- Behind the scenes of designing and making a bamboo gridshell structure at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), School of Architecture.
Instead of form finding through physics and simulation, our strategy took the reverse approach (top-down) by first designing the shape, then developing a structural system that would stiffen to achieve our desired performance. Our studies resulted in a final 1:20 bamboo model made from flat 10mm bamboo strips and steel wire connections.
