Strong points. My friends where Project Managers at a Tech Company. They warned me about how poorly they treat the Developers; especially the ones from overseas with Green Cards who needed sponsorship for Citizenship. Many of the Foreign Developers would get deeply depressed, and you know what that leads too... I agree 100% with Joe on this.
People think that they won't end up workin 100 hours but next thing they know a bigger company will buy them out and rules change. It can happen to anyone. Glad you made this video man.
It's true, Joe. I had one experience for being junior data analyst for small psychometric consultant in Jakarta. I work Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. until midnight for one month (only paid 500 bucks without overtime payment) and then I quit. It's like the hell. They treating me like a slave (maybe because I don't have CS degree). We need more strong union. "Programmers of the world, unite!"
@@alantinoalantonio Hope so..., I'm just newbie in Python. Next year I'm gonna try to get J-1 visa via Fulbright scholarship. Hopefully I get the scholarship and can work there :)
Notification squad reporting for duty! Sorry I'm late. Working on something BIG that will help a lot of creators like yourself. It's time we fight back against the machine! This was the problem I saw in graphic design...companies are constantly hiring young kids who are willing to be exploited. Many literally work for free because their parents pay their rent. I didn't realize this was really a thing outside of TV shows, but it is actually really common. So, what ends up happening is the senior guys exploit the younger people to protect their own jobs sometimes.
I've seen places where once it's time to clock out you clock out and you're paid a good 80k plus benefits and whatnot plus good management as well. Others I've seen put these huge 6 figures up although I suppose is if the catch is they trick you into working double hours and then you do the math and it adds to less than what you should be making, then exploitive practice. I feel like the developers who step up and walk away and say "don't be cheap and pay me what I'm worth" as they negotiate a better deal is what makes it better for the industry by stepping up and letting companies know they can't get away with such practice because their skills are high in demand and force the companies to negotiate to their terms. Not sure how it is in the middle of nowhere but here in CA there's always demands. I suppose there's some young people who are fresh and don't know how the world quite work yet I've seen who are willing to work for free which I feel reduces quality and encourage the exploitation.
I'm about to use your React.JS course to build out that real estate app for a Jr position in my area that I think I can land since nobody knows about it or hasn't applied in over a year since positing it online repeatedly
Bro for real so many companies take advantage and don’t have progression plans or even inflation adjustment! Like the situation is completely factual that many good engineers are getting fucked over because of unreasonable work hour requirements and expectations!!!
What would be more awesome would be having all people involved in this field, and companies commit to a "Hipocrattic Oath" like doctors... something like a "Hacker International Code of Ethics" or "Hacker-ICE". 1.)I will not write shit code. 2.)I will not be a douche to noobs on stack-overflow. and 3.)I will not work more than 60 hours in a week unless I get a bonus, free food and a backrub.
It's horrible that this still goes on in corporate world. Read the fine lines in the job offer. Know what you are getting into and never assume that this will be your job for life. Keep learning and building on the side for yourself. Maybe one of those projects will become your own business that you can leave working for someone else.
How often do you actually hear about the person who created some game or software? Disney didn't even give my last boss credit on the literal credits for the software he created.
I am impressed you are promoting political action. Building skills and taking advantage of whatever chances are available in the economy helps to pave the way up for some, but no man walks alone. There are so many out there, who are less lucky. Unions are super important as well as fighting for better work laws, health care and such. Check out www.democracyatwork.info and Professor Richard Wolff www.rdwolff.com. Very educational with regard to what happened to the Western economies over the last 4 decades and an inspiration as to what could be done about it.
I read on a forum or a post somewhere that 80k to 100k is now basically a lower middle class salary in silicon valley......cause its so damn expensive that some even now live out of box trucks or vans to stack that money......I definitely would be doing that. Crazy alot of people want to work at Google or any big company in the "Valley" yet that job they look over in their local area just might give them better cost of living wages for that area. You’re talking about some real shit. Exploitation isn’t just happening with unpaid overtime, but in the salary itself. If you make a company 500,000 dollars a year and they only give you 1/5 of that, you’re being exploited for far more than your overtime
The engineering industry is getting bad. I've been an engineer for 10+ years now, and the salary doesn't even cover the bills anymore. How can engineers unionize across the country and make the movement go viral? Corporations can pay us more. They just choose not to!!!
The only person who dictates how much you earn is yourself. If you think you're not getting paid enough, you have three choices. 1) Try to renegotiate a new salary. 2) Leave. 3) Shut up and keep working. Like it or not, developers are now a commodity. No different than rice, corn, and crude oil. My dad had a union shop business. Back in the 80's people were complaining that they weren't making enough money (oh, and they got paid time-and-a-half for overtime). None of them had a college degree, yet were making from $18 to $22/hr. In 1997 they demanded a crazy raise, nearly 15%. My dad said if you insist on this, I will shut this business down in five days. No one believed him. That day came and 135 people showed up with their pickets ready to protest. Something was different though. Everything was locked up. I remember being outside with my dad. He told everyone to go home. Party was over. Find a new job. Only a handful found jobs that paid as much as they were making at my dad's place. The rest took nearly 50% pay cuts. Point being, you are a union of one in today's market. Your value are the skills you bring to the table.

Try and get a job here in the US. Data Analysts make good money here. Analyst skills can transfer into many other opportunities.

I'm supportive of this idea, but one good alternative would be worker-owned/directed enterprises: institute.coop/what-worker-cooperative
