and how it works. 🐾🐾
Congratulations. No skydiving without a parachute from the bucket truck or any place.
After that first failure, I knew it'd be a recurring issue. Good thing you double-checked everything! Thanks for another great video.

Speaking of heat, what temperature does the inside of those cabinets get to? Maybe the equipment is getting fried.
