Thank you for you excellent review. Would you please do the following experiment with your display. Take your polarized sun glasses and rotate them 90 degrees. Are you able to view your display? If you are able to see it, then the manufacturer used an incorrect axis of polarization. Excellent review, as usual. I've had my Y since June 2022. I have found no need or desire for a behind the wheel display. It seems that many people who are concerned about this don't own a Tesla and are imagining that this is needed. I do not miss it at all. However, I have watched a number of videos about the various models available and I agree with you that if I wanted one, this is the model I would get. I agree with the advantages you have pointed out and I also think it looks like it matches the big screen and looks more like it belongs in a Tesla than the others. I will add that I did install a swivel bracket for the center screen so that I can tilt it toward me a bit. I really think a tilting mount should be standard in a Tesla and I think it would be something that Tesla could easily accomplish. I really don't understand why they haven't done so already.
I own the Model x and model 3. There is a center console on the model x for a reason. It's easier to see the road and important info at the same time without much glancing in that location than the center display.
Because nothing else screams quality like having a unit like "mP/h = Metres PER per hour" behind the steering wheel even though it's trying to refer to miles per hour.
Actually there is not really a standardized way of abbreviations for units in the US (think about "linear yards" LOL). In Europe there is. There is an ISO approach. Still bothers me every day in my M3P to see the speed in KM/H where it should be km/h !!
Excellent breakdown. This would be the pick for me if I really wanted that display but I've lived without it so I'll pass for now. Still it's a great option for those that want it. The sunglasses issue tho... ouch.
I stopped wearing polarized sunglasses a long time when I couldn't see screens in other cars. But honestly, sunglasses are so much better now that polarized lenses aren't even needed anymore.
Its simple for a reason. Maybe you could get another one for the back passengers. I know one that displays on the door glass, More Voice commands is the only answer, rest is Clutter..
This and the "factory look" display solve several issues, especially for us old farts who have difficulty with the horseshit GUI design in the main screen, especially in daylight. Fonts too small, and what imbecile designed a gray font on a white background? Tesla has ignored this for years. I have the in dash display which really helps. This one looks simpler to install and would do the trick for me.
I think it looks pretty good. But does it show you navigation directions when you set a destination? How about the blind spot camera when you turn left, does it show that? If not, I don't think it is useful enough for me to want it.
Yea was thinking the same about blind spot views. That would be handy. The data that are on the screen....only difference is looking down at 4 o'clock vs 6 o'clock. 🤷♀️ Or data that I don't care about when driving.
I drive my wife’s VW ID.4 from time to time, which has two displays, one behind the steering wheel. I prefer the Model 3’s cleaner appearance.
