    It was under control of 2 of the local harbor pilots to comply as required by Maryland law. So by the sounds of it, the government run harbor has 2 government workers in control of the ship at the time.
    So basically the government crashed a companies ship into their own bridge after requiring them by law to have the 2 harbor pilots take control.

    As an American...I am dumbfounded as always in these news cycles. If a mistake is made in Baltimore, why are taxes from citizens in Florida on the hook. The money is there to repair in taxes but those should be owed back by the negligence ordered in a court. This has been an issue for some time. In example, if California has issues caused by many government mandates, the federal government outstretches it's arm so that every state that does it right like Texas will then carry the load of bad policy of others. It is a strength of the union but just like the private boat company, if a government policy, agency, or official causes tax dollars to be borrowed from out of state payers, then a reclamation process of accountability should be part of the process. I send prayers you way my brother. Our country needs them as to all of the nations who are currently reliant on the US.

    • @Knackers_Oreilly
      @Knackers_Oreilly 3 месяца назад +1

      Agree with what you say.
      As far as been reliant on them is probably more of an issue of all the deals been made and how much we gave up to have this allie. Its probably more of countries are coming off 2nd best against one of the largest who are in a position to do this
      They say jump and we say how high.

    Ah mate no. It is very unlikely that any insurer will have the replacement value of an entire bridge plus the loss of life as part of a policy and it is likely that the boat is mortgaged from top to bottom, flagged in the Bahamas and the owner is foreign. So who and in which jurisdiction are they going to pursue? There will be years of court battles in this to establish liability.
    A sensible government will get on with rebuilding the bridge first before trying to retrieve the cost, or at least some of the cost from the owners of the boat.
    The rebuild will be very expensive but in the context of overall US public spending it will be a mere drop so not that inflationary plus the government spend will, in the short term at least, boost Baltimore's economy.

    I am a Texan. Joe Biden is a joke. How about they do an investigation like for airplane accidents? Did the captain fall asleep? Was the captain drunk? Was it mechanical/electrical error? Investigate and see what really happened, then go through who/what is liable. Sadly their are alot of lives that are hurting right now.
    Slow Joe can’t even communicate a sentence in a coherent fashion. Sometimes its really embarrassing to be an American.

    How long will it take with legal stalling to fix the bridge and help those affected if the government don’t step in, I believe 100% that the insurance needs to be held responsible but litigation in the states takes years.
    I can see both sides comfort by immediately assuring the people it will be fixed asap but he should have added legal action and responsibility will be addressed whilst repairs undertaken.
    Many class actions also will be held for those affected but it will take years. Being ex government I see both sides.

    • @stephenbeyer4315
      @stephenbeyer4315 3 месяца назад

      That's what I was jumping on to say. The insurance companies would probably try to hold it up in court for years. So the government jumping in to get it done right away, and then pursuing the insurance company to get reimbursement (including the relevant amount of interest) would probably be the way to go.

    The Federal Government should NOT be on the hook for this bridge. There are literally 10 other "actors" that should be RESPONSIBLE for paying for this before the US GOV.
    In no particular order: Insurance, Boat Company, Shipping Company, Crew, Port Insurance, Port Operator, Tug Boat/Safety Operator, other Insurance companies of all those mentioned, State of Maryland, City of Baltimore, and the list goes on a on. If the Feds want to do some sort of loan guarantee to back up the faith and credit of the others or give some interest rate help or even help woth Permitting/Environmental Studies to fast tracl a replacement: fine. But for Joe Biden to just be like "We are gonna pay for it in full!" Is ignorant and stupid.
