"Große Tiere" means not "big animals" it means important or rich people who are in positions of power or having a big reputation. Simply unattainable for normal people. Yes, this song is funny at first - but also socially critical. Don't let it get to the point where you give up on yourself and don't care about the beautiful things in life. The making-of-video is interesting, too😊

"Hohe Tiere" is what you mean.
"Große Tiere" indeed means "big animals".
I guess a small mistake sneaked in here.

    • @5un5h1ne

@@zahgurim7838 You're right. But "große Tiere" is also true. Because various (reputable?) newspapers have already used this as a synonym for "hohe Tiere"(dwds.de). Also fits better in the Rammstein lyrics.😎

5un5h1ne -- I agree, "große Tiere" here means VIPs, the literal translation "big animals" doesn't fit here, as there is no relation to animals in the song. The band members themselves became VIPs with expensive cars and pretty female personal assistants / drivers, but at a high price. They made it to the top, but became fat and ugly and lost interest in everything (sex, drugs = Schnee, cocaine) and are disgusted by themselves. They seemingly had it all and now are empty, out-powered and world-weary (the German word is "leben's'über'drüssig"), ridiculous old men with medical problems. It's kind of a severe midlife crises with depressions.

The video was not meant to be insulting.
The idea behind the video is the band members are meeting up after like 20 years of not seeing each other to play a song, it was meant as a joke.
(Notice that Flake, the band member who always runs on a treadmill in their live performances is in a wheelchair and doesn't wear a fat suit)
As far as trhe lyrics go, I'd call it an anti-depression song.
Also the translation "I am cold" doesn't do the lyrics justice. It should have been translated as "It's cold to me".

After having big success Rammstein fell in a kind of depression. A creative crisis ! No ideas, no new notes, no desire to do anything. They were so bored that they began "to count the flies on the wall".
"Null Bock" we say in Germany.
After the big success of "Mutter" it took 3 years to put out the next album ! I think they felt empty. When you are empty and bored you get silly ideas and do idiotic things. "Schnee" means also drugs like cocaine or heroin. Zappa once sang "watch out where the huskies go (where the dogs pee 😅), don't you eat that yellow snow" = Beware of drugs !
Thankgod Rammstein leave that reative crisis behind and accepted that sometimes it takes a lot of time to go on making new music.

There is a second version of the video with additional footage produced for the US market. When Till sings at the end, "mir ist kalt", you see a couple of ladies in bikinis with flamethrowers and one of them even wears Till's burning stage coat. The scenes don't really fit in the video, but they are nice to look at.😊

According to the "making of" the idea behind the lyrics is the situation when you have reached everything and lose the drive to do anything anymore. Maybe a fear of themselves when they are successful ever and ever again. (I don't think, this has happened so far, regardless of their success.)
Big animals (große Tiere) is a German expression for important or mighty persons. Even though the sentence is not finished and it is open what he (whoever "he" is) wants to do with those people. And it's not really important, because "he" does not want to take the risk. (Rammstein's songs are mostly written from a first person view and on stage Till embodies that person from the song. I guess this is one of his ways to handle his stage fright. The songs are usually not autobiographical.)
If you take the "snow" literally, it's just one of a few contradicting phrases in the lyrics. He has no drive to move from the snow and he does not want to freeze to death. Normally you have to decide one option. But "he" even doesn't have the drive to make a decision. Being cold stands for indifference and a lack of emotions. A kind of Depression from abundance. That is at least my view to the song.

@@SharamNat1 Well, it's Rammstein. They don't explain their lyrics. And it's ok for them when every listener has his own interpretation. For me "Hab keine Lust vom Schnee zu geh'n, hab keine Lust zu erfrieren" (Don't have desire(drive) to move from the snow, don't have desire(not in the mood) to freeze to death) better fits with real snow. But hey, it's ok to have different interpretations.

@@MommaTaunT -- Till Lindemann is a poet, hence most of Rammstein's lyrics are ambiguous and often not easy to interpret, not even for average native Germans. His texts are full of metaphors and outdated words or technical terms, often not known to e.g. students at the end of high school. Just one example: In "Du riechst so gut" is a line "tropft Dein Schweiß, Dein heißes Blut". Nearly all mistranslate "Schweiß" with "sweat", which is the common meaning. But the context shows that here "Schweiß" is the technical term for "blood" as used by hunters. The meaning is "drops your blood, your hot blood". 😇🤪

Did I miss something, did I misunderstand the Song?
Is it because they performed as fat People?
(Here it's meant as excess, excess of Money and the consequences that can come from it, listless because you don't enjoy anything anymore, cold because you feel dead. The sad side of fame! .....)
Can you please say again what you found offensive!
