I am a great grandson of Captain John Kewley, half my family still live on the island & my grandma lives in Kirk Michael, I have been told many stories & been to the old house where I'm told one of my grandma's had to walk several miles to & from school. I really enjoyed your video, thank you
My Great-grandfather and his father were lead miners around Foxdale in the IOM before immigrating to the US in 1866. I suspect he worked in a similar mine prior to that. In the US, he was a copper miner in the Keweenaw Peninsula, UP of Michigan before relocating to Ishpeming, MI, where he mined Iron Ore. Fascinating video.
How do you go about contacting those types of people?
And people think life is hard now. These guys were beyond tough.
That pool looks like it might be good for dragonflies ! I didn’t know there was water there. Is it easier to reach there from snaefell or agneash ?
Snaefell is a lot closer. When filming, we went down from the Bungalow, crossing the road and following the track over the hillside down. It is very boggy in places though - be warned!
You can also come down from the Black Hut, but it is much steeper there, and equally boggy in places.
