    Five Tips for the Activities and Awards List
    1. Use active verbs and explain what you actually did (more content)
    2. Make sure your verbs are not redundant (aim for variety)
    3. Emphasize (and quantify) any tangible and measurable impact
    4. If your role is simply 'member' or 'participant', it is okay to just list the activity
    5. Don't try to do everything in 150 characters (make selective use of the additional info section)

    Thanks for the information! I took two gap years after school, (personal problems) And I am applying this year, should I list the activities during my gap years? Or just focus on my actitivies during school?

    • @Collegeessayguy
      @Collegeessayguy  2 года назад +1

      Up to you! Sometimes schools will ask for a gap year essay, which is a good place to mention what you were involved with during your time in between schools. If there is no gap year essay for your schools, then it may be a good idea to include your gap year activities elsewhere in the application. Hope this helps!

    Hi Ethan,
    I want to talk about family responsibility, particularly house chores, as one of my activities. Can you give me a tip on how I should and shouldn't describe it?
    I've been searching for videos on that, but I can't find any.

    • @Collegeessayguy

      Hi there! I have a blog post that covers this here: www.collegeessayguy.com/blog/guide-college-activities-list-common-app-example-application
      Some more advice: Depending on the nature of the work at home you were doing, it may be better fitting for the Additional Information section. Overall, it's up to you! The blog post above will help you talk about your house chores in such a way that works for the Activities List if you decide to put it there.

    thank you so much for this video! I’ve a quick question, I love editing and I even have an instagram account where I post my edits, it’s almost 1K followers there. So, could I list my editing account in my activities list??

    Hello, well my school don't have counsellor so what should I mention in that section..? Thank you🙂

    • @Collegeessayguy
      @Collegeessayguy  3 года назад +2

      I'd mention that in your Additional Info section, and I would perhaps have someone such as an administrator or lead teacher also mention that in the school/counselor report that they are completing (along with your transcripts, etc.)

    • @mamtachoubey2043
      @mamtachoubey2043 3 года назад +2

      @@Collegeessayguy so can I leave the counsellor section blank?

    • @Collegeessayguy
      @Collegeessayguy  3 года назад +2

      @@mamtachoubey2043 I'm not sure which counselor section you're referring to, but typically it'll be important for a school official in your school to send your school report, which includes your transcripts and (if available) a school profile that gives an overview of your school's academic offerings. See this Common App article for more details! appsupport.commonapp.org/applicantsupport/s/article/What-do-I-do-if-I-m-an-international-student-and-don-t-have-a-counselor

    How about you did the same thing but just in a different organization, do you still write it out? or can put both names in the same list.

    • @Collegeessayguy
      @Collegeessayguy  Год назад +1

      If you need the extra space in your list, it's OK to combine organizations as you described! Otherwise, we suggest giving each activity their own space.

    If I wrote my common app essay about playing an instrument, should I avoid putting that in the activities section as well?

    • @Collegeessayguy
      @Collegeessayguy  11 месяцев назад

      No, you should definitely include the instrument instruction in your Activities List whether or not it's mentioned in your college essays.

    Hello! I found this video very useful, thanks. Im from the UK and unfortunately, my councillor is not too familiar with this whole process. I was hoping that you would be able to glance at my activities list and give me some brief feedback. This would mean a lot. Look forward to a response!
