New Starlink design has MAJOR improvements, one drawback

- Dishy McFlatface became Dishy McRectangle overnight!
Starlink has a new rectangle design. The broadband service, which just exited its beta phase, is now sporting a smaller, rectangle shape.
One drawback to the second-gen dish is the lack of a built-in Ethernet port, which can be found on the original Starlink dish. Instead, the company is selling an Ethernet adaptor for the dish via the Starlink online shop.
Starlink has reportedly tried to make a smaller, cheaper version of the unit which at one point was costing upwards of 3,000 USD to make.
We hope this new design will translate into more orders fulfilled from eager customers!

Starlink is now experiencing rectile dish function :-)
I emphallically applaud you linguist creativity.
Such a cunning linguist.
Beta. Users. Lol. And you can use a pole.
I want one that is Hex shaped, like the Starship Hex tiles.
I want one that is espherical shape, like a round butt
Just got my email notification for my starlink kit order today...paid today and can't wait. I'm in Newfoundland, Canada and I'm currently with Bell and only get 4mb download and 500kb upload...should be an awesome improvement. I'm on the outskirts of town and no other service is available to me other than explornet sat and I had that and it sucked...lol. I can't wait and was so excited to see the email today...couldn't belive it...lol.
works awesomely!!!!!
If youre still waiting on you v3 starlink I actually mightve put yours together lol
I live in Nova Scotia, had ordered the Starlink kit on January 1st 2022 and just received it yesterday. They sent me the rectangular dish with the new router which I wasn't expecting. So far, it's great!
I’d just be happy if I could get the first version.
They have a 2 year backlog
2 years from when? I’ve been waiting 1 year already.
@@TomBTerrific last I heard they make 5k units a week and have a back log of over 200k orders.
@@TomBTerrific my family ordered ours last week and got it yesterday i don’t think there’s a 2 year backlog

HOLY EYE MAKEUP!
Your excitement is infectious. With the pace of innovation, it's hard not to be excited. :-)
I have had some great performance with Starlink, I wonder if there is any difference in performance with the new hardware. The best download speed I have recorded is 411Mbps with average of 200Mbps download. Gaming ping times are lower than the cable internet at my old place too.
new equipment is likely cheaper and less well made
@@mikethetoolman8776 The lack of ethernet passthrough is bad. I connect into an Unifi network and need that. The round dish looks cooler even if its heavy.
@@webluke we have the round one, feels well built and sturdy
Dam. I have gotten a most of 171 mbs on new starlink dish. (Also the router has a really short range and lack of Ethernet port is frustrating.)
@@TheDashingCat Ya, the speeds have dropped on average below 150Mbps over the past few months. It wasn't good they changed the design without Ethernet passthrough.
Dishy McFlatter face?
Ground pole mount was already an option. The wall pass-through, and brick wall pass-through were also available on the website.
What do people say when Ellie pops in? "What a dish!... oh, and that girl looks nice too." (sorry, I couldn't resist the pun).
I live in Central Florida. I put myself on there Starlink service list about 9 months ago(Feb-March). At that time it showed that service was not going to be available till late 2021.
Today I noticed a notification on my phone from Starlink! Yahoo!!! After reading the email message it was full of self promotion about the expanded coverage achieved around the world and the increase in countries where its available. Then it spoke about silicon shortages and delivery delays then instructed me to sign in to my account on their site to get my revised connection/service date. I logged in not much information or any ability to speak to anyone. There is a cancellation link. Then I spotted my estimated service date. Late 2022! Holly Shit Elon that will make it almost 2 yrs of waiting! That’s if they don’t have more excuses by then!😡😭🤬
That orbital ellipse part... Priceless...
Hey Elon, we want a Starlink for rv's, that travel..lol
They're working on making it mobile
I am still waiting for anything starlink
Thanks for a great video. Now what I am curious about is whether it would perform better, particularly in extreme heat, but we might not know that for a while.
"Known to grow and love." I think we're on the same page, LOL!
Somebody watched the new Star Wars, where the Millennium Falcon went from a round antenna dish in the original trilogy, to a rectangular antenna dish in the new trilogy, with no explanation.
Because Yoda.
Just had surgery on Nov. 17th, got an email from Starlink on Nov.18th stating my unit will ship the 22nd. I received V2 Dishy on Nov. 24th evening before Thanksgiving. Between my surgery and Thanksgiving I had no time to go to my land in Southern Arizona to deploy this Gem. I plan on getting down there before next weekend and hooking it up. I did order the ethernet port too but won't be in until next week.
Hello from Argentina!! You are so beautiful I wanna cry, nice vids!
From what I learned, the best 3D antenna has an elliptical parabolic shape, (usually only a small segment of it is used)
"The Dishy that we have known to grow and love" ... if only we _could_ grow our own! :-)
yea wtf does she mean by grow? Does she think she grew that piece of plastic? This woman is pretty cooky.

Ethernet delete is a big deal. Having to pay extra is a big deal. Can the new dish be plugged directly into my router or a switch? looks like the router is now also the POE injector. Kind of scary, that. Seems the Ethernet adapter is $20. Anyway, my plan was to not use their wifi at all; go directly to my own network.
$20 is pretty reasonable for a gigabit ethernet adapter. I was expecting some Apple-like price shock. Sure you can find some no-names for a lot less on eBay, but I've always had fewer headaches sticking with recognizable brands.
My square dish works like a charm. Hoping they provide a flashing kit for the pivot mount soon!
So now we have to pay extra to be able to connect it to our own router. Why did they get rid of the ethernet port? I wouldn't think that would be much of a cost savings, or is it that they just want to make money selling extra hardware?
Exactly
To be clear the drawback was that Ethernet is now an optional extra at 01:00 so normal usage is expected to be via WiFi.
Yeah, I'll keep my router; I use an ethernet cable to my switch and like it that way.
That's going to fit very nicely flat against the back of the cab in the Cybertruck load bay, with an automated swing bracket.
Your inside source is slow I am getting my new rectangle dishy today! Live in Frazier Park I will finally trash and burn 🔥 ATT slow expensive internet.
I'm curious if there is a difference in power consumption between the 2 dish types?
Just a heads up, I ordered my Starlink last April and FedEx just delivered my new Square Starlink today
...still waiting in rural Spain. Madrid is dragging it's heels on regulatory issues, as well as the chip shortage. Much needed in rural locations here. Local microwave links are very oversubscribed so consistency and 10Mbps a problem.
I have my starlink plugged into a unmanned switch where my desk top computer is plugged into also it stopped working a few days ago. I got a email from them telling me they made changes to there network and only support 1 IP address. My computer does not operate correctly plugged into the router. I am not a computer expert any advice I can understand ?
Thanks as always Ellie. You rock!
Woot it's not 499 any more just confirmed my order for the new v2 Mr bevel and it was $478.17
I have been waiting for almost a year in Vermont and just got notification today, that it won't be fulfilled until mid 2022 :(
It still has a flat face... :) Just a square Dishy instead of a round Dishy ... 🤔
Is it still possible to use the dish with your own router? I assume it is standard POE standard IEEE 802.3af. If not this really really sucks.
Thing is we don't know. I want the old Dishy as I know it will work with what I have. And that I won't need anything extra, if you take a look at the new router and new cable for it, it is more of a usb c type plug and not a Cat 8 plug
I live in New Jersey. I ordered my Starlink 9 months ago... still waiting!
Was that a dead fish on the floor at 0:51????
A thick knit winter hat and a tank top... I mean -What the literal F? Did you lose a bet or something?
A couple questions, do you suppose Starlink is manufacturing the dishes? And what’s the story behind the mirror-ball “trophy” on your desk?
Starlink manufactures the dishes in WA. And here is the story behind the trophy: ruclips.net/video/hKAr9k5hMJA/видео.html
@@ellieinspace Thank you for the dish info and…WOW, I had no idea! Your dancing was superb! The only thing missing from the dance…your dragons 🐉
I ordered mine like a month ago... I guess I'm getting the improved version at some point 🤷♂️next year
One important question as RVer, how much power does it consume? The round dish option with a 100 Watt power consumption is to power hungry.
you wont be able to use it in an RV. it's locked to a geographical location in the contract, so you can't use it for mobile or even when you move house unfortunately.
@@ZenithQuinn
Actually, you can use it other places. People do it all the time camping, etc..They just can't guarantee service or speeds when you do.
@@nickdial8528 it's possible now but still annoying you have to register your new address every time you move more than 30km or whatever the max distance is.
@@ZenithQuinn
They do that because they have to guarantee a certain performance.
Although, they announced that they're working on it to where you will be able to take it with you wherever you want and have guaranteed speeds.
It comes down to having enough satellite coverage in any given area the person may go to.
I love my rectangle Starlink, so far.
What is wrong if your jaw? You look insane.
Mid to late 2021 is getting very close to the end, one can hope. One can hope
Does anyone know the diameter of the tripod that comes with the starlink kit.
😃 👍🏼 Shared on other Social Media to update others that ask about it.
What is the benefit from a round dish to a rectangle dish, does anyone know?
Lower cost of construction!
Is that bad? I watch the video only because of her beautiful eyes
They are shipping the new ones now. My unit shipped out yesterday.
Mmmm......Dishy Mic Square face ? Just saying, we need a name :)
Starlink - what a waste of money

Might consider calling your Patreon supporters patrons like Patreon does. Jack Conte (founded Patreon) had the idea to crowd fund patronage like they had in the Renaissance where Dukes and Kings and Bishops supported artists and musicians. Patreon is the company, so if you call your supporters patreons it's like you're calling them businesses not people which is weird and maybe rude? I don't know. Anyway, Patreon calls the supporters _patrons_ as in _patrons of the arts_ and you might consider it.
The square one arrived this past weekend!
I have the new one. Where do I send the picture?
Thanks for the update and great job on that logo!
I prefer I prefer Dishy McSquare face
I want the round Dishy McFlatface I got to play around with it in Louisianna working Hurricane Ida Response down in Southern Louisiana and was getting 206 down 45 up 32-40ms ping which is fantastic for here. It was blowing our Red Cross Hughes sats out of the water. My pre order which I have had since Feb 8th still says Mid to late 2021 so hoping I get a round one. I Like the router better. At least it has an eathernet port
I have been waiting since Feb 20 in Mid Missouri and received an email telling me my date has moved from later this year to Feb, 22 at the earliest. It seems awful strange to me that they can cover 47 countries but cannot get service to cover the U.S. My kids as well as I are very disappointed. I would like to know if Starlink has made arrangements with other satellite providers to delay service in the U.S.
Just got starlink and I got the new version of it. I can't figure out how to use ethernet with it tho because it only comes with 2 plugins for power... Every video I've found has the old ones and not the new router.
New dish requires Ethernet adapter!!!
@@ellieinspace Yeahhhh figured that out lmao... Thanks anyway.
We just got the new square dish on 11/18/21. Haven’t installed it yet but I am really upset to not have an Ethernet port because I need one. Will have have to order the adapter.
@EllieInSpace
How about Dishy McAlmost SquareFace
.... since it's mostly rectangular?
Elon recently announced his Starlink mobile phone which - if his characterization of that device is at all accurate - has reduced the size of a Starlink antenna dramatically and has solved the line of site problems heretofore assumed for satcomms. . . . . . . why do we need a big ol' dish?
You wear too much paint.
‘Requires digging”? OK, I dig it! Now, when do I get my dish, please?
dishy mac square hat ;)
First comment wow
got the new version.
How about Dishy McSqurePants?
Always do a reboot from within the Starlink App on the wifi and the router once a day. That will dramatically help with speeds... Also put the dish into stow mode and then hit un stow once a day and that will also force to dish to find a more preferred satellite which helps the speeds big time. I am in a waitlist area with the RV vesion and my speeds are always up near 70-100Mb download. Get 2-3 mesh units as well.... Huge difference !! AWESOME!!!
Thanks dood
Hey how you doing 😄
Rectangle McFlatface? Flatty McSquareface? Flatty McRectangleFace? Flatty McCheaperface?
Thanks for the news Ellie. Still waiting for Dishey or Squarey, whichever comes first. Did you have any idea if there would be a price reduction with Squarey?
No price reduction yet. This antenna still cost much more to make than they are charging.
Slight price reduction now only costs 478 amd some change

The Rectangle makes sense as more surface area also easier to add more sensors as most sensors are square or rectangular then a circle!!!
So places that regularly get over -30c are out? Weeee.
I hv an old one. Can u get new dish only? How much $?
