Garouden: The Way of the Lone Wolf is not a direct adaptation of the Garouden novels by Baku Yumemakura (1985 - present) and its manga adaptation by Baki creator Keisuke Itagaki. This anime tells an original story that loosely adapts the story arc told in novels 2-7, but told through Juzo Fujimaki's point of view. In the original novels, the main character is Bunshichi Tanba, while Juzo Fujimaki is a rival character to Tanba.
The reason why Juzo is the main character instead of Tanba is because Juzo is considered to be a fan favourite character in Japan.
This is how Baki/kengan should be animated a lil at least for the brutality and movement

Is crybaby Sakura an actual Garouden Novel character or is it something Itagaki just added. Because compared to the rest of the characters, Cry baby stands out the most and feels more like a Baki character than a Garouden character
