Origins is my favourite AC. For real. I think the big assassination climactic mission was bungled, but I still love the game and the mood and the sense of ancient unknowable immenseness, of vast spaces where you just might find something historical or fantastical, and have happily replayed it. Looking forward to seeing your take on it.
@@ChristianRPGGamers it took me a while to warm up to him, but I really enjoyed playing as Bayek. I also wished we’d had more interaction with… lol I forgot her name, I think a bandit woman who invites Bayek to come visit her sometime (of course he’s too much a devoted husband to take up any romantic offer). But I recall thinking they’d make an interesting team.
@@crypto40Basim is actually love an fans want him to continue as the modern day protagonist Kassandra is a good character I did the bad ending for her where she was all alone made me sympathize with her even more
AC Origins was my first ever Assassins Creed and I had a hell of a time. It played a big role in getting me back into video games. I just haven’t played something like that for a very long time. A game to get lost in. I’m not usually one to play long hours and I didn’t plan to get so addicted to AC Origins when I started it but the world was so captivating that I couldn’t put down the controller. Then I went to RUclips and found out, that all the „real“ AC fans apparently hate the new games for many reasons. So I went back and played AC1, AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations and AC3 and felt like people are very blinded by nostalgia. Not that these games were bad, I actually enjoyed them quite a bit but I found many of the criticisms people have about the new AC games are very obviously present in the older games aswell. Like the stealth aspect. I grew up with MGS and Splinter Cell. I do not consider sitting down on a park bench „stealth“ so I just don’t share the opinion, that the old AC games were stealth masterpieces while the new ones are just action rpgs. I took out so many enemy bases by sneaking up to all the guards and killing all of them silently in AC Origins so to me, AC Origins was much more of a stealth game, than the older ones. Now granted I still haven’t played Odyssey or Valhalla and I can see the points of criticism people have about these games but my experience with Origins tells me, that the issue with AC is not, that they changed the formula or made it an RPG because in my opinion Origins is up there as one of the best AC games together with the Ezio trilogy.
I feel u I’m a og ac fan myself I been playing it since I was 11 an play Valhalla first cuz I was getting back into gaming got disappointed an gave it a chance a few months later an was like it’s not bad matter fact it’s pretty good then I stop there to play origin an the story for origin was amazing I just wish the combat was better had more flare to it I got pretty bored with the combat with odyssey the combat felt pretty fun they should of stick with that combat an try make it better my favorite recent ac game is odyssey I play that game majority of the time
Bayek's character development from the beginning when he was the Mejai and become the founder of the hidden ones at the end is so smooth that I would curse Ubisoft for not making a sequel.
I jumped into Origins after having played through the Witcher 3 and I absolutely fell in love with it, and the franchise as a whole. I absolutely love this game, it is pure brilliance!
It was a masterpiece. It gave me a newfound love for history. Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. Exploring 300-400 year Roman ruins in England was so cool. Origins was so beautifully made as you explore you see how much work and artistry went into creating it! 😊
I never played any AC before this one and ngl, I only bought it because I love ancient Egypt, the atmosphere and sceneries of it. I honestly didn't expect to love it so much, or Bayek, but he's such a loveable character. And I really enjoyed clearing outposts without being seen, it was a nice challenge. I wasn't the big fan of combat, I'm not good at it in any game, but I played on easy to not rage quit at some point. I only played Mirage ever since, and while I enjoyed the tools it gives you, I missed how night time was making assassinations easier by making the guards sleep so there were fewer of them outside. I'm also not a fan of Isu and the whole plot about them, there was too much of that in Mirage, and because it was a follow up to Valhalla which I haven't play, the ending was just boring and confusing. I liked Origins better because despite being part of AC series, it was pretty open for new players that never played any AC games, and Isu was limited to only pyramids and the ending of the main game. Plus, Bayek is way better played and written than Basim, so it's easy to pick a better protagonist.
I agree with everything you have said in this video. Both Odyssey and Valhalla should have been more like Origins in many ways but id love to see a video from you on both of those games. While I understand a lot of the hate those two games get, some of it even being exactly the same as Origins, I'd love to hear your thoughts on why they aren't as stupidly bad as some people put it. Great video as well defending the best AC game in my opinion. I don't agree about Odyssey being soulless though.
I think there is a big difference between the games after the ezio trilogy when it comes to map design. in the games pre ac4 blackflag the map was only a backdrop and not meant to or expected to be explored, it was there to flesh out the story and make it a more believable world that imersed the player, and the clutter and side missions was there to just make you have something to do when you were finished with the game and felt like you still wanted to play it. Contrast that to after the desmond games where they wanted you the player to explore but failed to include the ingredient that i think is a must for openworlds to not feel like cluttered and empty lanscapes or cities. That thing is impact and i think origins nailed that, and the impact is and need to be either a mission or location that impact the players and/ or caracters in the games thaught process. Or it has to have impact in the form of changing the world or how the world is percieved by the caracters or player, and the final type of impact i feel a sidemission or place in a game need is lore, either flesh out the caracter or world so that we get to know and feel like its a living breathing thing. Also loot is good so that you get something concrete gained that might change the way you play or at least give you a boost so you feel like you progress in the game by interacting with the world. All these things make it feel like you are actually exploring instead of just checking of a list.
I actually enjoyed Origins quite a lot. It's was a good Hybrid between RPG and AC. I did hate Odyssey and Valhalla and actually also Black Flag because Black Flag was too repetitive and large for me. I already hated sailing over a big empty world in Zelda Wind Waker. I'm still sad that Aya wasn't the MC of Origins. Evie being the MC of Syndicate would have made that game better too. Jacob was just insufferable...
Just a quick note here in regards to Black Flag's traversal of piloting a pirate ship and dealing with "random ships attacking" firstly random ships don't attack you, only bounty hunters. secondly if you don't properly upgrade your ship then you will have a hard time against the "over powered ships" sorry the game doesn't hold your hand all the time to baby you along so you aren't under powered for the harder areas of the map. thirdly, and this is my opinion, I greatly prefer to sail a vast and ever changing sea than a desolate wasteland of sand and dead air. I love Origins' story and traversing the cities presented. It's just the world around it has nothing going for it at all.
I really enjoyed origins. I played it in December of 2017. I enjoyed Egypt and I think the game looks and even plays better than odyssey. Odyssey feels like a grind. Doesn’t feel like an ac game, and feels like I have to give it money to get the best experience. Origins was still a game you could pay for once and have a good time!
I'll say it brought me back into the fold, i originally dropped the series after 3 when they killed Desmond But with origins i LOVED that they brought back william miles and listening to all the ancient mechanism messages really scratches my brain itch, ac2 is still my favorite because of the insane plot twist at the end when she was actually talking to Desmond instead of ezio
I was never much of an AC player. I played the 1st game on release but it wasn't to my liking. Then, years later my youngest brother was playing Black Flag, and as a pirate enthusiast, I bought and loved the game and dlc as well as Rouge (unpopular opinion). Then, when I heard of an AC game set in Ancient Egypt, I bought the gold edition with both Dlcs on MS store for £10 (a bloody steal)... Long story short, I've completed the game 5x already and can't get enough of the afterlife worlds in Curse of the Pharaoh's. Especially Nefertiti's grassy world.
Can't save what's already been dead and buried , ac brotherhood was the last true game in the series because it's the last game Patrice Désilets was involved in , kicking out an ip creator Is never a good move but that's what happens when you value greed over respecting a human being wishes for his own proper creation.
I know it’s gonna be an unpopular opinion but odyssey was my favourite. Mainly because I love the theme of Ancient Greece and also I got attached to Kas. I spend like 200 hours in it and I don’t regret it
couple things to mention, early on in the video still. 1. The cult of Kosmos was not the precursors to the templars! its the order of the ancients, which we see in the DLC, legacy of the first hidden blade. 2. piggybacking off that, darius was not the first assassin, he was simply the first user of the hidden blade, which cleopatra then gifts darius' hidden blade to bayek. oddysey doesnt take anything about origins story away from it!
Finally someone that thinks and feels exactly like me about AC Origins. Even i call Odyssey without AC tag as well as Valhalla i literally call it as Valhalla Vikings Creed, the point you clarified about it started the rpg thing even pisses me off when people talk about it XD. I dunno y people talk about parkour here coz it simply doesnt make any sense in vastness of Egypt with all its deserts, only place in origin it made sense was city of Alexendria other towns were too small to have parkour. Also exploration was amazing in this i really hated collecting stuff in other games like every few sec a feather or a chest it was boring also it was just too much to get like 100s of feathers wtf. Yes it wasnt a perfect stealth ac game but as he said in this it really made so much sense but in others specially Valhalla it was just wtf. This is the best balanced AC game Stealth,RPG,Story,Exploration,History,Myth,DLCs etc. Also for me it was a perfect size game unlike valhalla that goes hours and hours with all its dlcs omg. LASTLY ABOUT THE GAME WHO ELSE WENT NUTS FIGHTING SEPTIMIUS 😝
I'm going through origins now, after valhalla. I'll be honest, i prefer valhalla, but I can see origins potential. Although the the mechanics sometimes look old, I like it. Still valhalla it's above for me. I loved it
this is a joke right? "hey remember all the cool ninja and parkour stuff you did in the older games? well we took all that away so you can run around in the bum fuck desert"
I know alot of People wantet an evolved unity style since the parkou was the best. They changed it into an rpg because they saw how popular it was. But to say this saved the franchise, is a little much since it divided it in two.
13:05 - "Assassin's Creed Fans" are not one person. So saying they don't know what they want is an incredibly lazy analysis. Rather than fighting each other, why not accept that because Ubisoft lacked a solid vision for the franchise, they've split the fanbase right down the middle. So no matter what Ubisoft does from this point on, 50% of the fanbase will hate it, and 50% of the fanbase will love it. I personally LOVED Mirage (although a good deal of the characters admittedly lack depth). Defos a step in the right direction to reconcile the divided fandom.
I disagree. I think mirage was okay but ubisoft don't actually realise what people love about the old games. I also heavily disagree with your first take. I can say "assassin's creed fans" as I was heavily invested in the fan base and what the general consensus was. If we can't then that means no company that does an adaptation should care about the "fan bases" opinoins. Sadly ubisoft lost it's way from wanting to do anything different so I doubt you'll see them making anything that can even get 50% of people happy with it.
This game is great narratively, especially for the lore. At least pre dlcs. I just can’t get over the gameplay. The traversal is dumbed down so much, and the combat is terrible. The non emphasis on stealth is also horrible. What made assassins creed unique wasnt crouching behind people and stabbing them, it was using the verticality of the environment and the elements of social stealth to plan your own routes to the target and eliminate them. Now it’s just fill the screen with icons and eliminate each icon 1 by 1. It’s garbage.
23:05 i would argue that while it is a romanticized version of history, red dead 2 very faithfully recreates parts of america during the late 19th and early 20th centuries
I loved Syndicate when it came out (I was 10), I recently went back and played it again, and I was super surprised by how boring the gameplay was and how bad the story is. The only new thing in that game was the grappling hook which got old quick.
I don't care about the plot. You could literally remove it and only keep the Discovery Mode and I would be satisfied. The historical recreation is the most interesting part
I agree about the historic exploration. I got literally teary-eyed getting to visit the Lighthouse of Alexandria. But the historical info text is riddled here and there with mistakes, and it makes me so frustrated, since the ancient world they gave us to explore is otherwise simply amazing.
Been playing through it. Cant get over the combat. Dont see how anyone can defend not being in control of the character for seconds at a time for unavoidable reasons (outside of just not engaging groups at all) and the complete ruining of assassinations and stealth mechanics. The consensus I see seems to be that "Change = good" with any in depth discussion of it referencing how dark souls is challenging and this is like dark souls so its good. The mission structure in this game seems pretty serviceable. The writing ranges from average to a bit bad, often contradictory or just bad dialogue. Theres a bunch of very awkwardly framed and paced scenes in it as well which just set a disjointed tone. I wound up both really liking Bayak and thinking hes a complete moron. The modern day girl is as insufferable as you may imagine, thankfully the game seems to realize it and allows you to sandbag a lot of it often and get back into the animus. But my overall takeaway is that the map and environmental artists along with the researchers and scouters are IN THE WRONG FRANCHISE. These are worlds and settings I absolutely love and the attention to detail in them are overwhelming. I got to the point where I couldnt stomach the combat but just wanted to trudge through it just to get to explore more dunes and valleys and rock formations. Its an S tier world in a C tier game.
Yeah i havent played any Ac since brotherhood. Thats 2 roght? And played origins recently. I actually really enjoyed it. I think people hated it for alot of hot topic reasons back in the day. If you look at it as a stand alone game without being burned by the mistakes of ubisoft and the rest of the franchise it was really good.
Right now I want to play Unity or Origins, which do you think I should play first? I focus more on the gameplay than the story. Previously I played Odyssey
the only reason i think that anyone actually played Odyssey is because of it going kinda back to the ancient romin/greek time period but yeah i couldnt finish the game because it felt so soul less
Origins was my favourite of the newest trilogy and wished they had done more with bayek, I do love the settings for Odyssey and valhalla but just couldn't get into them
It was too big, there are 3 areas with literally nothing in it. Now all 3 of them are deserts and while that is realistic it isn’t fun. Secondly Bayek is cool but you can see the game was designed to be Aya’s story, especially with the Hidden One’s DLC. Thirdly Bayek was on a tired revenge crusade which was just not interesting because Ezio and Arno already did it. And in closing I think we can all agree that petting Senu was the best part 😊
Hey Exiled have you covered the far cry series, if so I would love a video essay on the descent of far cry, please make one in the future if you have the time to.
The environment of Origins was good. Though I would have preferred for it to have been at the absolute height of the Pharos and before Alexander ever set out from Macedonia. The origin story of the assassins is fine in and of itself, as I can see how the story of Bayek and Aya would eventually become the basic teachings of what Altair is taught in the first game. The climbing mechanics were much more enjoyable in older games (SC 1 & 2). Like a mini puzzle that had to be unlocked. Bayek was a bad protagonist however. The cutscene where his son dies contradicts what our protagonist proclaims to have happened, so it made it difficult to not go “you’re a fucking liar Bayek” whenever he ranted about the death. Which didn’t help in terms of making me like the character.
He was in denial due to the trauma he endured. He knew deep down how he accidentally cuased the death of his son ans he chnaged and grew as a person ober the course of the narrative.
This was the first ac I'd played since black flag, and in all honesty it didn't click with me. The parkour felt weak, the story didn't have me that intrigued and I wasn't a fan of the need to do side quests to progress effectively. That being said though, I'd still consider it far better than the other two rpg games.
See I wanted to like this video, until he called me a random person who just wants a lengthy game that has zero sole in it. So yeah I love Odyssey and I could probably do a 3hour video on why. Anyway I agree with most of your video. I also really like Origins. I just can't agree with you on hating Odyssey. Probably because Odyssey was my first AC, I didn't know what to expect but yeah, as long as you don't look at it like an AC game you'll realize it's incredible. But I get why a lot of people can't do that.
Origins a fresh breath of air; Odyssey great open world arpg an improvement of Origin gameplay, but terrible for being an "AC" game; Valhalla, i havent played it yet.
I personally think Syndicate and Unity are great games , Valhalla on the other hand looks good but very tedious. Black flag ,Rouge and AC I really enjoyed.
1:02:00 unity and syndicate already had levelled areas and synch points used to get abilities. So technically it was like that already earlier. Maybe the levelled loot was rhe defining factor?
You also needed enough levels to progress story in Syndicate and needed to complete quests to progress from one area to the next. So, what's so different? Was it about spreading the game area?
hope they stop yearly releases cus its mentally exhausting that brought players fatigue, shortens a game lifespan, and w/ that its easy to discern the changes each game so comes the infamous "Ubisoft Formula". i had my expectations low w/ the next three upcoming new AC game (Mirage, Hexe, and Red).
based of their schedule I would assume that they will try to release yearly. I believe all the games they announced last year are intended to be released by 2025
Unity really sucks. Sorry it does. Everything about it IS broken no matter what way you slice it. It needed to a total rework from the ground up. Origins was good. I liked it.
The ac fan base is like two siblings who’s trying get they parents approval like every siblings there’s one that the parents love a lil more and it seems like Ubisoft love the RPG trilogy more
I get a feeling a few people claim that the world of Origins is boring might have replayed the game on NG+ which I'd argue is detrimental to the game's gameplay loop and pacing. I did it once and rushed the main story in just a few hours and can honestly say the game is worse with it.
I enjoyed it when i stopped thinking assasins creed. It just felt like a hacknslash rpg in Egypt rather than an assasins creed. Also the medjay being the origin lost me. But fun game but that was the decline for me. Now odyssey was just bad and valhalla made me loose all faith. I could have stuck if bayeks story went more stealth if he had more entries.
loved this game with ac4 too. Just finished valhalla like 2 weeks ago after i started it in late december last year; after 238 hours i can say it 6.5/10 but it way way to loonng. I played everything from it.
Even though I grew up with the old school acs but no lie I be playing the RPG trilogy scratch that I call it the layal hassen trilogy odyssey is one of my favorite but Valhalla is a love an hate
Judging the video based on its own merit, there's about an hour here of almost nothing being said. This isn't stemming from a disagreement about Origins. Actually, I do agree that the formula got stale. The issue I take with the video is that it's primarily a "take my word for it" video with little to no actual proof to back up any of the claims that are being made. For example: Bayek is a deep character. Ok, show me how. Again, I'm not refuting it, but there is no evidence presented in the video except to take your word for it. Bayek is out for vengeance? I disagree. He ultimately is the one who killed his son, something that had no mention in this video to aid in any depth that it claims he has. Another major complaint that I've seen about the RPG games is that it all comes down to what level your character is, which unfortunately is true. Skill does have a role to play in these games, but enemies are magically sponges until you're at least on their same level. You can parry, dodge, etc all you want, but even a grunt will take minutes to take down if you try to explore too far out. I saw nothing about this complaint, even though it's a common one. Or, the fact that grinding takes sooooo long after a certain point because of the microtransactions that Ubisoft tries to sell to make XP gains better. There isn't even any real discussion about Caesar and Cleopatra. You just give your opinion on them and provide zero supporting arguments as to WHY you feel that way. I enjoy the RPG variants of this series. I just wish that considering the length of this video, there would be actual...facts in it. Showing pictures of the complaints that you're trying to disprove or showing in game dialog to back up your arguments. Unfortunately, this is just an overly biased opinion piece with no real supporting argument other than "take my word for it." There's a lot of good in this game. If you're the one reporting on it, you need to actually SHOW it, don't just tell us about it.
that's just you don't like the style of video I make, I don't want to have a video be triple the time as I ram in everything about the points I'm making to back the points up when people will just say "well no actually"
not to mention, there's a bit of misinformation in it regarding the legacy of the first blade DLC, like saying the cult of kosmos was the precursor to the templars, which they aren't!
@Exiled 3 things: 1- Origins is my favorite of all ACs. Wont say it's a better game than lets say Brotherhood or others, just that I enjoyed it the most. 2- You keep saying Unity's parkour is the best and a shame it got pulled out of Origins. What exactly is different about parkour in Origins? The nicely set parkour paths in the world and buildings created by Level Designers? Or the actual parkour behavior? I think it's worth considering that a decreased parkour experience in Origins could be because of a lack of opportunities to do so. 3- You are factually wrong about who's behind ACBF and ACO's visions. Ashraf Ismail was NOT Black Flag's creative director and was NOT Origin's creative director. For both titles, it was Jean Guesdon, seen at the beginning of your video presenting Origins to the world at E3. Ashraf was in both cases, Game Director with zero creative decision power over the setting, the story and general vision. He was however responsible for how that vision got translated into gameplay elements. How far should X or Y system be pushed. Whats a good fight system for RPG... Stuff like that. Then when Jean Guesdon left the brand for other projects, Ashraf became creative director of Valhalla. He left the company before it shipped, for various reasons as you said. Additional fact, Jean worked very closely with writer Darby McDevitt for both BF and Origins I do agree with many conclusions you come to in your analysis, not all but doesnt mean you're wrong. At this point it is very subjective. But very good video, really enjoyed it.
I said it was the same studio not the same lead So why are you putting words in my mouth? I never said it's the best ac game. I said it's the best of the new games. That isn't the reason for the stripped-down parkour mechanics. Even with the change in location which adds to a limited amount of cool-looking traversal you still should be left with the ability to parkour and have full control over your movements like in Unity. Your thumbsick location on both sides and buttons actually did stuff, In origins it just holds the trigger and you've now climbed something.
@@Exiled7 You say at 39m25s that Ashraf Ismail was CD for Black Flag, Origins and Valhalla. Which is not the case for BF and Origins. But yes, same studio. That is true. I never said you said Origins is the best AC, I said Origins is MY best AC. Wont even dispute that other ACs are generally accepted as better than Origin and thats fine, wont change that I like it better over the others. For the parkour, makes sense. How good the parkour itself looks or opportunities for it arent really what makes the difference, it's the lack of control while doing it. Thanks for the clarification. Again, really liked your video.
Valhalla does need stealth correct but I don’t understand why people are complaining about its length if you don’t like how long it is then don’t play the whole game. It’s on you if you’re waste your time.
dumbest comment every. The point of games is for people to enjoy them and idealy finish them. Valhalla is a 70 hour game minimum and it's filled with bloat. If you like the game that shows more about your willingness to be shafted by a company like Ubisoft than it does of the people who think it's terrible game design.
na a game that’s bloated with content for no reason and sells XP boosters in a game they said wouldn’t have it in and allowed themselves to get the praise for not doing it to then change there mind a month after launch is an objectively bad game
@@Exiled7 I knew people were stupid, but I didn’t know people as stupid as you. What part of that’s your opinion don’t you understand? Just because you don’t like the game doesn’t mean it’s a bad game and they give the options to sell XP boosters nowhere throughout the game you actually need it so if you fall for what your complaining about and bought it that’s your fault. You can earn every item in the game without buying it with real money it’s called just having patience if I pay more than $100 for a game I expect it to be more than 100 hours. So if you’re gonna complain and go back to Fortnite and spend all your money on skins because you like to partake in useless transactions apparently.
Valhalla took the place as the all time worst assasins creed. It was so bad that assasins creed streamer left the Franchise. No game should be that blant while being that big. Not to mention the dlc😅 i enjoyed origin when I stoppede looking at it as an AC game but afterwards it was all downhill😅
sure in the same way any game that allows you to have a level or character progression and customisation is. Something can have mechanics that are stereotypically RPG and not be an RPG. all the games besides maybe 4 and little aspects of unity weren’t rpgs
Origins is the last and Best Assassin's Creed game. It's just everything make sense in this game. Missions and side quests have meaning. True living culture in every corner. No BS, just pure experience. #assasimscreed #ubisoft #origins
Personally hated origins onwards... Not even bothered to buy the newer ones, I don't even know what they're called. For me, 3 & 4 were the right step in the direction (that I wanted) I was not the biggest fan of the 2, brotherhood and revelations. Ezio is cool and all... But it just wasn't.. it for me.. it was just a really cheesy story about an overly rich Italian man who all the girls wanted... Ezio wasn't in the least bit interesting for me.. he was a blank canvas for people to project onto... If I wanted that I'd play halo. For me it was the focus on narrative that I wanted more of. As annoying as Conner was in 3, the story of his entire life was a huge one for me.. as stupid as him playing hide and seek was really a thing, I hated that part, but it really was setting the scene of how life was for him before the templars took everything from him ... And his story of revenge.. getting Charles lee.. and then 4... The story of his grandfather.. Edward, who was never an assassin and only really was for a very short time in the game (I honestly thought ac4 was half the length than it was supposed to be.. I always thought Edward would actually do stuff for the assassin's but no.. not really.. he just earns their respect) That for me was the step in the right direction.. I don't agree with the dumbing down on combat and free running in 3&4.. but it's the everything else.. It was the hunting in 3 The boarding in 4. The bond that ade and Edward have. The set pieces... The way it felt.. The way Conner had to find his own assassins throughout the map before you could call on them... The fact you had missions specifically based on them. It was the fact you could go to new York and do some stuff, go back to the homestead and craft something, ship it to sell it, and walk around and look at the people you have brought back living the life. (I loved the camp life on horseshoe overlook and Clements point in rdr2 too so I'm biased) The characters in both.. It was Edward and his ship singing shanties.. Being wanted on the sea.. Visiting multiple cities (even though they were just very small sections compared to previous titles) It was landing at a small island just to dig up treasure. It was Edwards story of realisation... About his selfishness in the beginning of the game, and his redemption. That was the assassin's creed I thought the franchise should've moved towards... Even unity I thought was Excellent... Then the London one came out .. and it was... Just not it.. It just wasn't. I tried origins. I didn't finish it I was that bored. It's my own personal opinion. But I think the franchise took a U-turn to what I wanted.. What I wanted probably isn't what the vast majority of people wanted but I don't really care. It's a shame to be honest. A darn shame I loved the ability for AC to tell stories.. And mix in the ability to create your own. I love RPGs.. I grew up on MMOs specifically.. But RPGs in general.. Especially turn based. But this ain't it chief I remember hating this game. Maybe coming back with a different perspective will change my mind but... I don't think it will. Just like far cry 3 will always be the best.. of course companies need to try to "innovate" but If you found the formula.. why change it? Just refine what is there. Red dead redemption did it perfectly, what I'm talking about with 2. Yeah I honestly think ac3 was the best one. And I ain't even American.. but that rendition of the independence war was excellent... I just wish they focused on more narrative than anything.. But then again clearly I'm the black sheep in assasins creed fans.. I ain't even a fan anymore I just like your content exiled you're an intelligent young man Keep it up
Old assassins creed had good stealth. You're a sillybilly for being gaslit into 'it was never actually good'. To say stealth wasnt a core mechanic in them makes me suspicious you never played them. And to say this game requires more stealth than the old ones. Well, I just don't know what to say about that. Its just incorrect.
I never said they required more stealth than anything before origins. I said origins required stealth vs odyssey and Valhalla. Also outside of walking into crowds and the occasional being forced into stealth most missions within the Ezio collection, 3 and black flag can be completed with bordering no stealth. you can just wait behind a wall and walk after that. Having stealth in a game doesn’t mean it’s a great stealth game.
Classic AC has its own version of stealth, it's unique, then they caved and made it more like other stealth games with Unity. Though AC3 brought crouching but it was contextual. There was bootleg crouching from the start as well. But I really like that AC had their own ideas on stealth and have a lot of fun with them.
Gate keepers are the worst, origins literally saved the franchise from the same boring bland plot and Odyssey took what made origins great and made it better.
I loved Origins and Bayek as a character especially, and like what it did with AC. I think Odyssey is great as well but wish they hadn't changed the gear system from that of Origins--too complicated and fiddly.
This is so true. I often get comments telling me "why is your fav game origins, its the game that ruined the series".. I lose hope in the AC community when I see messages like that.. They are so blind to change and want AC to be the same constantly. A fresh change was needed.
Odyssey is trash, and the worst rated game in the franchise. Terrible stealth, terrible combat, and a terrible story. It's not gatekeeping, it's just that you have poor taste in story and gameplay.
I agree - but also disagree. Now the following statement is from someone who's favorite game is Rogue, followed by Black Flag. I love Origins' story, and Bayek as a character. However, I cannot stand the combat. Stealth is quite good, but my God, the combat is horrendous. I hate RPG, "attack, attack, dodge, repeat" combat. I also think it's goofy to hit an enemy forty or fifty times and they're still attacking me. My real issue with Odyssey. It did what Origins did but butchered it mercilessly. The game has the WORST acting in the franchise. Kassandra is a boring and corny protagonist, and Alexios is just slightly more tolerable. The combat is practically the same, but stealth was taken to a whole new level where only completely trash players enjoy it. There is almost no reason to ever play stealth and there were no real stealth gadgets. The story is probably one of the weakest stories the series. Valhalla, well, mostly the same complaints, however, it's not quite as bad, except it's too long.
The people that hate on origins are the same people that label red dead redemption 2 as a boring snoozefest. Without robots or monsters every 5 seconds they don't have the attention span to even follow the story 😂
@@MacCormaic it does? I have like 500 hours on origins and aside from the optional animus trials and curse of the pharoahs dlc I haven't seen many goofy monsters.
Do not get things twisted. I love Bayak's story but, I think that Aya's story was more interesting. You hear it in the dialogues. YOu get to see some of it in her missions on the boat. I would have loved to have played the things she was involved in. Like maybe release some DLC for her stuff? I doubt they ever will revisit her stuff but I think it would have been fun.
I wish we’d played the game as Aya if not to get her story then so that the big climax wouldn’t have been so jolting-so that we’d have honed her skill set and weapons and moves and would have been prepared to use everything we’d learned and our own play style for a big challenge. Rather than being basically stripped down to a disadvantaged state.
AC: Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are the best AC games, IMO. Period. Looking forward to replaying all of them in VR. (Yes, i tried one of the older AC games, allegedly the best one - Black Flag - found it boring/artificial/handholdy and uninstalled after a couple hours. After that i thought that AC is not for me, but Origins changed everything.)
I'm sorry but if this is your take you're simply not a fan of AC games. It's perfectly fine btw, nobody said you had to like AC or anything. However making the claim that Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla are the best AC games despite the fact that the later 2 aren't even AC games at all, shows a complete lack of understanding of what AC actually is. If you just said they're your 3 favorite games in the AC franchise because you don't actually like AC but instead prefer open world RPG games than I'd have no argument with you. Different strokes for different folks and all that. However that's not what you said, therefore I do have an issue with it.
@Owlr4ider What didn't you understand about "IMO"? I hated AC previously, i love it now with the new trilogy. It's not my fault that Ubisoft decided to call those games AC. But this is the way forward now, and if you don't like it, no one keeps you from playing the old games as long as you want. I do that with Unreal Gold, because it's one of my all times favorites, and Epic can never top this one. I just finished the main story in Origins in VR, and while i realized that i like Valhalla and Odyssey better, it's still miles ahead of "Black Flag", IMO. There are rumors of a "Black Flag" remake, to modernize that game, so i'm really looking forward to try it again - maybe i'll like it better then.
@@marcdwonn9772 I understood perfectly, it's ironic you said: 'it's not my fault Ubisoft decided to call those games AC' while refusing to understand what I told you. You said it perfectly right there...
The main problem for me with Origins is that it's extremely bloated, it's way too long and uninteresting for the most part. Tbh I don't see anyone being interested in all the smaller bosses' backgrounds. Even worse is must have levels and the farming of xp. That is hideous. I don't get why it is needed. I was furious about it and had to force myself to finish the game, and looking back honestly, it wasn't worth that much hours. Another big problem is how boring the actual fighting and close combat is. Ubisoft seems completely unable to figure it out. But putting heavier emphasis on it certainly is a mistake. Despite that, Origins is still a solid game. I don't understand the complaints about the RPG aspects. It doesn't change anything. And finally, there were some unique side quests like the pyramid explorations.
Yeah I agree. The main quest is quite long. And practically you need to complete side quests to gain XP. Personally I don't mind since as a completionist I like doing a game 100% but I get why many people are annoyed. This becomes even worse in Odyssey Combat in Origins is best in any AC game, however it speaks more about the poor quality of combat in AC games
Did I imply in the video that Greece was older? Closet thing would have been me saying that this game set in Eygpt is set a head of the game that is set in Greece.
I’m sorry, but you’re just plain wrong. Criticising the game because it’s an RPG is valid criticism. There were touches of RPG mechanics in previous games, but pretty much nobody liked them. And I’m not hating the game retrospectively, by the way. I hated this game as soon as I saw the god awful dark souls controls, with attacks mapped to the triggers and bumpers. If Assassin’s Creed 2 won me completely over and made me stop hating the first game, this game was the final nail in the coffin and pretty much got me back to being completely disgusted with the series. I’m listening to your content because I generally like it, but I am done with both this series and Ubisoft as a whole. They even managed to ruin my beloved Prince of Persia series. And of course the Sands of Time trilogy was never ported off the damned PS3, because why bother when they can peddle that new 2D trash, same as what they did to Rayman. Oh and Black Flag was always awful. The map was way too big for the boring traversal and that stupid boat was too intrusive and it felt like it was 90% Sea of Thieves, rather than Assassin’s Creed. You couldn’t go 10 minutes of the main story without having to get down on that slow ass boring AF boat. And what baffles me the most is how some of the same people would complain about the Batmobile in Arkham Knight, despite the Batmobile being fast and frantic, having flawless controls and handling and generally being a lot better than a chunk of drifting wood. Oh and the story and characters of Black Flag weren’t really that great either.
I never said you can't complain because it's an RPG and the mechancis of the game. I said you can't complain over the idea that it's the game that started the RPG trend just because you don't like the newer games. A lot in the fans of AC don't like Origins only because it was the start that led to Valhalla. Also Couldnt' disagree more about blackflags story and characters. I agree that the world is a bit to big but really it's better to make the ships feel like a utility and not an optional thing to use in the pirate game.
@@Exiled7 i definitely beat most of them multiple times lol. People get attached to connor cus of the horrible events as a child. Shows the least emotion of all protagonists. Tell me who else is worse?
Jacob Fry, Evior and Kassandra. I would also say if your first argument is mainly about him not caring about the creed and being in to it for revenge that’s pretty much the plot of most the games. AC 2 literally is that, Ezio doesn’t care until the very end of the game and even then he doesn’t understand it. Conner doesn’t speak English as his first language for starters which is why he doesn’t talk as much as others but also to say that he lacks emotion is a bit ridiculous. He grew up with his mother and most the tribe burning in front of him and then wants revenge. I’m pretty sure I would be incredibly angry if that was to happen to me. Anger is a completely fine emotion to have and should be portrayed in fiction, not just the stereo typical action hero who’s out for revenge but also sweet talks the ladies and is funny. That’s not what life is mate.
@@Exiled7 my main point was how mono tone and lifeless he is .. kassandra and frys personalities are for sure more lively to them. Eivor ill give you that as a tie Also, you wrote a whole paragraph explaining why my comment was right. Yes its definitely understandable why he is that way but it means hes a very bland character and people love him cus of his suffering. If he was the makm character of say black flag people would hate him.
I don't get your point then. So do you want him to be this lively character? Most people if you experience a form of traumatic event like your parents dying and the whole village burning that was your only form of community aren't going to be out here with massive loads of energy. If it proves your point by saying people only care because of his childhood then fine, that's the whole point of giving the character back story. It's like saying "people only care about Ezio's story because he was given an injustice and watched half his family die". The only reason some people don't like Connor now and many didn't on launch was that he as a different type of protagonist to the normal character you get in every single film and game in existence.
Origins ruins Ceasar with turning him into a power hungry tyrant. He gave citizenship to many residents of far regions of the Roman Republic. He initiated land reforms to support his veterans and initiated an enormous building programme. He basically distributed wealth from rich to poor. He was a populist. And Origins turns him into a bad guy because he was supposed to be Templar not because of his ideology. They at least could've tried to show how he was using his good guy facade for something nefarious but no, they just changed him and Brutus' political stances. Brutus and his co. assasinated him because he was a part of the elite and didn't wanted peasants to have same right as him. And people say this game is historically "accurate" when it's not. Also I strongly disagree with Origins having good side content. It's okay but nothing special compared to Black Flag's naval battles, forts, diving spots or Syndicate's carriage chases, kidnappings, smuggling or even compared to Valhalla's raids and sieges. Most of the side quests are extremely forgettable. Origins doesn't justify it's size when best side content in it is condensed to 2 areas with pyramids. Also how Origins respects the lore of AC? All it does is retconning established lore for an origin story that doesn't need to be told. Half the Monterrigioni statues aren't Assassins thanks to Origins. Not even the inventor of hidden blade was an Assassin.
I'm not a master of history, but I think people have to understand that Origins is still a GAME with A LOT of fiction, if they have to change some ideology of a historical figure so that he fits into some group, I won't have a problem, Robespierres himself Unity caused great controversy, but you don't talk about that. Gladiator arena and hippodrome>>>any Syndicate activity. Black Flag is a game largely focused on naval battle, what is the logic in this comparison. LOL, they are still assassins, but not official ones, but they still share the same ideologies and tactics.
But I recall thinking they’d make an interesting team.
thats the same expeirence w/ odyssey for me, but less for being an AC game w/ how convoluted its timeline.
Origins is my second favourite story in AC. Place number 1 is part 2 and brotherhood.
Facts
Same. It gave me a newfound love for ancient history. It was such a beautiful game to explore
What a CRIME we did not get a Bayek/Aya sequel or trilogy!
We don't need even less creativity in a series that is already on it's 13th game
It’s crazy how people like bayek and Edward get 1 game but were forced to deal with basim and Kasandra 2 games later
@@doltBmB A sequel isn't automatically less creative....did you even think that out before you said it?
@@crypto40Basim is actually love an fans want him to continue as the modern day protagonist Kassandra is a good character I did the bad ending for her where she was all alone made me sympathize with her even more
This video is so perfect. As somebody that loves origins and feels that change was needed, every point you made in this video is spot on.
Hey dude glad to see you here, love your videos!
Origins is fine, but God, Odyssey is garbage.
The best story, the best protagonist, best graphics, best inmersion, best AC
Bayek should have gotten a sequel
I agree . It saved the franchise . I was done with UbiSoft . Origins brought me back . I enjoyed Odyssey aswell
I'll say it brought me back into the fold, i originally dropped the series after 3 when they killed Desmond
But with origins i LOVED that they brought back william miles and listening to all the ancient mechanism messages really scratches my brain itch, ac2 is still my favorite because of the insane plot twist at the end when she was actually talking to Desmond instead of ezio
Can't save what's already been dead and buried , ac brotherhood was the last true game in the series because it's the last game Patrice Désilets was involved in , kicking out an ip creator Is never a good move but that's what happens when you value greed over respecting a human being wishes for his own proper creation.
just a bad take. Just because he wasn't working on it doesn't mean games that came after weren't any good.
I loved it
I stopped playing these after Ass 3, but is saw a review last month like this so I brought it and it was woth it, great period in history.
this is a joke right? "hey remember all the cool ninja and parkour stuff you did in the older games? well we took all that away so you can run around in the bum fuck desert"
yep, and people still wanted change. You can't just remake the same games for over half a decade without making people bored of your gmaes.
This is the only assassins creed game I've played and it was amazing altho I don't play it to much anymore its one of my favorite games and storys
I'm currently playing ac origins rn and enjoy it pretty much the thing I don't like is the map is soooo big
Lame
42:00 when you hear your national anthem as a lowfi remix in a random AC video essay that your watching ? i am confused.
Origins for sure
Idk if this replay was to late
@@Adonnizzz But somehow I found many negative comments about Origins. One of them is about the too short playtime
@@RekeikoYT just recently copped origins for $8 on sale last week, main campaign short but im 85 hours in the game doing everything around the map lol
@@Adonnizzz Yes, I mean Origins should be honoured, after all Origins is the only one of the RPG trilogy that still relates to AC
the only reason i think that anyone actually played Odyssey is because of it going kinda back to the ancient romin/greek time period but yeah i couldnt finish the game because it felt so soul less
The fact that Ubisoft had the perfect opportunity for another beloved trilogy… they could’ve even had Greece!
It's both a crime and a blessing that Origins never got a sequel, I don't trust 2018~ Ubisoft to not mess it up somehow.
Hey Exiled have you covered the far cry series, if so I would love a video essay on the descent of far cry, please make one in the future if you have the time to.
defiantly on the list but won’t be for a while!
Ive been gaming for decades, but i didnt get into AC until black flag and origins
But I get why a lot of people can't do that.
the kenway trilogy and origins are my favorite ac games
Origins a fresh breath of air; Odyssey great open world arpg an improvement of Origin gameplay, but terrible for being an "AC" game; Valhalla, i havent played it yet.
I'm just OBSESSED with this game.
I believe all the games they announced last year are intended to be released by 2025
I just cleaned the hell out of my bathroom
One of my favourite AC games. Nice video.
Best part of Valhalla is the ability to slide
23:10 KingdomComeDeliverance succeeded in this, however, it is probably not suitable for the mosr casual player, just a semi-casual one
Amazing game, Bayek deserves a trilogy
can you make a video on a game called The Indigo Parallel? it is super trippy
Unity really sucks. Sorry it does. Everything about it IS broken no matter what way you slice it. It needed to a total rework from the ground up. Origins was good. I liked it.
7:00 honestly now I just wish the delayed unity. That would have made rogue more worth it. Also wouild have made Unity more polished and enjoyable
The most boring Assassin's creed game ever released
loved this game with ac4 too. Just finished valhalla like 2 weeks ago after i started it in late december last year; after 238 hours i can say it 6.5/10 but it way way to loonng. I played everything from it.
238 hours on one campaign is definitely too much for any game 😂
Even though I grew up with the old school acs but no lie I be playing the RPG trilogy scratch that I call it the layal hassen trilogy odyssey is one of my favorite but Valhalla is a love an hate
Origin slaps
I just found the quests too repetitive and side content boring but I liked the map a lot and Bayek
origins is a very good game but all the systems besides combat got downgraded and the writers don’t know what a creed is
New to the channel. Really great video! Subbed!
Unfortunately, this is just an overly biased opinion piece with no real supporting argument other than "take my word for it."
There's a lot of good in this game.
@Exiled
3 things:
1- Origins is my favorite of all ACs.
Additional fact, Jean worked very closely with writer Darby McDevitt for both BF and Origins
I do agree with many conclusions you come to in your analysis, not all but doesnt mean you're wrong.
@@Exiled7
You say at 39m25s that Ashraf Ismail was CD for Black Flag, Origins and Valhalla.
@@Exiled7 ? Tf you saying. you think it’s a terrible game have you forgotten? That’s an opinion not a fact.
na a game that’s bloated with content for no reason and sells XP boosters in a game they said wouldn’t have it in and allowed themselves to get the praise for not doing it to then change there mind a month after launch is an objectively bad game
Is no one going to mention that assassin‘s Creek game has always been RPG games.
sure in the same way any game that allows you to have a level or character progression and customisation is.
Wait, you're not looking forward to playing as a gay black samurai lol?
@@Particle_Ghost 😅 not planning
Personally hated origins onwards... Not even bothered to buy the newer ones, I don't even know what they're called.
For me, 3 & 4 were the right step in the direction (that I wanted)
I was not the biggest fan of the 2, brotherhood and revelations.
I always thought Edward would actually do stuff for the assassin's but no.. not really.. he just earns their respect)
That for me was the step in the right direction..
I don't agree with the dumbing down on combat and free running in 3&4.. but it's the everything else..
It was the hunting in 3
The boarding in 4.
(I loved the camp life on horseshoe overlook and Clements point in rdr2 too so I'm biased)
The characters in both..
It was Edward and his ship singing shanties..
Being wanted on the sea..
Visiting multiple cities (even though they were just very small sections compared to previous titles)
It was landing at a small island just to dig up treasure.
A darn shame
I loved the ability for AC to tell stories..
I ain't even a fan anymore
I just like your content exiled you're an intelligent young man
Keep it up
hi yall
A fresh change was needed.
the community is between apologist or hypocrisy. i lean towards an apologist i guess
Odyssey is trash, and the worst rated game in the franchise. Terrible stealth, terrible combat, and a terrible story.
It's not gatekeeping, it's just that you have poor taste in story and gameplay.
@@MacCormaic lol stay mad clown 🤡
Origins is easily the best rpg title
Origins is the game that has goofy monsters ever 5 seconds though? And I don't even mind Origins.
@@MacCormaic it does? I have like 500 hours on origins and aside from the optional animus trials and curse of the pharoahs dlc I haven't seen many goofy monsters.
@@mcw-lg2dm neither do any of the old games. But these new ones have gods and goddesses, and, including DLCs, have more than the old games.
I highly enjoyed rogue tbh
This becomes even worse in Odyssey
Combat in Origins is best in any AC game, however it speaks more about the poor quality of combat in AC games
"Too long" 20-30 hours long, standard gaming average.
I love the channel but Egypt is older than Greece. A lot of Greek philosophy is stolen/inspired from the birth place of Egypt
Did I imply in the video that Greece was older? Closet thing would have been me saying that this game set in Eygpt is set a head of the game that is set in Greece.
Its a good game. Fun experience.
No character is more overrated and bland than connor. 0 emotion other than anger at times. Doesnt care about the ac just wants revenge.
just means you looked at the game at a very surface level way and didn’t take a lot of facts into account
Eivor ill give you that as a tie
Also, you wrote a whole paragraph explaining why my comment was right.
❤
Other than the woke garbage in the game, I’d say it was definitely one of the best AC titles.
What "woke" garbage is in ac origins? Are you sure you're not finding things that you believe to be woke that aren't?
AC Valhalla is awesome.
na
You can be an assassin and fight in the street, your right about the stealth
